Wow, so that was 6 episodes? Felt like about an episode and a half of actual content and a whole lot of time wasting. I’m not sure how much of my interest in this show will remain come February.

Thats been my problem with Lost lately, if i miss an episode, who cares? Not much happened anyway.

Link forbidden. How are the ratings?
I think Jack made that decision becuase he felt compassion for Sawyer and Kate, plus he knew he could help them escape + get Ben under his knife. Will it cause his demise? Maybe. Perhaps he was being noble. Also, if Juliette was sincere about some of the Others wanting a change (if that wasn’t some kind of setup), she could bail him out…
Unless you can out and out prove to me the creators/writers state, “We don’t know where we’re going with this show” then you’re never going to convince me that they don’t know what they’re doing - unless of course the show ends and everything is screwed up, to which case I’ll admit I was wrong. I think they know generally where they are going, it’s the exact specifics and the ability to fit it into five seasons or so (supposedly) that’s causing issues.

I have to agree with Alan. The show has been utterly fantastic. Even with some slow spots, I think the creators know what they’re doing.
If you cut and paste the URL into a web browser address line (so there is no referrer in the header), it’ll show you the picture.
In any case, ratings are down. They look like the season 1 ratings (but even lower for the more recent episodes) which were much lower than season 2’s start. Assuming this picture is correct, of course, I have no idea where it came from…

Someone needs to do a YouTube video: if the writers of Lost had done Gilligans Island.
Sorry - just got off the plane this afternoon after about 20 hours traveling, then watching Lost on Tivo tonight.

The were very close (all 3 seasons)… but the end of season 2 took a nose dive… and season 3 was the lowest of all 3 seasons…

I seriously hate this show for loving badass Mr. Eko and then killing him off. The fact that the writers couldn’t do something in time for the actors contract expiration, making them contrive a stupid way for him to exit, seriously pisses me off. I only begrudgingly watched the last episode of the “season” with my wife, as there was nothing else left on our TiVo to watch that night.

Given all the nonsense they’ve added to the mix, the only “rational” explanation that could possibly tie everything together would be ‘it’s all a dream/virtual reality’ or some similar bs. (Although that still wouldn’t explain the unlikely pre-crash connections between the passengers. Unless their entire lives were dreams/VR! Yeah, that works.)
There’s no way they could come up with an explanation that both coherently explains everything and is satisfying. I predict at the end of this show’s run (which hopefully declining ratings will make happen sooner rather than later), when they have their big reveal, my reaction - shared by many - will be “Ugh, how amazingly fucking stupid. I wish I never started watching this show.”

Why can’t they use the principles of electromagnetism as a cough lame cough mechanism for explaining the movement of the Black Smoke? A person behind a curtain cough Wizard of Oz cough could be controlling the Black Smoke using EM pulses and magnetic fields. Totally feasible if they choose to try to explain it in a realistic fashion. Not saying I would buy it but I would put it past those chode farmers Hollywood calls TV writers.

Yeah, but that would - at best - only explain the smoke monster. It wouldn’t explain the other 385729837259823759823798 mysteries they’ve introduced (for example, just to name a small few: Locke’s healing, all the highly improbable pre-crash interconnections between passengers, Hurley’s magic numbers + their connection to the island, various characters seeing ghosts of dead relatives, why there’s a polar bear on a tropical island, how they survived the crash in the first place, why no one from the outside world can find the island, etc, etc, etc).
Why wait until the end of the show? If you’re like me, you get to feel this way every week!

Tom, you’re still watching? Man… I thought we lost (pun intended) you back in season 2.
I still like this show, but I’d have a lot more confidence in a satisfying resolution, if the plot did revolve around the driving abilities of the actors…
Yeah, I’ve been with it all along. I’m still watching it for the train wreck factor. As soon as I think they can’t get any worse, they do. The acting, the writing, and the story simply refuse to bottom out.
I like the actress who plays Juliet (she was awesome as a murderous pedophile in Running Scared!). And the smoke monster was really cool.
Okay, I lied about that second thing.
But I do enjoy watching it spiral down and then kvetching with other people about how bad it’s gotten. Seems like most of you in this thread are still pretty forgiving, so I haven’t been popping in much.

No it has gotten bad. Captain Mel was this seasons only highlight.
I feel like such a pleb. I watch this stuff and just enjoy the ride. Apart from the polar bear rescue, every episode of season 3 has had me on the edge of my seat and thoroughly enjoying it. I mean, some bits are lame - sure - but it’s still entertaining.
Then again, I’m in the UK, and the best we have to offer is Torchwood and the new Robin Hood. Lost is akin to the serialisation of the Godfather movies in comparison to them. Even your worst TV that makes it over here is a gazillion times better than our best (except for Joey).

Juliet was really hot as a semi naked lesbo on ER.
You guys got a new Robin Hood show? Tell you what, we’ll trade you “Dancing with the Stars” and toss in “Men in Trees” for it. Hell, take “Kidnapped” too. The BBC’s not all bad, the new Doctor Who is pretty damn cool.
