Ah, thanks for the update. I checked and mine also starts with GTC…I shall endeavor to not enter that part.
The servers are up now, and I’ve just discovered that I have to pay to unlock fast travel. Bummer.

Yeah, I’m pre-patching right now. Not sure what I’ll do first tomorrow.
Dunno if I should post in here or in the F2P thread, but since tonight is Monday…
Anyone in the QT3 kinship on Nimrodel who is level 32-38ish (I’m 35) want to get together for some questing or deed grinding in the weeks to come? I’m open to other nights besides Monday (which starting next week will be a bad night for me anyway).
I’ve got Turbine Points I can spend on Evendim and/or Trollshaws, which are the next most logical places to level up. I’m also still feeling out what I can do to level without having to buy the quest packs, but it looks like that’s going to be difficult at best. Skimishes and reputation quests combined with the main Book line of quests perhaps? I was kind of hoping Turbine would toss out a 25% or so discount on quest packs to kick off the F2P thing, but no such luck so far.
So anyway, is there anyone in that level range looking to team up for some fun?
Yes, I am. I have a 38 champion currently in the Trollshaws, and I have whittled away the solo quests and am left with the fellowship quests. Plus, would love to whomp trolls for the deed. What time zone are you in?
EDIT: yeah, maybe I should have noticed your location before posting that. Central time zone or eastern?
Eastern. I am also a Champion (35) so together we would be like the Middle Earth equivalent of a chipper-shredder. I was actually thinking of spending the TP’s to buy both Evendim and Trollshaws, as those are the two locations most suited to leveling for me for the next 10 levels.
Look for me online tonight after 9pm EST. Slainte in game.
Ok, I will try hardest to be on by 9 pm EST. I think I saw you online last night… some guy was looking for someone to make leather guards for him, I pm’d him from my tailor alt but he said a Slainte already took care of it.
My understanding is that, unless you want to do a lot of grinding, you probably want to pick up both areas to get through that level range. They might have adjusted the XP to minimize this, but I have not noticed anything suggesting I am leveling faster.
I have a 35 Warden, but I live in the Central Australian time zone, so I will see you all only on weekends. Otherwise I would completely be a part of the team!
I had the opportunity to experiment with this a little last night. I did not pick up the Trollshaws quest pack yet, but spent about 90 minutes there last night with Condition’s character (38 Champ) and a 36 Burglar killing trolls and running a couple of short quests for their characters. We spent the last 45 minutes or so killing elite trolls pretty much non-stop in an area where they were heavily populated. I also turned in one quest that was a holdover from the pre-F2P days, and I had enhanced (rest) xp that was also a holdover from pre-F2P.
At the end of the 90 minute session I’d gained about 2.5 bubbles of xp. I’d be curious what Condition earned over the same time period, including his quest turn ins and deed completion xp. I bet it was closer to 3.5 or even 4 bubbles, and you could probably shave a whole bubble off mine to account for the quest turn in and the enhanced xp bonus holdover, meaning the difference between a F2P player and a VIP player for that same 90 minutes of frenzied killing could be as much as 2 whole bubbles of xp. That’s a big disadvantage to the F2P person, and would make it hard to stay in level range in a mixed group of VIP and F2P.
Granted, buying the quest packs does give the bonus of making xp (and getting rewards) off quests, so that would help mitigate the difference pretty well, but it still leaves the F2P player without the enhanced xp rest bonus, which I think makes a huge difference over the long haul.
I think it’s proved to me that the quest packs are worth it, not just for the leveling, but the money and equipment rewards from the quests as well.
I got about 4 bubbles last night, and with the addition of running about 3 more solo quests after you logged out, I dinged 39. You’re right about the value of quests. There are three Trollshaws quests now that I have done that would be great for you as a champion. That particular quest we did last night, getting the stones back from the trolls for the dwarf at Berechen’s camp, gives you extremely nice heavy gauntlets, with almost 260 armor and very nice stat bonuses. There’s another quest you can do solo, where you will find giant footprints over near Tal Bruinen, you find a brooch and return it to Thorenhad and you get a nice heavy armor breastplate with 750 armor and nice stat bonuses, and an anti-troll sword you get from doing one of the epic storyline quests (it’s against elites but you can use inspiration to solo it). Probably the value of those items in the Turbine store far exceed what you pay for the quest pack, if they were offered for sale.
(actually I haven’t really browsed the store yet, can you buy gear there?)
I’m not finding any real info on the run for tonight. What I have seen just says the captain quest involves blowing a horn and fighting waves of orcs in the instance. Does anyone know anything about the bosses we will run across and strategies for fighting them?

Just noticed this game went to die in Daybreak’s stable of dying MMOs too. Not sure when this happened.
