So what about the bit where they show him in the asylum with … whatser? Titus’ wife.
Did we get clarification for that, or was it just zany under-the-rug fodder?
I assume he’s the same as all the other the dead folks that Hurley is talking to. We’ll end up with some explanation for all that.
Hmm. Is that true? Maybe it’s the smoke monster then.
Libby was real, as far as I know. She also was at the mental hospital at the same time as Hurley. We didn’t get any clarification on that as of yet, and we probably won’t seeing as the actress hasn’t been back on the show since she died.
Re: Dave: If you check out the Lostpedia page on the character, they have a quote from the creators noting how Dave was a manifestation of Hurley’s aborted relationship with his father, combined with general Hurley craziness.

We have seen Libby again twice since her death, actually, first when she gave her husband’s boat to Desmond for his race and then during the episode that explained how Michael ended up on the freighter. I really hope she returns so that we can learn more about her, but apparently the producers aren’t in any hurry to tell her story.
Libby is a running joke on the podcast, so I’m guessing that it’s at best an even chance that she ever gets figured out in the story. That’s a shame, because I’ve always liked that actress, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high for a resolution on that front. In order to do a “Why’s Libby in the crazy house?” episode they’d need to get the actress back and do almost a full flashback to handle it as anything other than a throwaway newspaper headline.
Well, there are 3 episodes left in this season,(final ep is the 13th of May) and they have a lot to deal with yet concerning the Dharma Initiative.
Next season is a complete toss-up as to what they will be covering.
Libby could be the focus of an entire episode or 2. ( mean shit, they wasted an entire episode on Ben getting shot and taken to the others to get “saved”)
So, of the final 16 in the next season an ep dealing with Libby wouldn’t be unexpected or out of line.
There is/was talk about an episode dealing with Tom/Mr Friendly and his being homosexual.
There is also Mikhail/Eyepatch, how’d he get the eyepatch, why was he so hard to kill?
Lots of questions answered this season, lots more to be answered yet.
One thing I do know, it’s going to be another long fucking wait if they hold off the Season 5 DVDs til December like they did with season 4, and til January when the final season comes on the air.
Wait, I thought this was supposed to be the final season? I have to put up with another season of this shit? Lost might have just lost a viewer, I don’t know if I want to stomach another whole season.
Oh yeah, what a burden.
Sounds like they’ll really miss your fervent viewership, too.
Lost is like that crazy ex girlfriend that you just can’t stay away from. Eventually a time comes when you’ve just had enough. If that time is another year away I’m not sure I’ll put off the break up.
Pussy.
Originally JJ and Carlton had it in mind that Lost was going to stretch out over 7 or possibly 9 seasons. ( this shit all stems back to JMS trying to sell Bab 5 as 5 year plan, the later Whedon trying to sell Firefly as a 7 year [like Buffy] run, ABC execs had other ideas as the story got more and more involved with little to no payout over the course of a season, so it was cut down to 6 seasons, with seasons 5 and 6 consisting of 16 episodes each, instead of the “standard” 22)
C’mon, don’t you want to know the intricacies of how Ben came to wear glasses when he was a child and now as an adult doesn’t need them anymore???
Or just exactly what is up with Ajira 316?
Who are those people?
Why are they chosen to be on the island?
Blah blah blah?
Nobody ever said this was going to be the last–they’ve been saying for nearly two years or so that next season is the last season. And when we’ve been discussing it in this thread it’s been mentioned numerous times.

Lost is the show I’d marry.
It’s not her, it’s her around you.

That makes 4, since on the 13th they’ll be airing two episodes. (Due to the writers’ strike last season, they decided on 17 episodes each for the last 2 seasons. And the clip show was numbered 13.5.)
I’d be just as happy tunining in for years of this shit and never knowing the secrets behind the mysteries, myself. I’ll honestly be sad to see this show and it’s characters go.
That’s how I felt during season one, but the problem with that is in lieu of mysteries the writers just don’t know what to do. The writing in season two was poor and all over the place, with characters’ personalities and motivations changing episode to episode and the flashbacks becoming increasingly irrelevant and repeating themselves. I’d rather have a solid 4.5 good years.
I wouldn’t mind never knowing the answers if they just wrote good shows and didn’t hang much of the storyline on those mysteries.
You know, I never really got that impression from the show. Granted, they have their good episodes and their bad ones, and it’s rare to get a Lost that’s on the level of, say, Three Stories from House (in part because procedurals do better stand-alone issues in general), I don’t get the feeling that the overall story is driven by the mysteries so much as it’s enhanced and decorated with them. If you think about it, the mysteries that everybody spends so many bytes on the internet discussing don’t really have THAT much to do with the central plot going forward. Knowing what was behind the magnetic wall in The Swan, for instance, is neat, but in no way is it critical to understanding the show or its story.
That’s just me, though - tastes vary.
As we head into this last season of the show, has there been any talk at all about what Vaughn/Lindeloff/Cuse are doing next? I’m on board with whatever it is they want to do, but I’m kind of surprised at the fact that I haven’t heard anything about their next project at all. I mean, six months from now they should be breaking the final seventeen episodes in the writers’ room - I would think that they would already be laying plans for what comes next.
My guess: Brisco County II.
Hey, a guy can dream.
Only if they can get Bruce Campbell again.
It doesn’t in execution, but when more episodes than not end with a horn-signaled cliffhanger featuring some new bizarre phenomenon, and when they spend full episodes going over the significance of appeasing some arcane desires of the Island, they sure seem to be leaning on that to drive interest.
For instance, Ben pointing out how amazed he is that Locke is reanimated is almost like a subconscious acknowledgment of audience wonder fatigue. In prior episodes it was enough to have something supernatural occur without characters having to make a point of it.
The best shows for me are the ones that do just tell the story with the characters, and have weird things happen incidentally. It’s what I loved most about the first season (and I think the third? fourth?) … They do still have great shows, but then there are shows that just patter around connecting arbitrary links, as Sansker was addressing above.
Episodes that are great are great, which is why I keep watching. But there’s quite a lot of filler between.
