I think all of 3 of them were probably kids on the island, given that Daniel’s mom was almost certainly the lady that escorted him to the bomb and yeah it would fit that Miles is Orientation Video Guy’s kid since they’ve gone out of the way to reference the fact that he had a kid and keep coming back to him.
Interestingly, though, while it wasn’t really commented on yet and was more of a facial expression and music cue thing, Ben sure seemed surprised when Desmond said that Eloise was Faraday’s mom. I wonder if he didn’t know this, or if he was just surprised because he put 2 and 2 together and realized Desmond must have talked to Widmore.
Yeah, they made sure we realized that Desmond had information that was a surprise to Ben. I also got the impression when Ben first saw Desmond that he was actually a little frightened by him. When I think back on it, did Ben and Desmond really have much contact at all to this point?
I thought last night’s episode was full of cool revelations. It seems Charlotte, Faraday and Miles were all previously on the island, Charlotte and Miles as kids, but Faraday was clearly shown as an adult the same age as he is now in the previous episode when he was with Dharma people down in the Orchid construction site. They still haven’t really explained that.
I like how the smoke monster made a return and was defined as “a security system for the temple”. OK, so what does that say about the temple and the people who built it? Also, it obviously changed the three Frenchmen somehow, how else to explain how the father tried to kill Danielle and her baby? Are Richard’s people a product of this conversion process, or are they the original builders of the Temple and the “security system”?
Still so many questions to be answered, but I like how this season they seem to be trying to tie together a lot of loose ends and seemingly forgotten “mysteries” into the overall mythos of the island. Good stuff!
Now I’d like to know what happened to Rose,Bernard and Vincent (and any other survivors assuming there are any left at this point). Also, where did the rest of Ben’s people go? They had the kids with them, and shouldn’t they have been zapping through time and space all this time as well?
Good point regarding the Widmore thing. That was a strange reaction.
I think the previous episode was much more interesting than this one, but at least it wasn’t a total loss. I was pretty disappointed by dragging out the Sun/Ben thing, but kind of saw that coming from the previews. Emotionally distraught + gun + TV = drag-ass plot.
At least they brought the island whisper/madness thing up again. And the tree-popping! Hope they go somewhere good with it …
Well, according to the podcast, Rose and Bernard would probably be dead on camera if they were dead, but they weren’t too clear on whether we would see them again any time soon. Damon and Carlton have gone on record that Vincent will survive to the end of season 6.
It would seem, however, that The Others are not traveling through time, at least so far as we have seen. The only encounter with one we’d recognize (Alpert) has been with his past version. It would appear that The Temple is magic, since it’s covered with the same freaky runes that show up on the wheel, so if they’re hiding out there it’s possible they’re somehow shielded from the effects.
I’ll also be shocked if we don’t see people coming back to life. Again from the last podcast, the hieroglyphics are supposed to be related to resurrection, which is apparently one of the themes they’re working on this year.
I’m developing the impression that it is a separate group from the Others/Jacob. Good v. evil.
He’ll probably turn out to be the mastermind behind the whole thing. An alien in dog form and the island turns out to be his ship that travels through time and space. =)
Either that or the series will end with the island and everyone on it going poof except for Vincent, who will be picked up by a fishing trawler while dogpaddling in the empty ocean.

Question: Was Ben ever aware that Desmond got off the island? I’ve lost track.
IIRC, he went down to the gear thingie to move the island, and then resurfaced in Tunisia or something, and then I assume he saw the Oceanic Six on the news, which Desmond wasn’t a part of. Has there ever been any flashback showing that Ben knew Desmond came back with them?
Whatever the case, the “Faraday’s mother” angle seemed to surprise Ben for sure.
When the Frenchman heard the numbers on his radio it sounded a whole lot like Hurley. Anyone else pick up on this/know what it might mean?

I don’t think it was Hurley. If it were, it would mean two tapes of people reading numbers, since previous encounters with this also did not sound like Hurley.
I think the most probable explanation is that in an upcoming episode they will time shift to Orchid construction time period and Farraday will need to infiltrate it for whatever reason. While there he will see young Charlotte and, in his grief, plead with her never to return even though intellectually he should know that it’s futile.
Unless the show plays all the ‘our destiny’s are set, we can’t change them’ iron rules only to completely knock them down in the end for the ‘always strive for the best and never give up’ drivel.
I’m seeing a lot of people say that it sounded like Hurley so seventimessix isn’t alone on this one.
Maybe I’m not remembering correctly but I think this is the first time we’ve actually heard the pre-Rousseau recording. We had been told about it before (from Rousseau herself and also one of the guys that Hurley spent time with in the insane asylum when he first heard about the numbers) but never actually heard the audio.

I looooooooove this show ^____^
They’ve established that Desmond is the wild card, though. He adds a little uncertainty to the ‘rule’ that everything that happens, happens.
I’m pretty disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of Rousseau and her story, but all things considered it was quite smartly done. They’ve filled in some of the gaps well, but I still think we might be seeing young Rousseau again.
… Or I hope >_>
The next two episodes should prove to be very interesting indeed - apparently they are interchangeable in terms of viewing order, I suppose that means they take place during the same time frame and show different sides to what happens.
GAF points out that next week’s episode is titled 316, as in John 3:16, as in John Locke, as in Hawking lady said they had 72 (or 70, maybe? but close enough) hours to reunite everyone, as in the 3 days that Jesus was dead before coming back to life.
I hear that. I was definitely hoping to see that play out a bit.
It kills me some of the things they linger on, and then others that just get glossed over. What the hell? They could’ve really made some compelling stuff out of the French dudes creepily sauntering back in to camp with their podpeople thing and being able to actually witness Rousseau’s descent …
I’m seeing a lot of people say that it sounded like Hurley so seventimessix isn’t alone on this one.
That’s awesome. Hurley won the lottery because he was the one on the broadcast crazy dude in the asylum heard.
I was originally skeptical about the whole time travel plot but it’s working.
I like the theory that the monster, or what’s in the temple, makes a person an Other. Is Locke the only survivor that’s been grabbed by it?

Well Eko died by the smoke monster. I’ve been interested with the sounds that the smoke makes. The mechanical/chain sounds it makes when it drags people is evident but last week’s ep it was making some real odd noises while just hovering around before grabbing the frenchmen.
The “clickety” sound is actually looped from the receipt printer in a New York taxicab.

Wait! They answered that one already, didn’t they? In season 3 Jack is held captive in a giant aquarium. Juliet explains that the Darma initiative did experimentation on sharks and dolphins. It wasn’t much of an explanation but it was an explanation.
That was the half-assed answer, yes. Damon and Carlton never really intended it to be THAT big of a deal on the show. In the video game (non-canon, officially, though apparently they helped to inform what happens there) you get to wander around where they keep the thing, and even pull it up out of the water. Possibly the single most thrilling event in the entire game.
Can I even mention that thing without bashing it with a rusty pipe? Even I’m starting to notice it.
