I think you have to reconsider Michael as a candidate for the coffin then. If he’s the spy for Ben, he would presumably have a false identity (a false identity that Jack would come to learn on the boat).
He is from NY as is the guy mentioned in the obituary. He’s neither a friend nor family member to Jack.
Kate wasn’t interested in going to his funeral either. Considering Michael betrayed her and Jack to the Others, that makes sense as well. Hmmm…
I was wondering last night how possible it would be for the show’s creators to fake us out by putting Harold Perrineau’s name in the credits of every episode this season but then never actually have him back on the show. That would rule.
Best part of last night’s episode was Juliette in a bikini.

It was definitely a highlight.
Really? Does she have any expression besides smirk
Worst episode of the season.
If this is the worst episode this season I’ll be damn happy.
Agreed. I mean, I do think it was the worst episode of the season–but I still liked it better than most of season 2 and 3. I’m trying to think of another show that got a creative jumpstart a few seasons in, rather than just continuing a slow decline, and I can’t think of one. (The Wire doesn’t count cuz it started awesome and then just kept getting more awesome.)
My wife doesn’t think the authors are so navel-gazing as I do, so she doesn’t agree: I believe that the opening scene with Harper mentioning how Juliette isn’t a “celebrity” and whatnot was clear that the authors, for just a second, wanted us to believe that this was a flash forward, and Juliette was one of the Six. Of course, then she’s pulled out by a younger, cleaner Tom and it’s obvious. But for 2 minutes there, the writers were all like: “DUDE, FISHED YOU.”
Younger, aliver Tom. But yeah, it seemed like a pretty obvious fake-out to me too.
Totally. I was completely fooled.
Ooh. Good call. That show started out so bad I gave up. I only gave it a second chance because my brother-in-law kept telling me how good it had become.
Yeah their intent was clearly to trick us into thinking she was somehow one of the Oceanic 6 for a bit there. However, while I don’t remember the exact exchange, I remember cluing into the trick before seeing Tom, though. Harper mentioned that she wasn’t a celebrity and then either said or implied that she was chosen for what she was chosen to go to the island for and at that point I realized it was a tricksey flashback.
Seems like the last 2 of the 6 are Jin/Sun. At this point I care less about the last two of the six and more about finding out what happens re: Desmond and Penny. Now that they’ve talked, does Desmond get off the island with the 6 but in secret because he wasn’t on 815? Is he still on the island? What is Penny doing if so? Has she talked to the 815 people? etc.
Isn’t there only one of the six left to reveal? Jack, Kate, Hugo, Sayid, Aaron…
So does that mean the Korean couple can’t both make it off? Or does Aaron not count?
I don’t think Aaron counts (though I am obviously just speculating) because he was only on the Oceanic flight as a fetus and as far as we know, the world may think he’s Kate’s biological kid and she got knocked up with him on the island.
That’s a very good point. I’d been counting him as one of the six, forgetting that the world knows them as the “Oceanic Six” as well. I think you’re right.
I really feel like we may have crossed over the show’s hump with the time travel and constant revelations.
The big question for me is “Were the people on 815 manipulated into being on the flight for specific reasons, or were their pasts manipulated because people knew they were going to be on that flight.”
I’m also wondering if Hurley doesn’t have the ability to talk to people out of time, although I’m not sure how that works for Charley. Certainly the numbers were “given” to him somehow, and the Lottery was manipulated so he’d win.
To be fair, Lost didn’t start bad and then get better like DS9 did. Lost started well, then got awful and is, per reports, now getting better. I’m not sure I can think of any other shows with that kind of a roller coaster ride through quality levels.
Lost started out awesome, became “just ok” (which made still made it better than 98% of the other TV out there), and is now awesome again.
BSG may be following that path. Started incredibly, fell sharply. Now, it may be getting interesting again, but it’s too soon to tell.
