I am thinking it is the perfect con. Show Sawyer another island - say the island in the distance is “his” island - Boom! He figures he can never escape. It is not like Sawyer can recognize “his” island. He would just assume that Ben is telling the truth.

Possible. But we’ve never seen even the possibility of two islands before. I think the Alcatraz island is just another one of the Dharma sites. I don’t recall anything from Otherville that had a Dharma logo on it, and the style was markedly different.

Yeah, it is probably a second island. I was wrong in thinking that the Hydra was on the Blast Door map (it is not).

The island they are captives on is small, they showed it only stretching out a mile or so behind Sawyer and Benry on the cliffs. It’s likely the Dharma “Hydra” base where they did the research on animals like the Polar Bears, Dharma logo shark and the Hurley Bird. It would make sense to have that facility separated from the main island so the animals couldn’t get out into the main islands eco-system by accident. I don’t think the Others little utopia is on the “Alcatraz” island, it was clearly shown as part of the main island in the season opener. So this would seem to be an island that exists solely for the research station there, which also explains why only a handful of Others seem to be present and why none of the other earlier captured plane survivors are anywhere to be seen.

anyone who can insert a pacemaker with a blind needle injection should be buying a lottery ticket… I figured this one out from the beginning (that it was a con)… pretty stupid idea though… to blindly stick a needle into a man’s chest for a con – this must mean that they don’t care if Sawyer lives or dies… which is contrary to what we think – we probably assume they want Sawyer to live since he is a main character to the plot and instrumental in influencing Kate, another main character… yet by sticking a needle into his chest they are being pretty wreckless

(sorry for the run on sentence)

I think the captured survivors weren’t taken by this group. I think there is a second group on the island. If this is that group, where are all the barefoot kids we saw walking by Eko and Jin?

Didn’t want to hire the extras? If this is not the group kidnapping people, why take the baby,Walt, and infiltrate the groups to make lists? Not to mention the guys and gal they have now…

I’m guessing they took the kids to prevent the other Others from taking the kids.

I can’t get over the fact that Jack et al can’t see the Others’ island from their island.

click link for the pic (can’t seem to insert it into body of msg):

That was a great episode.

SPOILER (IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE EPISODE):
I am surprised that Eko is the character that died. I really liked him.

It was nice that they tied up a lot of loose ends with his character including why he was obsessively building a church on the island.

Dammit… should not have clicked on this thread.

AW MAN! Why they gotta get rid of THE MAN?

Sad to see Eko go, but I think the number of weird mystics (Locke, Eko, possibly Desmond) was getting a little too high. Plus, amazingly, his death actually answered some questions. We can now say with certainty what the most is and how it does what it does… well, except for the part about it being a huge cloud of black smoke.

PS. What were the odds that there would be another hot girl just stumbling around on the island too waiting for her chance to speak up?

Man, the Tailies really got FUCKED.

Man,they are really TRYING to piss off their loyal fans. Killing off one of the best and one of the few competent characters, especially since I was waiting for him to get a chance to wipe out some Others.

Then they advertise the “Fall Season Finale” like it’s a good thing they are taking a ridiculous break on the middle of the bloody season.

Don’t piss on us, and say it’s raining, sometimes we need a little positive re-enforcement for watching the show…

I see what you are saying about Eko, I mean, I loved the character too. But after this episode he had no more backstory to tell and outside of Locke, and maybe Charlie, had no real relationships with anyone. And like I said, his death meant we get to see what the monster/black smoke can do which in a bizarre way, is almost worth it at this point.

As for the Fall Season finale, I’m kinda surprised they were promoting it so heavily but just think, after the break we’ll get 17 uninterupted episodes.

At first I thought that Eko had scared the black smoke away. But then it came back and killed him.

Question: Is the black smoke afraid of being seen by more than one person? Or is Locke the one that scared it away the first time? Before it roughed up Eko, I mean.

Only because they chose to write it that way…

I’m sure they could have filled in the gap between boy who sticks up for his brother and criminal who regrets and tries to repent.

I’m not sad to see Eko go. Yeah he was hardcore but there wasn’t much character there. He was just “strange badass who does things for no concievable reason.”

I’m kind of pissed they’re introducing more characters. The tailies from last year were a disaster - not a one of them was as compelling as the original characters, with the possible exception of Bernard and Rose. But Ana Lucia? Libby? I’ve got very little confidence that the two newbs will be at all worthwhile.

As for the long break - seriously there is no pleasing people. Last year they did the typical TV thing of trickling out episodes one or two a month so they could stretch things out 'til May-June and people bitched. This year they’re splitting it into two parts and people bitch. Frankly after my experience with 24 I’m happy to see them go this route - it’s much better.

Oh and: the Black Smoke only killed Eko after he refused to confess and repent. I think killing him was an act of judgement.
