Cathcart, you should play Command & Conquer 3. Holloway was just as good in that as he is on Lost!

P.S. Yes, I went there!

I think Elizabeth Mitchell is a hot babe, but her only look is a smirk. And she looks like that on every TV show and movie I’ve ever seen her in.

But she does more with a smirk than most actors do before 9 AM. Or something like that. Seriously, she’s the only one on the cast – including Emerson – who I get the feeling is really thinking and not just acting, and she gets that across with just a look more often than a line of dialogue.

There’s one scene in particular where like Sayid and Sawyer chase her down in the jungle to keep her from getting a box of guns or some such, and she manages to scare them off, just with a look that says, “Don’t be stupid. I’m doing something really important that you can’t even begin to understand.” And then as she’s walking away, she’s got the look, “Holy shit I can’t believe that just worked.”

That’s actually a great observation! I get the sense that Elizabeth Mitchell is the smartest actor on that show and I wish they’d give her better material, or at least clarify her motivation and give us a complete character instead of using her in the mystery-of-the-week audience manipulate-a-thon. Actually, heck, they should have cast her as Kate!

Is a condescending “you actually said something useful!” part of your plan for a kinder, gentler Qt3? Because you might want to rethink that one.

But I have to say that although Elizabeth Mitchell, Michael Emerson, and Terry O’Quinn are probably the strongest actors on the cast, it’s a good thing they’re not the leads. I think Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly are perfectly suited to their parts (and I disagree that Lilly is a bad actress; I think she’s just stuck with an annoying character, and she’s having to play it natural), and they don’t really have to fight for attention with a character role. Because they’re already the center of attention.

Plus, casting Mitchell as Kate would’ve cut the show’s popularity way way down. She’s a beautiful woman, but she does give off a strong “mom” vibe. Even if they’d cast Yunjin Kim as Kate instead of Sun, as they’d originally planned, it would’ve hurt the popularity of the show, and Yunjin Kim is astoundingly hot.

Although I can’t say I completely agree with the love for Elizabeth Mitchell’s acting in this show, I can say I just caught up and had a difficult experience watching Alex’s scene, and then turned on Alias S1-E11 and instantly realized they’re exploring another alienated father-daughter versus the bad guys thing.

Dude, it was a compliment. I think you put your finger very well on why Elizabeth Mitchell is so good. Am I that big of a jerk or are you just paranoid that people hate you? :(

And, yeah, I was kind of kidding about her as Kate. It’s just that I really think Evangeline Lilly is a weak link. BTW, Yunjin Kim was supposed to be Kate? Wow, I’d rather have that, too.

Warning: Epic Fan Wank ahead!

It’s too complicated, and like all Epic Fan Wanks, attempts to make EVERYTHING a major plot point.

I thought we were engaging in friendly good-natured ribbing.

And I dunno if Kim was actually cast as Kate, but she definitely read for the part. There’s a bit in the extra features of the first season DVD set where they show her audition for the part. She’s reading from an early version of the script where Jack died in the pilot, and Kate was the “leader.”

Greg Grunberg was the monster?!

I’d like to put in at least one vote for Kate as Kate. Lilly’s got a tough girl-next-door tomboyish charm that is different than the other women on the show. I think the writers have stretched her a little thin with the Jack Sawyer love triangle. She’s been a bit pigeonholed into that being her “thing” lately.

Just as Locke has his weakness for being manipulated by Ben that I find hard to take in the lost-suspension-of-belief matrix, Kate seems to have been over-simplified this season, doing things unbefitting of what should be a more complex character.

Kate has what is going to be a recurring problem with the flash forwards. She has no story left since we know how it is going to end, so all there is to do is look at her…

Forgive my ignorance here but have they actually confirmed that Aaron is the 6th. survivor?

Yeah. One of the shows they did a “All have been named” bit and his photo was one of the ones shown.

I wondered when they would get back to the “No man can raise your baby, Claire.”

That was way back from season one. Probably the anti-christ.

So, are they dead?? Because I saw no appendix scar in the flash forward…

They haven’t really shown one on the back of his chest from the 1st episode either throughout the seasons so I dunno about that particularly. Doesn’t make much sense for dead people to be visiting other dead people to get them to do things, though…

The Kate lovers and haters alike will love this episode I think.

It’s mostly filler, admittedly, and doesn’t really reveal that much and wasn’t really that interesting, except for maybe Claire pulling a vanishing act.

Holy crap, I keep forgetting this damned show is on Thursdays now. I watch The Office, then 30 Rock, then turn the TV off. Gotta remember that I have a PVR.

Does indicate that Sawyer lives which is good news to me…

Here’s something that’s interesting - that was the first flash-forward which definitely took place after a previous flash forward. Thus far it’s seemed like most fast-forwards have been moving backwards from the one that ended Season 3. However they explicitly referenced the trial in this one, so it’s definitely after the Kate flash-forward from earlier in the season.
