My friend L and I have been watching Lost in the past two weeks and we are 1/3 of the way through season 2; thus, for spoiler reasons, I won’t be checking this thread for responses to this post for a week or two. Nevertheless, I can’t resist posting this right now.
L suggested that we pick teams, and volunteered to pick first. She picked Jack, for both doctor and crush reasons. I demanded the next two picks as compensation for being forced to pick second. L concurred.
The teams are:
L:
- Jack
- Said
- Michael
- Hurley
- Claire
Me:
- Locke
- Jin
- Sun
- Kate
- Sawyer
Comments:
I know, given my reading of the first 25 pages of this thread, that Locke will be widely regarded as a solid choice, but I expect some heat about my Jin and Sun picks. I took Jin early because he is resourceful and tough, and Sun because she brings some doctoring skills to the table (and, as L points out, Sun immediately increases the value of my Jin pick).
With Locke, Jin, and Sun, I have very solid food gathering. I lack leadership at this point, however, so I was overjoyed to see Kate still on the board at pick 7. Sawyer at pick 9 is an investment, as his character seems to be developing in maturity; he also gives me a second couple (Jin/Sun and Kate/Sawyer) for repopulation purposes.
L says she would have chosen Said at pick 2 if she’d gone second, so she was happy I passed him up. I say that anyone who would fancy Shannon is mentally suspect, but L feels that Said’s leadership and mechanical know-how more than offsets this issue. I must agree that with Jack and Said on her team, she has an insurmountable technology lead on me. My team can feed itself and little else.
Her third and fourth picks (Michael and Hurley) give her team a nice balance of verve and cohesiveness. L’s team would get along famously. L explains that with her pick of Hurley, she transitioned from choosing useful people to simply picking people with lower liability.
We went on to pick 20 people altogether; the only character not chosen was Shannon, despite her womb, who is as useless as she thinks she is. L suggests that Said’s value was higher to her since she never planned to choose Shannon for her team in the first place.
