Longmire

The books are good, IMO. I’m up to book 3 in the series and am really enjoying it.

Does the show follow the plot of the book at all or is it completely different?

As of book #3, the plots have not been the same as those in the TV series. But the story feels familiar, and the themes and characters are very close, if that makes sense. Trying not to spoil anything. I like the series and the books just about equally.

Pssst…The shows filmed in New Mexico, but hey it’s still pretty.

John Lithgow’s performance as Churchill was not to be missed, believe me.
Aaaand I just realized I posted this in the wrong thread, ugh.

Ok good. I only have 2 episodes left to watch and I was really confused on how they were going to work Churchill into the last 2 episodes.

We will fight them in the desert, we will fight them in the bar, we will fight them in the casino, we will fight them at Walt’s ranch house. We shall never surrender.

Longmire people, a question.

The show was recommended to me by a semi-trusted source. Before I begin a watch is it Breaking Bad/Deadwood -level good, Justified/Ozark-level, or something below that? Does it fall off at all as seasons progress?

From the hip, I would say closer to the Justified/Ozark level. And no, I didn’t feel like it was falling off.

Longmire is a solid show.

The last season was easily the weakest and I hated a thing they did at the very end, but it was also a show that was cancelled and given that last season, so, all things considered it was fine.

Every other season was pretty great imo.

I would recommend it as well…though from what I recall, I think the first season was the best. On the surface, it didn’t seem like a show I would enjoy, but I’ve learned to trust Netflix’s recommendations and gave it a go. I loved the series, and it’s hard to go wrong with Katee Sackhoff.

Thanks guys. I’m wrapping up a Deadwood rewatch I promised myself I’d do IOT see the film right after experiencing all 3 seasons (which I’ve delayed, obviously). I’ll give it a try after that.

Here is what I wrote at the end of the Sixth and final season:

I would add to that (for the benefit of people considering binge watching) that Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff and Lou Diamond Phillips all do their best acting in this series, that Cassidy Freeman is ridiculously easy to look at in addition to doing a decent job with her role, and the same could be said (and was frequently by my wife) of Bailey Chase in his role as well. The stories are interesting, the acting good, the setting phenomenal and I liked that they delved more than a little into the issues surrounding the people of the area in which the show was set, especially the Native Americans.

If you’re looking for 50+ hours of quality entertainment, Longmire delivers.

I also really enjoyed it. Like most shows, takes a few episodes to really find its footing, but once it gets going it’s an incredibly satisfying watch.

In terms of quality, I would put it just below Justified. It scratches a very similar itch.

I watched this interview with Katee Sackhoff:

Where she mentioned how she had bad attitude on Longmire, got chewed for it by her co-actor, and how it was a valuable lesson.

So I started watching Longmire. I am at the end of S2 and I am really liking it. Such an oldschool feeling atmospheric kind of thing.

It blows my mind that Longmire is played by Agent Jones from Matrix. I never, ever would have recognized him. And who knew he was so damn charismatic??!!

Yeah, this is a really great show, almost from start to finish (some mildly problematic story wrap up stuff in the finale, iirc, but nothing that really marred the show overall I don’t believe). She was great in it - I had no idea she had ever been a problem on set, it’s great she’s willing to open up and admit it.

Welp, I am going to miss Walt, Vic, Henry, Cady, Zach and even Ferg. And Nighthorse and Matthias of course. I loved the ending but sure wish there were more seasons, I enjoyed it consistently from beginning to the end.

Dude, that’s Lex Luthor. I didn’t know he graduated to podcasts.

This tickles me, because her performance in Longmire made up for so much that I couldn’t stand of her in BSG. Made me think that much more of the… situation… with Starbuck in BSG was the “writers’” fault.

Ugh I’m still so mad.

So, for no particular reason, I watched the first episode of this today and found it very well crafted. It’s an old school style show IMO not the modern streaming/prestige style, but just a very solid example of a well made TV show, with a great setting.

I will probably watch some more.
