First, I hope you return! Second, I wondered the same thing as I thought it might be possible to just use the Mirkwood upgrade offer to get the expansion and my next 30 days.

After checking the Lotro forums for info, it seems that new accounts get Angmar, Moria, Mirkwood, and 30-days for $9.99, and (apparently) current accounts can be upgraded to get Siege of Mirkwood for $9.99 and 30-days (see if you interpret the info as I did).

Pax east 2010 special offer- can I keep my old account?
I’m considering coming back to lotro because of this, but will I be able to play with my old character? When I follow the links to buy the game, it says I have to create a new account, and nothing is said about existing accounts…

thanks

The link requires you to create a new account in the Turbine Store for the purchase. The store will send you an email with a key that you can use to upgrade your old account (and therefore play your old characters).

If the account isn’t active, the system generally requires that you re-activate in order to add a product key. You’ll then get any included free time at the end of the first subscription period. (For example, you resub on the $29.97 / 3 month plan. You’ll pay the $29.97 right away, but get 4 months of play time total if you add the Mirkwood Complete key that’s on sale

If you’re having any problems buying the Mirkwood Complete key through the Turbine Store, please email the Account Management department (link for the form in my signature). As long as you send the email while the $9.99 promotion is going on (send the email on or before March 28, 2010) they will be able to assist you with that pricing.

Aww, that’s too bad. I was considering giving it another shot for the $9.99 PAX deal but I’ve found that LOTRO holds my interest for right around 15 days, when the clunkiness of the UI finally gets to me and I cancel.

Oh well…they seem to have a free weekend every couple of months.

I tried to give the pax deal a shot today but sadly all I get at the end of check out is “We are unable to process your order. Please verify your information and try again.”, ah well.

I hadn’t played this since open beta in April 2007 and bit on the 9.99 deal. I have a few characters on Landovar and have been really enjoying the game for the past few days. The locations feel, I don’t know, “local” in the sense of “this is my neighborhood”. Its great, the in-world substantiality the locations seem to bring. For a second shocker, crafting actually seems to not suck and I am dabbling a bit there as well. My highest level character, a 19 Hunter, is great but I can already feel alt-itis growing.

I have strep throat right now so one good thing is a little more time to play right now.

Characters name is Tsolost, although please expect a complete fellowship newbie.

There are a couple of QT3 types on Landroval, but I don’t know if they are all in the one kin. The QT3 kin is on Nimrodel (not that it is huge by any means either).

I bought the PAX deal as well - 9.99 to get up to date on expansions + month play was a good deal.

Upon logging in my level 20 champion promptly became level 23 upon earning 1 xp, which was quite nice :-) (I had not played for over a year and apparently they reset the levelling curves)

What was not so nice was the “back rent” on my house - 900 silver!! I can buy a new house for nearly that much. Unfortunately that will pretty much clean out my bank account, blech :-( So I will be faced with farming scholar nodes for stuff to sell at the Auction House to get the bank balance back up again, which is not exactly appealing.

Any other tips for earning money? Did they introduce some easy money making paths for a ~ level 23 character?

(Characters are Talorc, Mailcon and Nilwen all around lvl 23. Yes, I am a compulsive altoholic)

Kal,

Thanks for mentioning this. I ended up reactivating my account and adding all the expansion paks for $10 after seeing this. I haven’t played since 6 months or so after it was originally released, and have been having a great time. I started a new character on the qt3 server rather than starting up again with my 30-something hobbit.

Who do I talk to about getting an invite to the qt3 kin, assuming you’ll have me?

We’d love to have you give it a shot. There is a regular Monday night group beginning about 4 pm EST to 7 pm. You would certainly be able to get an invite if you logged on during a Monday session. I think I might have the ability to invite you, but you can also look for Peixia, Russmon, and Siddhain.

You can determine who from the kin is logged on via the Social Panel. When you first click the Social icon, a panel opens with a location box on the right side. Enter “Knights of Quarter to Three” and you will get a list of everyone in the kin who is currently playing.

So I am loving the Auction house again :-)

I put up bunches of tier 1/2 scholar and jeweller crap cluttering up my inventory and I know have 1.5g from sales and another 700s on the way :-)

I also found out about repeatable quests to get sapphire shards for crafting, so now my re-subscription for a while is ensured :-)

Hey…
MMO newbie here! Trying to do a bit of research here before starting up an account. From my understanding, the US & EU servers are strictly seperate and I can only create an account/character on one or the other (depending on which version I buy), is that correct?

I was kinda hoping to have an account with a QT3 character and play with you guys on a server stateside and a seperate character to play with some german friends on a server here. Anyone know if that is possible? The only info about different servers I can find, is that I need to pay in order to transfer a character from one server to another. However thats obviously a different issue, and I can’t find any explicit infos about having multiple characters on different servers (countries??).

Any help would be appreciated!

EU and US servers are run by two different companies: Turbine (US) and Codemasters (EU).

You can’t play with Americans if you buy the Codemaster version and vice versa, they are completely seperate. So to play with both your German friends and with the QT3 group, you’d need two seperate accounts, and thus two subscriptions: one with each company.

Thanks for the info. I figured as much, but was hoping to be wrong!
Choices, choices…

Another free weekend coming up. April 29th-May 3rd says my email here.

Awesome. My sub expired last week and my credit card is maxed out.

I will be about an hour late logging on tomorrow night. I will join up with you if possible. Otherwise, I will work on some of the solo quests in my log, or perhaps the deeds I have let go for so long!

I had to rebuild my system last weekend and I wasn’t able to get lotro updated by the Monday session. Is there anything in particular I should try to catch up on before this Monday?

Any word on when the next book is coming out? My Warden is pretty much maxed out. I had fun with the Skirmishes, but as far as I could tell, none of the Skirmish stuff is better than what I’ve already got (mostly Malledhrim armor at this point), so there didn’t seem much point in continuing to run them.

I’d try to save cash for a better weapon, but Legendary Weapons on the Auction House seemed to be worse than they were before SoM came out. Not sure why but last time I was on Nimrodel, the Auction House had basically no Legendary Weapons of note, I bought a level 60 Second Age Sword pre-SoM, but since SoM came out there doesn’t seem to be anything except standard third age random vendor trash on the Auction House.

I haven’t heard a timetable on when the next book comes out but rumor has it the next landmass will be Enedwaith. That seems pretty big for a single book but we’ll probably find out for sure by the time E3 rolls around.

As far as legendary weps, I have never had to shop on the AH at all. We have seen plenty drop for our Monday Night group. I currently have all 6 of my LI slots filled and I have another level 60 3rd age waiting for me to hit level 60 before I can slot it. Now, if you mean really good LIs … the search goes on.

By the way, the remaining Monday Night group left Moria a couple weeks ago. Lothlorien is quite the change after a really long time underground. The four of us are level 58-59 so if anyone has been wanting to rejoin, that’s where we currently are.

Thanks Russ. Yeah, I meant good LIs. Prior to SoM, the best LIs were drops from raiding, but if people didn’t like the legacies they often put them on the auction house. Since I play mostly solo, I need different legacies from raiders, so I was able to pick up a good level 60 second age sword. Since SoM, I haven’t seen any second or first age weapons on the auction house (although admittedly I haven’t been logging in very often, but they used to be on the auction house quite frequently).

OK, Mr. Chick and others convinced me to give this game a try. Because I’m a bit, er, “slow” I got a lifetime deal thingy. So now I can get into it at my leisure. Any players here from Europe? I made a test character on Eldar so far.

Also, and useful articles like “Lotro for WoW players” that are up to date with all the expansions?
