I’m in the Other Others group…they were way too clean compared to those we met in the forest.
Yup, NO kids at all…and no way they have all been there 20 years unless something is affecting them physically?
All told, I liked the episode for what it was…an episode but it basically just gave us many more questions and gave us pretty much NO answers at all.
I like them to at least throw me a bone…and now apparently they are doing 6 episodes then going on hiatus… wtf happened to a season of 24 concurrent episodes??
They announced earlier in the year that for some reason this wasn’t feasable for the network. So they compromised, instead of waiting until January to start the new season, they’ll give us 6 weeks now, break for 12 weeks and show a run of a totally new series, then return for another 14 (or possibly 16) weeks in Feburary.
edit - Near as I can tell from other internet sources, they claim it’s because of the length of time it takes them to produce a single episode.

So anyone know the showtime/commercial time ratio this season opener had? Seemed like quite a lot of ads.
I’m not a close follower of Lost, but I do watch it here and there, so take this with a grain of salt.
I heard someone in some previous thread saying that the island was purgatory. Someone else also said the writers denied it. But it’s held up pretty well with every episode I’ve seen, including tonight’s (e.g. the big file of Jack’s life).
It’s pretty lame, but not really any more or less than the aliens/evil corporation/etc.

I know. White people. They all look the same.

Dude, just cuz a group of survivors on a deserted island are having a bad time doesn’t mean it is purgatory.
If that’s the case then my job is fuckin’ purgatory…
No no, it’s not that. It’s that the innocents (the children) get taken away, and the show goes out of their way to show that each character has their issue. Once it gets worked out, they disappear/die (e.g. Hurley’s Girlfriend).
Like I said, take this particular crackpot theory with a grain of salt, but when the chick pulled out the “folder of Jack’s life” in the last episode, it did kinda seem to fit.
I think the put the book in because they know Stephen King is a big fan…
Allusions to purgatory do not mean the setting is literally in purgatory. Damn, can’t a brother make a metaphor no more?
You’re off your rocker. There wasn’t a “reference” made to an aquarium, jack’s cell actually was an aquarium. Hence the big glass wall. (also, Sawyer and Kate are in the cages the bears were in, establishing a sort of theme for the episode I suppose) The part of the facility he’s in is obviously below sea level, but there was absolutely nothing to suggest the whole island was, or that he meant that when he asked. The magnetic anomaly is enough to account for Desmond’s screwy sailing, and seriously, a wormhole/portal/gateway that allowed the plane to fly into your magic underwater biodome? You’re making the show look downright realistic by comparison.
YOU SHUT UP. Don’t mess with my insightful - dare I say brilliant? - Unified Theory Of Lost.

What would be evidence that it isn’t purgatory? Other than a shot of a busy street with flashing neon that says “NOT PURGATORY” everything could be purgatory.
H.
The writers have said it’s not purgatory. Plus, we saw events on the island affect other parts of the world back at the end of S2.
Unrealistic? You bet. But since I don’t have a blog, six months from now when it’s revealed that the show actually takes place underground or underwater, I’ll be able to point back to this. :) Besides, someone has to carry the banner for Toddy-esque insanity!

Ben’s crew did have Walt at the end of last season. And weren’t there other kids around?
But, I think you might be right. From the conversation between Jack and Juliet, I got the idea that the Ben’s crew is distinct from the original Dharma group, and that some of that original group may still be around.
A season ago, many thought the bearded man on the boat that took Walt was the same bearded man who created the Dharma group with his wife. But now we know that beard was fake and he is part of Ben’s crew. That leaves the possibility of the original Dharma group still being around.
Perhaps there was a ‘forced merger’ of the two groups, given Juliet’s hostility towards Ben
Ben’s crew is clearly currently connected to the outside world with access to information. Either they have a means of transportation or they have some reliable communications.
Was the guy who ‘rescued’ Desmond part of Ben’s crew?

“Forced merger”??
Dude, Survivor is on Thursday nights. We are talking about Lost here.

Never seen it. On Thursdays, I go to rugby practice. And by rugby practice I mean the pub.
Heavy drinking is appropriate practice for rugby.

I took that to mean that they had a previous romantic relationship. Note that they had been in the book club together and he wasn’t invited when she hosted at the beginning of the ep.
I think the Ben/Juliette hostility is an awesome dynamic.
