How pedestrian.

I couldn’t stop laughing when they came to Ben about the phone call and he pulls a shotgun out of the piano bench.

You know, I thought the exact same thing.

The other good one was when he came back out of the secret room and squeezes past Sawyer. “Excuse me, James.” He’s like, WTF?

Ben is now my favorite character.

Aside: Anyone notice that it seems like every episode has at least one or two gratuitous “Kate is hawt” shot?

Nope. It made me suspect that Widmore is kept alive by the island (as Friendly explained to Michael), but cursed to be unable to return to it.

Many have suggested that Richard Alpert, the Other/former Hostile that help Ben against the Dharma group, has lived a very long time due to lack of apparent aging between flashbacks and present day and Ben’s line to him “You do remember birthdays don’t you?” Maybe he, and the rest of the Hostiles were Black Rock crew?

Throw in Orchid station time travel stuff. The polar bear in Tunisia excavation. And my impression that Ben looked younger, especially his hair, when he was off island. He’s wearing a parka with Halliwax’s name on it (from the Orchid film) and doesn’t know what year it is. All this and repeated mentions of “the rules” suggest that Ben and Linus are engaged in some long-term competition. Presumably, Widmore wants to get to the island, and Ben doesn’t want that to happen. It’s getting more interesting to me.

It was painful to have to wait until today to watch this with the GF, but totally worth it.

I’m really starting to like Ben.

So, did Ben somehow setup the killing of Sayid’s wife to manipulate him?

Otherwise, I just don’t get why Widmore would kill his wife…

I had the same thought, but the way Ben got to know about it - watching the news in the hotel - and the way he seemed to react - being suprised to even see Sayid - makes you think he’s not behind it and only used the incident to his advantage.

Gratuitous is not the right word for this sentence.

Exactly. In fact, I wouldn’t hesitate to say that there aren’t enough such instances.

It was very cute, but totally gratuitous. I was wondering what she was doing down there on the beach, and the answer was “looking good”. I’m not complaining, but in a show where you feel like you constantly need to bevon your toes it was weird that suddenly we were getting a pin-up shot.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to go with “praiseworthy” myself.

Pfft, they cut away before she changed her shirt.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if that dude had nothing to do with her death.

I don’t think Ben had Sayid’s wife killed, but I wouldn’t put it past Ben to be making up a Widmore connection to her death in order to manipulate Sayid into becoming his red right hand.

I mean, what proof did he really give Sayid but an supposed traffic light camera photograph? It could’ve been from any traffic light camera anywhere in the world for all Sayid knew.

He wants someone to blame for her death, but there’s probably no one in the end, it was just bad luck. Or maybe the Island. But probably not Ben, and possibly not Widmore.

you’re just now noticing that? You could put together a video reel to mimick the “what?” clip from the first season alone.

It seems much more blatant this season. Either a wet-tshirt shot, the underwear shot, the pin-up followed by the bend over shot.

I’m not saying it’s bad, but I’m wondering if the ratings dipped slightly and they want a demographic.

First off, put me in the camp of having Ben starting to become my favorite character on the show…shotgun scene was awesome.

There is one thing I still don’t get- it may be obvious to everyone and maybe I just haven’t been following along …

Ben is told it is 2005-Sayid asks when/how he got off the island. Sayid then says he spent 8 years looking for his soon to be wife, marries her and she is killed. I am assuming this all occurs AFTER he gets off the island? Or does it? When do those 8 years take place? Either way, are they off the island in 2005? I thought it was present day…or is there a time travel issue I missed or in fact this is just part of the wtf is going on with the show this season?

Also, has there ever been any follow up on the weirdness of Claire’s baby - remember early on that weird cult guy that wanted the baby and tried to kill him? OR has that just gone by the wayside?

They are off the island in 2005. In the timeline of the show, episodes are only a few days apart (or even less). So Lost ‘started’ around the same time that the first episode aired but quickly fell behind, what with only one episode per week, summer break, writers’ strike etc.

I think Sayid’s eight years are from him losing her in Iraq to his finding her again soon after he gets off the island… the crash and his time on the island are part of that time.
