That actually makes a ton of sense.

It does? Dude (no offense to the original poster) it’s hardly english. Can you translate it for me since I don’t understand?
How does Jack know that Ben made Kate and Sawyer “come together” as it was so eloquently posted?
Because Ben segregated Jack from those two, so they had no choice but to rely on each other and become close. It’s human nature. Similar, I imagine, to the relationships the people going through the Nine show are.
Jack is no fool, and he’s sticking it to BOTH Benry and Juliet with his little power play. They bring Kate to see him, and she tells Jack that she and Sawyer are being kept outside, in cages and being made to work, breaking rocks and doing “something big” for the Others. Jack knows this is going to bring Sawyer and Kate closer together, and he knows that as selfish as Sawyer is, he’ll still protect Kate as best he can in that situation because he knows Sawyer has feelings for her.
So armed with this info Jack knows that Benry and Juliet are using Sawyer and Kate to get to him. This is confirmed when the “speaker voice” tells him to try the door, and he conveniently discovers the control room and the monitors tuned in to Kate and Sawyer, who were told previously that they had only one night left together and then left alone. It’s an obvious ploy to anger Jack and convince him to side with the Others out of hate and/or jealousy.
But Jack’s feelings for Kate were already waning. The flaw in Benry’s plan is that Jack is more interested in protecting Kate and freeing her AND Sawyer than he is jealous of anything between them. The flaw in Jack’s plan is that he doesn’t know the island they are on isn’t “the island” anymore.

Nicely said. Hmph. Good theory. Although I think it is a little too “high level” for Lost, would you not say?
It is also unfortunate that Jack doesn’t know they are not on the island. I feel for the guy – after the huge risk he has taken it is all for nothing.
You’re assuming Benry was telling the truth about it being a different island, instead of just feeding Sawyer another con.
All Kate has to do is quit crying like a little girl and say, “Jack, we’re on another island. Get us a boat,” and then Jack says, “Hey, Beardo: give her a fucking boat.”
But noooooo.
Fuck Lost. Lost sucks.

Seems like they showed the other island in the distance, didn’t they? Or are you saying “at this moment” we don’t know which island they are on?
H.
Well, Sawyer did see a whole other island. Not to mention the fact they used a sub to travel around the islands (supposedly). I don’t see how one can get around faking another island, unless it’s an optical illusion created by their bubble reality or whatever the hell else keeps people from going in circles.
The eyepatch guy from the other station reminds me of Robert Wagner in the Austin Powers movies.

They showed Sawyer another Island and told him it was the “losties” Island. Do we really belive him? If they had put them on a boat or in a sub. even with a hood on they would have known it.
So true. The sad fact is that some of the stuff that fans have come up with so far makes more sense and is often higher quality than the stuff the actual writers are churning out. If this show makes it to Season 4 they should consider chucking most of the writers and bringing in the most coherent and talented fans to continue onwards. (I’m only half joking…)
Remember, Jack, Kate and Sawyer were drugged on the dock and THEN transported to the place they are now. They all woke up in their current cages. Transport by sub or boat would have been easy enough to accomplish while they were knocked out.
Makes me wonder too about Michael and Walt. If there was a sub waiting out in the bay beyond the dock, couldn’t it have recaptured Michael and Walt or just destroyed their little boat on it’s way back to pickup Benry and the sleeping LOSTies?
Quite frankly, the Smoke Monster has really sapped my faith in the writers ability to distinguish science-fiction from fantasy. If there is a “rational” explanation, as they claim, for the goings-on on the island, then it’s pretty clear that their definition of rational differs wildly from my own.
So I wouldn’t put it past them that the island they showed Sawyer is some weird optical illusion caused by the electromagnetic field or some such hogwash. Or maybe the island is really a Truman Show esque snowglobe, and they can project whatever image they want on the inside of the globe. Or something else equally crazy.
Don’t get me wrong - I’m enjoying Lost just fine. But I’m not holding it to a very high standard of speculative-fiction storytelling.
I’m losing faith and am starting to get a bad X-Files feeling now. I can still enjoy it in a turn-brain-off kind of way, and will no doubt keep watching it even if/when the shark does definitively jump, but this season so far? Meh.
Seems like the writers have gotten so far away from all the stuff that made it good in the first place, not the least of which is the original freakin’ cast. Seriously, WTF are they doing introducing those two pathetic redshirts into the mix now, when fuckin’ Hurley can’t even buy a line of dialog right now? Why couldn’t it have been Hurley and the Hobbit along for those scenes? I resent every line those two get because I did not need more cast members.
Further, while it’s possible that The Others might actually have an interesting story, the writers sure aren’t making a good case for it right now. I don’t need any more lines of dialog sort of hinting at their own infighting or whatever because the writers have yet to provide ONE line of dialog to clue us in as to why we should care. Are they good Others? Bad Others? Should we root for any of them? Showing scenes of them bickering or whatever are just utterly meaningless, and the more weeks that drag by spending camera time on characters whose motivations are unknown is just…show suicide to me. We knew the motivations of the original cast: Get the fuck off the island and find out what is going on. But all this BS this season is just not interesting.
Yeah but then all the people have been whining how come we never see anyone else. If you want to meet one of the other survivors, you’re gonna have to take away from someone else in one way or another.

Exactly. Jack’s not thrilled about it, but he also realizes that he’s being manipulated, especially (duh) when Ben walks in behind him while he’s watching the screens.
It’s also interesting that Jack is asking Kate to run, and doesn’t mention Sawyer at all - he may just not care if Sawyer escapes or not, but he does care about Kate and sees this as his chance to get her free.
Dude, waiting until Feb 7th until the next episode? That’s…harsh.
Oh, for Christ’s sake.
At least they could have made the opening six episodes into a mini-season like they promised…

I know… it is interesting how he repeatedly tells Kate to run but doesn’t say sweet-fuck-all about Sawyer. Does Jack really want to save only Kate to have for himself? Or does he want to save Sawyer too? My guess is he wants to save both of them since he seems to be a fairly altruistic leader-type.
Once again we are left with more questions than answers.

From NYTimes:
"ABC hopes to keep “Lost” fans enticed over the next three months with what it is calling “ ‘Lost’ Nuggets”: 30-second promotional clips of scenes from episodes not yet broadcast that will hint at what will become of the island castaways when the show returns.
The “Nuggets” will be shown each week during “Day Break,” although ABC is not saying at what time, meaning “Lost” fans will have to watch the new show or fast-forward through their digitally recorded files to unearth the clues."
