I think Lost is one case where I have a completely different opinion from the general public.

The first season was a silly survival horror where a number of situations were simply used for cool factor. Then it evolved toward a much more complex narrative with plenty of mysteries and brain screwing. And finally it become almost pure sci-fi, based on fancy ideas.

I liked much more the core in there, when the mythology was still powerful in potential. The first season was just good execution on a product that was using all sort of tricks just to be cool and edgy. Then it became intricate and deep (and original, not just a patchwork of old ideas), and I loved it. I started to lose interest again with the time travel and other poor ideas that seemed just to dilute the plot.

Hay guys, shouldn’t we start a new thread for teh next season of Lost?

You’ve summarized them pretty well, but both Lost and BSG were pretty good somewhere into at least their second season, and I’m pretty sure those timeframes overlapped for those two. You could argue that at that point, Lost still wasn’t as good as it is now, but there were definitely plenty of us who enjoyed it a lot before the slide in season 3.

If you re-break the page counter I’ll be willing to do it.

Rewatching the 4th season finale with the extra information crawl at the bottom was pretty good – definitely made me excited for the 5th. Though the preview bit they showed was pretty awful, I’m just hoping that was bad editing…

2nd season is still my favorite – something about that intense countdown clock just exactly pushed my tension buttons every time.

We’re definitely in the minority, but I’m with you on that one. I loved season 2, and the whole mystery behind the Swan. Locke became my favorite character that season, if only because he seemed to be the only one trying to figure out what it was all about.

I’d agree with this somewhat, although I think Lost season 2 is where people started getting frustrated with the show, with them dragging out the hatch stuff for the entire season.

I’m looking forward to this week’s premiere. The show felt like it had resetablished direction last year. I’m curious to see what they do now that six of them have gotten back into society.

It actually looked like sub-par production values as well, same as the other “previews” they’ve shown. I’m betting they filmed them on-demand from the network, and didn’t really put too much effort into them.

Well, the minority here is becoming consistent as I also liked Season 2 the most…

Season 2 was probably the best in terms of mystery and tension, although I’m really enjoying the show now that it seems stable and is pulling together the mythology.

Some of the season three episodes are now better with the later revelations then they were at the time…

“What is this?”
“It’s a compass.”
“What’s it do?”
“It points north, John.”

Clearly one of my most favorite exchanges so far.

I think the viewers of this show can be very demanding, and now the show is going to be just as demanding of its viewers. There’s no skipping scenes now - you really have to pay attention. Without even really knowing what’s going on.

But that’s always been Lost. Always 3 steps ahead of you, always making you chase it and anxiously awaiting the next episode hoping that it will provide SOME sort of relief to the questions you have.

Since it’s been 8 months, it felt a little weird at first, because other shows you watch are much more conventional. But as the second episode started, it really hit me that the show has ALWAYS been like this, always been confusing and maddening and enticing in such a unique way.

In other words, it’s LOST. I’m so glad it’s back.

I suspected Ms. Hawking would be Faraday’s mom, but that’s going to cause problems for Desmond looking for her in Oxford.

Her map, and the complete disappearance of the island at the end of last season suggests that the island moves physically (which is why the heading to leave changes maybe), and people on it can move through time (while remaining on it).

And some of them might be able to move through time off it. All the ghosts, on the island and off, might those who have moved through time trying to change things (Except maybe Hurley’s)?

Charlotte’s memory problem also explains Faraday’s. Time travel is bad for the brain.

Glad to see Lost back. And doubleheaders with Life on Mars, which I like, should be fun.

Did the dog get hit with the flaming arrow?? That would suck. It was hard to tell…

GOD DAMN YOU TIVO

Sun is now evil! EEEEEEVVVVIILLLLL!

Ben is still evil.

After that conversation between Sun and Kate finished, I made the prediction that the lawyers who came to Kate’s house were from Sun. I still stand by that prediction.

I like the new “evil” Sun. I have no doubt she will be good again by the end of the show (if she isnt already good and not playing some type of con game with Widmore), but the show needs a bad guy that I dont want to root for, since Ben is now my favorite character on the show.

I’m not sure “evil” really applies to any of the characters on the show with the possible exception of Widmore and with him it is still a big unknown since they haven’t really revealed what his motivations are.

Ben, for example, is a callous bastard, yeah, but as the show goes on they are suggesting more and more that ultimately he’s working to save the world from whatever the nasty thing that happens if the Oceanic 6 don’t get back to the island is and also hinting that previous bastardly things he has done were probably to keep Widmore off the island, which may be a noble goal (though, again, we don’t really know exactly what Widmore’s up to unless it was better explained in one of those ARGs or novels or whatever that I don’t pay attention to).

I’m not sure, because other than taking something away from Kate, like she lost Jin, I’m not sure where her motives are.

On the other hand, we still have Claire’s Mom running around, and it’s possible people’s from Kate’s past did the math.

I’m not discounting this idea, though.
