I do not mean to alarm, but Lost is awesome again!
My biggest concern going into this episode is that based on what we saw of Future Jack, it looked like Jack fucked up something awful. The problem with going into the future is that it can make us hate a character for what they became before we see how they got there.
This episode definitely tempered that a bit, but I’ve still got my concerns. I really hope they’ve got their plot outline and all of their reveals prioritized.

Well there are only 17 episodes left, so the hope is that with a definitive end to the series the writers will think about what they’re doing, so we don’t end up with more alias-style mishmash of seamingly meaningful but really disjointed episodes. Rimbaldi my foot.
Lost always had the wrong idea trying to establish and elaborate on a serialized storyline across multiple seasons without writing it all down in the beginning. No show but babylon5 has really been successful at a multi-season story arc anyway. They’re better off maintaining a thread across seasons for continuity with one major story arc per year.
I’m not going to spoil it for anybody, but that was a pretty major reveal when we caught a glimpse of Jacob in the premiere. I can’t wait for that explanation, if it ever comes.
17 episodes? I thought Lost was going to run for six seasons.
There’s 3 16-episode seasons left. 48 eps total.
Having the shortened seasons is clearly working for the show. You can feel that it has direction again.
I’m bummed they won’t get to finish the season in a timely manner.

As far as you scuba people, they never said how deep the looking glass was.
They kinda painted themselves into a corner there eh?
With what Hurly said to Jack.
I’m thinking flash-forwards are the thing now instead of flashbacks.

My prediction: they will do flash-forwards for a while, then one episode will make you think it’s a flash-forward but OHMYGOD IT’S THE PAST AND SOMEBODY KNOWS MORE THAN WE BELIEVED HOLY SHIT.
And I’ll love it.
What if the show jumped into the future full-time, with the Losties trying to get back onto the Island and save the world, and then flashed back to the events on the Island to show how they got to that point?

I fell asleep and missed the last ten minutes. Anyone want to PM with a short synopsis?
What’s the difference between that and flash-forwarding?
The whole episode last night was one big “Wait, what?!” moment, but in a good way.
It certainly looks like we’re switching to a flash-forward motiff replacing the flash backs, which is fine if they can keep it interesting. This time around with Hurley though it was hard to tell what was real and what was him freaking out, so you can’t really take anything that happened in his flash forwards as gospel truth.
It’s back, and it’s good, and that’s all I care about.

Hm, so with Charlie’s appearance at the end… that has a LOT of parallels with all the other people sightings on the island itself, certainly lending credence to the island “wanting them back” and somehow it’s power either having leaked out or the Oceanic Six have a piece of it or something.
If there was a reveal in Jacob’s identity with the eye thing I missed it… maybe it was Locke? Jacob = time-trapped version of Locke?
Also, anyone watched the “mobisodes”? Anything worthwhile there?

The silhouette in the chair seems to have hair, FWIW.
H.
It’s not a spoiler if it was in the episode we just watched!
The silhouette of Jacob in the chair looks a lot like Jack’s dad.

Agreed. You got it right. I just wonder if the eyeball was Locke. That would seem to make sense. More and more ghosts everywhere you look in this story.
Also, even though Ben said “the magic box” wasn’t real, the cabin appears to be a pretty magical box.

So glad to have the show back! Nice episode. I wonder if they’re going to do the flash-forwards for the whole season, but going backwards? This flash-forward was obviously before the finale’s time period, so continuing this trend the next ep would have the flash-forward of a time before Hurley’s freak-out. Interesting if they try that.
I just wonder if the eyeball was Locke. That would seem to make sense.
Yeah, that’s what I presumed it was, since Locke found him moments later. Just Locke and Jacob chillin’ when Hurley dropped in.

Nothing of major importance at all, some kind of filled in parts of episodes that we knew about but just had not seen. One episode showed Ben suggesting to Jack that if they finally got off the island, they might find themselves wanting to come back.

I thought the highlight of the episode was when Jack had Locke under the gun…and pulled the trigger.
For as many times as you heard Jack say: “I’ll kill him/you/etc” up to that moment, you weren’t willing to believe it – because it’s Jack, the Doctor, the Leader. At the point when Locke says “Well, it’s not loaded,” you can hear the revelation in his voice as well: Jack has turned a corner at that moment.
