I thnk what would happen is that the air in the station would start going out the porthole, because the water pressure at the level of the dive pool would be greater than the pressure at the porthole, and the water level in the station would rise until it reached the level of the porthole and stop there.

Based on what the producers have hinted the show will continue in this fashion.
First 3 seasons = flash backs.
Last 3 seasons = flash forwards.

Also the producers confirmed last night (in “LOST Answers” - the TV show that aired prior to the finale) that Desmond was responsible for causing flight 815 to crash and noone else. It was Desmond’s mistake of not resetting the computer which led to the plane crash. I believe this is the first time the Producers have ever confirmed this.
I hope so. They ran out of interesting flashback material just a few episodes into season two.

I can’t imagine they’ll be doing regular flash-forwards. I think the most likely scenario is that this is a one-time stunt meant to make the statement, “yes, there is a plan.”
Now that we’re all excited about the show again, we just have to wait until January for more episodes. :P

FWIW there is a difference between suspense and surprise. Having flash forwards takes away the possibility of someone being dead by surprise (e.g. now we know that Jack and Kate are NOT dying on the island). And yeah, that does in a sense take away the “omg are they going to die” suspense - but that’s a pretty shallow form of suspense.
There’s still a lot of suspense in the sense of “They’re going to get off the island but what is it going to cost them? What’s going to happen to Jack to turn him into the wreckage that we saw?”
Put it this way - no one seriously goes into Lord of the Rings thinking Frodo will fail to drop the ring into the fire of Mount Doom. The question is how shitty is the path to that point?

It would seem you are probably right. During the “Lost Answers” episode prior to the finale the producers stated that the characters “exist in a space-time continuum” (paraphrased) which gives credence to your point.
I hope this isn’t the case. But it looks like it is.

“Lost Answers” – aired prior to the season finale – they hinted at it.
You know, the more I think about it the more it makes sense that Walt was in the casket. If Michael died somehow, he would have no family or friends. Plus, the coffin did look a little small to me.
Also, I don’t recall the producers saying anything about a “space-time continuum”. Not to say that the flash-forward couldn’t be some sort of alternate-timeline thing, which would kinda-sorta fit into Desmond’s reliving his past experiences. It might also explain stuff like Jacob - maybe he’s a character from one timeline trying to communicate with another timeline.
Or maybe I’ve read too much Philip K. Dick.
Based on a couple other forums I’ve looked at, Jin and Sun were sitting on the plane behind Jack at the beginning of the episode. I missed it myself, did anyone here see that?
Nope, you’re right, I’m not sure if that was Sun, but it was definitely Jin in the seat next to the girl. I rewatched the scene and if it wasn’t supposed to be him, it’s a damn good lookalike. That was a really crazy episode though, and call me stupid but I never figure out things like other people do until the very end. The flash-forward, I had no idea until Jack met up with Kate at the end. But at least this makes watching stuff a lot more interesting.

I had a few people over for the finale last night, and we re-watched the first 10 minutes after the show ended. While we all initially assumed it was Sun and Jin, upon second look the group consensus was that it wasn’t them. Even now, I’m not sure – maybe it was them, or maybe it was deliberately misleading. It was really hard to tell.

I don’t think so. Here are the two passenger shots from the plane:
Shot 1
Shot 2
While the man behind Jack does look like a little like Jin from the first couple of views we get, I think the second image shows it’s not him. The woman isn’t Sun, either, but that alone doesn’t mean anything.
Yeah, definitely not Sun, so most likely not Jin. Again, I hadn’t noticed either way myself, so thanks for the screencaps.
I can say 100% sure it’s not Jin, he doesn’t have the same forehead or eye spacing. He looks more like Three Hummers from 24 than Jin.
Looking at shot 1, I gotta ask, WTF is Jack doing riding on an Oceanic flight? I think after the big mess of being on that island, I’d be done with Oceanic for good. Unless, of course, the flight’s free…
They got the “Gold Pass” from Oceanic. He mentioned it to Kate. Sounds like free flights to anywhere, whenever they want it.

Also, he wants the planes to crash.
Yea, he said he flies every friday. Gets to where hes going has a drink or 2 and then comes back.
That was my impression. He had been told several times, “You’re gonna die, Chahlie, it’s your destiny” and he finally accepted there was no avoiding it, and he decided it had to happen to get Claire off the island. Noble.
