True, but the counterpoint for the money people is that the Hobbit movies made a healthy profit. It doesn’t really matter what the critical consensus is if they make money.
I liked both, as did enough it seems. Internet logic.
Andor stares grimly.
There are actually too many to choose from. The best one I found simply stays on Bilbo the whole time and makes the Battle of Five Armies into a short montage after Bilbo gets knocked unconsciousness.
Does it also happen to be animated?
Following WB’s announcement, the fan film was taken offline for many hours and YouTube put up a notice saying Warner Bros. had filed a copyright claim against the fan movie and blocked it. LOTR fans reacted quite negatively to the takedown online and, early Friday, the film was restored to YouTube.
A studio source says the takedown request was done in error.
This is the same fan film I posted earlier.
I suppose it doesn’t matter, but I’m inclined to assume the takedown was not in fact done in error but that’s just cover because they didn’t want the backlash.
“Enthusiasm for The Lord of the Rings shows no sign of abating … I can’t tell you any more than that. I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him.”
“When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So, they better be quick.”
I wonder if they’ll just pull him into scan him and pay for rights to use his likeness, then CGI him into a movie. If Serkis can play gollum, why not have someone “puppet” Gandolf?
Eh, my enthusiasm is dead for any more Peter Jackson LotR. It died when the Hobbit became a 3 movie project and hasn’t returned.
I will watch the Rings of Power and enjoyed the first season, but can’t watch any more Peter Jackson.
I love Ian McKellen and his portrayal of Gandalf, but he’ll be in his late 80s if this thing comes to fruition. He was 71 when he worked on The Hobbit, and I was already feeling his weariness in that performance. I haven’t seen him in anything since 2014 though.
And I would really hate to see them just CGI him into the movie.
He’s been doing TV among other things.
Yeah, he’s been actively working. He did just fall off a stage though, so I think he’s still recovering from that accident, but he’s mobile. He’s not dancing around and I wouldn’t expect another run at Gandalf would include much of Ian McKellen doing a bunch of fancy sword fighting or acrobatics unless they use a stunt/CG double.
I went to watch him and Roger Allam in “Frank and Percy” last year. They were working the cogs out before it’s West End run. He still looked pretty spritely then doing a full theatre week including matinees. One delightful moment as he paused briefly to add some gravitas to a line and the prompt interrupted him from offstage. Testily he proclaimed “I know the line, damn it!”…
If McKellen participates I only expect “old Gandalf” bookends, with the main story being told in flashbacks.
Yeah, even Serkis is too old for that movie.
