He was wearing his seatbelt. They save lives you know.

By the way the scene was shot I’m going to go ahead and predict that Danielle isn’t dead.

Could be wrong, but that’s my “gut” feeling on this one.

Yep, and she’s got her rifle. I predict a daring raid.

Did anyone else find it amusing that she had the rifle on her back during the meeting in the barracks? Apparently she never goes anywhere without it, even dinner.

Really? What gives you that sense?

Remember - the only thing we know for sure about Ben is that he lies. A lot.

Man, it sucks that Danielle died. She was a pretty cool character, despite the fact that, story wise, she’d become a stale 3-season old plot device.

Also, I can’t help but feel that the “sickness” and “watch your friends closely” mysteries are going to die right along with her. It’d be a miracle if they managed to tie up every little ominous hint they’ve dropped over the seasons. Doubly so for the ones revolving around dead characters that nobody really cared about.

I think, looking at all the pieces, it’s more likely ben is lying.

either widmore planted the airplane, then gave the boat captain a fake black box, or he actually did retrieve that black box from the wreckage and found out it was a fake. there’s no reason for the boat captain to have a black box, if widmore always knew it to be fake.

sure ben’s team has the details on how it was done, because they’re the ones who did it. They want to ensure no one looks for the island. being consistent with the character, we know ben/mr. friendly (tom) never tells the truth, they might tell a half truth, but then there’s a lie right after, every time. It’s true a fake plane was found, but the details are wrong, i.e. “stop them from getting to the poison gas, because they want to kill everyone / wait, they’re disabling it apparently”.

widmore’s team apparently didn’t even start to come together until after the fake plane was found, it doesn’t make sense.

That could all be wrong, this is lost, they’ll go in any direction, but I think it was ben’s side that faked it, and I think the time loop theory looks a lot stronger now.

Only Michael would wear a seatbelt on a suicide run.

I always thought being a gay guy meant you don’t want to have sex with women, not that you can’t be friends with them or get upset when they’re murdered. I was pretty impressed with how they handled this – they set it up and then carried it through as part of making him a well-rounded character instead of a stereotype. I remember a lot of people trying to figure out the “You’re not my type line” to Kate (since, this being “Lost”, there’s going to be a ton of speculation over ANY line) and guessing that he was an alien or something. And here they just revealed it and went on with him acting like normal, telling Michael to “man up” and such.

As for Michael’s recovering from the accident: Tom knew that Michael was going to try to shoot himself in the head again, and he asked “Did the gun jam, or did the bullet bounce off your skull?” The Island is trying to keep Michael alive, for whatever reason, so it’s entirely likely his injuries from the wreck weren’t that severe. His heart monitor read “Alarms will be turned on when patient is admitted” suggesting that he hadn’t been in the hospital that long, and he was already conscious and speaking normally.

(But I still wish they’d stayed true to the character, and the first thing he said on regaining consciousness was “WAAAAALLLLTTT!!!”)

The guy who was distraught over trixie’s death and almost beat Sawyer to death was another Other, not Tom.

I’m a little surprised that Aaron counts now officially as an Oceanic Six.

In the “previously on Lost” segment they put in a particularly long and overdramtic “WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALT!” and I was wondering if they did that on purpose as a sly wink & nod type of thing.

Yeah, me too. While I really liked this half-season so far, there were a number of issues with it where I think the writing or editing fell apart a bit and a few things were far less clear than they could have been, and I’m not talking about island mysteries or things they want to obviously keep us guessing about, but rather just things where in retrospect they seemingly meant for us to understand something but they didn’t quite convey it clearly. I thought this last episode was pretty good but I’m not too fond of the whole “island stopping Michael from killing himself” stuff, that’s veering way too far off into lala land, even for a show with this premise.

Depending on what that actually means…

One thing I loved about last night’s episode is that they haven’t tried to redeem the character. Michael’s greatest moment may have been building the raft…

Lost must be a great show for an actor to be on. No matter if you disappear/die/leave the show, there is a really great chance for multiple cameos.

I agree, Girls’ Coke. The island now seems to have motivations and long-range magical powers. It grates for me, too, and I’m hoping the eventual explanation won’t be too out there.

Did anyone else find the Michael part of the story kind of tedious? Obviously he isn’t going to die, or blow up the boat, or refuse to take the mission in the first place. I don’t like to watch soul-searching if I already know what the character is going to decide.

Not only does it have motivations and long-range magical powers (well, seemingly), but now we have to guess how the powers are supposed to work and why they are inconsistent – ie, if Ben really does “protect the island” and Widmore is a “threat”, why can the island not just kill Widmore as easily as it stops Michael from being killed, and so on. Hopefully the island acting as an entity is some sort of simplification for some big misdirected reveal, otherwise the whole idea is stupid.

There is something going on with the Island, although I don’t trust what the characters say about it when speaking in anything other than “secret revealed” mode. I, too, wondered if the gun wasn’t switched when during Tom and Michael’s struggle, and the whole, “Island won’t let you” was a ploy to get Michael working for them again.

The ambiguity and misdirection game is getting a little old for me, actually. I suppose they have to keep us guessing a bit but damn.

I hope Rousseau’s “death” is merely more misdirection but as someone above says, she really hasn’t had much to do since Season One. I wonder if all the talk of her crew getting “sick” wasn’t really time displacement as well. That would explain them going mad and getting violent, much like what happened to Desmond, the radio operator, etc.

I was also hoping for a little more meat on the bones of the time dilation on the island. If time is constant between the island and the world (two months on the island is two months for the rest of the world), they will have account for the rapid aging of Walt and Aaron via some other method. Other than having them stand at darkened windows, I guess.

I wasn’t very happy about this being the cliff hanger. At least they are only having a single, fairly short break, as opposed to what occurred in Season 2. I am only mildly dissatisfied with a few small details though. Perhaps the pace and tenor will pick up with the last 5 episodes left in this season.

FYI, you can’t just walk into a pawn shop and walk out with a gun without a background check and a waiting period… Especially in NYC.

sorry, had to nitpick.

You can if the island wants you to!
