I’d expected that one of the reasons they can’t tell the truth is because they would imperil the remaining survivors and the island, just recently saved from Keamy and, ultimately, Whidmore. If Oceanic isn’t complicit in the affairs of the island, then having the survivors lie about whether it crashed on an island or crashed in the water is pretty meaningless to them …

Where the money came from is ultimately arbitrary for many reasons. I just thought that the scene seemed weak and deserved more time to develop, while they could’ve stolen some of the extended pauses from the step-sister reveal since it had already been made clear to viewers by season two.

Hmmm…I hadn’t thought about the possibility that the money wasn’t coming from Oceanic, but might be coming through them from Hanso or some other source to buy their silence about everything. That would make perfect sense, and it would mean Sun got a lot more than a few million from an airline. Hell, Sun’s price for silence may have simply been the controlling interest, accomplished quickly and neatly by Hanso or whomever. THAT seems a lot more plausible.

And yeah, that island themed party was hilariously bad taste. I lol’d.

I figure by the end of this season, either Whidmore is in partial control of the island, or the island has been moved … He still doesn’t know the location of the non-O6 survivors, as suggested by the visit Hurley receives in the ward.

Or, like, polar bears and their three-toed soldiers have returned in their spaceships to reclaim their smoke puppy … Could go any way, really.

I’ll go one step further and say that the people Ben works for are the ones who are behind the “settlement” money. Ben’s and Co. are the ones who don’t want the island found.

At this point, it seems more likely that Hanso and Dharma are either with Widmore or are a 3rd party to the Others/Widmore groups.

Well, at this point we know there’s at least 3 groups:

  • Ben/Others
  • Whidmore
  • “Daniels” and the people he represents.

The third group may be the original Dharma folks.

I was under the impression that Widmore = Dharma head person guy. Or what’s left of them.

Also as mentioned in Ben’s visit to Widmore’s home in 2005 in a flash-forward. Ben tells Widmore he’ll never find the island, Widmore tells Ben he’ll never find Penny.

I don’t think Widmore gets any control of the island or that scene wouldn’t make much sense. I think we have enough information now to assume that in the final episodes this season we’ll see the army guys defeated, the freighter blown up, the island moved, and the Oceanic 6 stranded between the freighter and the island on the small boat that they felt compelled to mention (multiple times) only holds 6 in the last episode.

Still curious about how Sun and Aaron meet up again with Jack, Hurley, Kate and Sayid on the small boat. I’m guessing Jin really is dead and dies along with a lot of the red shirt survivors on the blowed-up freighter. Also curious about the fate of Michael and Desmond. If I had to guess, I figure they’ll kill Michael off as some sort of self sacrifice during the freighter explosion so as to bring his redemption full circle.

Well, the preview following the last episode showed Lapidus flying Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid in the chopper. So that would be my guess.

Also, I think Michael is my leading candidate for the guy in the coffin now. Since he fulfilled his destiny perhaps the island allows him to off himself.

The freighter better not fucking blow up.

I’m pretty sure it is going to blow up as that would neatly explain how only 6 got off. I think the guitar tuner the main merc guy is wearing is a dead switch for the C4 and he’s going to die (or go far out of range when the island moves) and then BOOM! goes the dynamite.

Oh shit, the first hour of the finale has now been spoiled by the guy who revealed last season’s finale, so if you’re the kind who checks out Lost forums/sites be very careful.

Man, I remember this time last year I sought out that spoiler because I really didn’t want to sit through the show if it was going to suck. Amazing what an awesome season will do to turn you around.

I use the word ‘partially’ because while I don’t think Widmore would actually gain control, but that potentially his mercenaries will still have a foothold on the island, even if disadvantaged and unable to communicate back.

I also got the general feeling that Ben could lose some access to the island, in part from his operations with Sayid in the outside world. Obviously, he could still be operating from the island, I just got the impression …

According to my local TV writer, they plan 34 total additional shows, 17 each of the next two years!

There is no way there is that much material getting the 6 off the island:

Therefore, future seasons must be:

1 Some or all of the 6 returning to the island with “interesting” new characters.
2 Many of the characters stay rather than die and lots of stuff happens to them.
3 Lots more stuff happens to the 6 off the island.
4 There is an Oceanic second 6 or 10 or…, and we follow their flash forwards.
5 Lots of shark jumping.

My bet is 1+2.

I’ve been wondering if the show would jump forward after the end of this season – that they’d pick up after all the flash-forwards we’ve seen to date and pick things up with the Oceanic Six still here in the “real” world trying to help some subset of characters still back on the island.

I’ve figured it will be a blend between actions on and off the island, as they’ve already been doing.

I’m really hoping they either figure out how to progress Jack and Kate’s exhausting issues, or have them killed. I die a little every time I realize an episode is going to be incomprehensible psychological trauma-drama hour.

Sun’s father is told the buyout came from 5 different banks. Perhaps the O6 pooled their settlement money to buy controlling interest.

I’ve pretty much been assuming this since the first episode of this season, that the whole point of season four is to explain everything up until the flash forward from the season 3 finale. Next year is getting back to the island and the last season is fighting for control over the island. Or something. Also I’m hoping Lance Reddick becomes a major character next year because it seems like he’s got some cool history stuff.

I took that as an explanation of how to explain why they didn’t see it coming. Company boards tend to notice when a single holder starts gobbling up a significant amount of shares.

The surprise buyout from the protagonist is bordering on a movie cliche wherever company politics becomes a plot point. I assume because producers expect it’s the only element of company politics most viewers will understand, perhaps rightfully.

It’s sort of like the young prince returning to the kingdom to banish the corrupt, old vizier - and people are pretty familiar with that trope.

Seems pretty likely - but you never know with these guys.

Whatever happened to Clancy Brown?
