My guess is Ben is the one who sent those “lawyers”, because he knew Kate would then go on the run and have less to lose/more to gain by returning to the island with Aaron.

Time travel is a bitch. You never know what kind of logic can be applied to time travel “rules”.

Faraday says that you can’t affect anything that already happened - which I guess is true given the events of Desmond in S3 when he ran away from Penny (twice). However, that wasn’t true to the point that Desmond was able to get Penny to wait on the phone and contact her while he was on the boat in S4 so maybe you can’t change time but you can bend it a little? Fraday is a great character though. I love that guy.

Side note, so what’s the deal with the ghost whisperer and the boar? He can kill animals with his mind or something? They made it intentionally vague.

I think the idea there was that he sees dead people, and maybe dead animals too, so he just nicely asked somebody where a recently dead animal was and then went out and dragged it back to the beach. That’s the only thing that makes sense to me given what we’ve seen so far, anyway.

What’s with all the dead people springing up? And wouldn’t have Hatch-Desmond recognized Faraday from when he went to visit him at Oxford previously (back when Faraday designated Desmond as his constant)… Also, when do the Tralfamadorians arrive?

Don’t forget that they said Desmond was outside the time travel rules.

They did? I don’t remember that.

Good point. Hmm. I guess the consciousnesness of the young Oxford Desmond was gone while modern day Desmond went back in time to inhabit his younger self.

Another side note, Sayid is still one bad ass mutherfucker in this season even if he’s unconsciuos through most of the ep.

Memory’s fuzzy, but I think the Desmond that visited Oxford Faraday was Freighter-Desmond just inhabiting pre-hatch Desmond’s body, no? So once Freighter-Desmond’s consciousness jumped back to the freighter, pre-hatch Desmond in Oxford would forget everything that Freighter-Desmond just did in Oxford?

Yeah, just after Faraday shooed Sawyer away from the hatch saying there’s no way the door will open because you can’t change what happened. Faraday flips through his notes, says something about how Desmond is the only one who can get around the rules, knocks again, and sure enough Desmond is able to open the door.

You are correct! I forgot about that. But isn’t Desmond special because he sort of exists as a 4th dimensional being? Remember his whole Jesus act/saving Charlie and sort of being able to see the whole time line?

They better not have killed Vincent! Frankly I was surprised they even showed him (and it was a different dog, perhaps the original Vincent passed away over the 4 years the show’s been on?). I wonder who is taking care of him now? Poor Frogurt though, ouch.

I thought this was frankly the best season premiere to date (original series premiere excepted). Finally the writing is back on track and we’re not left with more questions than we started with at the end of an episode. Finally we make real progress during the course of an episode. Finally it appears that lines are being drawn and motivations are being setup to make characters act the way they do. The changes to the writing team last season seem ot have really paid off.

I like how Richards people don’t move through time like everyone else. That seems to confirm that they’re natives of the island. Was it them shooting the fire arrows at the beach survivors? And was it Dharma guys in the military fatigues that assaulted Sawyer and the doc? It was hard to tell, the uniforms didn’t look like the same ones the Dharma crew had been wearing, and those guys had guns, indicating that they were not the same as the arrow-shooting group.

For the first time in a couple of seasons I’m actually really interested in what’s going to happen and excited to see where it leads. Please don’t fail me LOST!

I wonder how many toes Richard has.

“Oh, and Libby says hi.” A great punchline to end a great scene. :)

Lots of fun stuff last night. I’m holding out hope that having an end date for the series series means they’ve mapped a lot of stuff out and can consistently keep things moving at this pace.

Sayid was unconscious through most of the episode because he killed a guy by dropping him on a fucking pile of knives! If he was up walking around after that television as we know it would have exploded from whatever he did next. Sayid is my hero.

Oh, and great start to the season. I really like the evolution of Sun’s character. Hurley works well as the moral rock of the group. And Ben just keeps being manipulative asshole Ben. It looks to be a good year on and off the island.

Gotta quote sarcastor on GAF:

“Sayid is soo bad ass, when he dries his knives in the dishwasher, he puts them blade side up…just in case of any attackers he needs to impale upon said knives.”

Can’t wait until everyone is back on the island.

In one moment, they solidified my love for this show: Where did the compass come from?

Locke is supposed to have given it to Richard, and Richard then gives it back to Locke. Suddenly, we have an item that has no origins…just a loop in time.

When did Locke give the compass to Richard? I thought the compass was the same one from the Dali Lama test Richard gave to Kid Locke.

We didn’t see it in this episode, but Richard says to Locke: “Here, you’ll give me this when we meet again.”

Ah, right. Awesome.

That’s correct.

The only reason Richard had the compass is because Locke gave it to him in the past.

The only reason Locke has the compass is because Richard gave it to him in the present to give back to Richard in the future.

So where did the compass come from originally?

I would stand by it too, proudly, because it was pretty brilliant of you to associate those dots, without any prodding or suggesting whatsoever.
