That’s the right reason, for sure.
Like real boats it’s a huge money sink. But unlike real boats it doesn’t sink. I have an opinion on the investment here, but I think it’s better to use a lower level Estoque and either a Tragon or Eiburn’s Wound and can get the same amount of resources.
It’s the midlife honing crisis purchase.
Ok, how do you get gold? I have these crafting quests for my stronghold that require small amounts of gold. I have zero gold. I have never seen gold. I am level 38 at the moment.
It’s not common at the start, but one of the main sources of gold income is from some rapport NPCs that will give you 100s of gold at certain affection ranks - Thirain in Luterra is a good choice (‘friendly’ gives 500g). Don’t blow all your rapport items though until you have a clear idea of what you want to do with all that, though.
Outside of that, I was selling stuff on the auction house (adventurer’s journal items mainly). That might get you enough for what you need but of course you will need to grind stuff to sell (and at L38 that might not be so efficient).
Exercise your trade skills as you run around doing your quests. You will accumulate timber and various flowers, etc as you go. These will be useful to you as crafting material, and can also be sold for gold at the auction house. And all that exercising of trade skills will level them up so you can gather more types of stuff and do it more efficiently.
I’m saying this in a totally non-snarky way… There is a loading screen that says something like “there’s a plenty of way to get gold “ and shows examples.
Some of the ways are through special gold portal in a chaos dungeon, then there is running abyss dungeons, and raids, and as was mentioned above, rapport.
You shouldn’t really worry about it until you hit 50. As Far as stronghold research goes, a number of them only require pirate coins you could research some of those items if you want to be researching things.
The hints on the loading screens? Those go right by me, as I pretty much have self-programmed to ignore them. Raids are not particularly useful anyhow, as I don’t plan to group or play with a guild or anything, as the game is more of a side thing for me. But the rapport stuff mentioned upthread is useful.
Once in a while and adventure island awards gold. You can see them by clicking the calendar on the top bar and looking at the adventure islands for the day. Today there is a gold island so if you really need gold you should go do it
