Nothing…they’re still socketed. And any old ones you had, you still have; the ones that were t7-t9 actually you can decon (or whatever) for way more shards than you can get from the new t1-t6 ones.

So … you can have an old t9 relic if and only if you had one prior to the patch? Isn’t that a huge nerf overall? Or did they increase the stats on the lower tier runes?

So I did some reading and some playing so that I could understand how relics work now.

One the one hand:

Wow, I really like the new relic system. Not only is it a lot easier to get good relics but I like melding feature. Playing around with this is enough to get me interested in LOTRO for a while. There are a few min/maxing things I want to do and then I want to try some of the harder solo mobs in game again. Reading the Warden forums a bit it sounds like it’s possible to get some really good stat combos with the new relics and some new items (for example >9,500 health).

On the other hand:

I hate some of the stuff that you have to pay for with Turbine Points and I hate that the Tier 9 stuff is available to older players but I can’t get it. One of the best Warden runes is an old Tier 9 that I will never be able to get. IMO they should have made a point to make the new stuff better than Tier 9 or they should have made the Tier 9 stuff available at the new Tier 6.

Makes you wonder if those higher tiers will suddenly become available again once Isengard is released and the level cap is raised to 75?

Well. I guess I just got tired of some of the silliness on the normal servers, I took the plunge and reawakened my very very first LOTRO toons on the (formerly) Euro RP server. Yes, some of the RP-stuff is very cringeworthy but I apparently prefer that over Lord shit b0nerz and lulzreaper2. Been spending the last week crafting and grinding out some Deeds cause, man, those guys were not in tip-top shape. Also started out a Burglar and … FUN! I really like how all the different classes are so distinctly different from each other.

So if anyone wants to say howdy it’s:
Ayes (Elf Warden)
Njali (Dwarf Guardian)
Macavity (Man Burglar)
Vengil (Man Hunter)

on Laurelin. (Also available to US and other strange players.)

I recently jumped back in with my mid twenties burglar alt to take a break from my main warden. The burglar was both really fun and very challenging compared to the warden. Granted I was totally out of practice but I think I’ve becomes spoiled by how easy it is to solo a warden.

At this point I have a Warden at level 45 that sort of needs an investment to level further (I’m missing good places to quest), and I’ve started a new Champion that I’m playing together with a friend playing Loremaster, we’re up to level 14 right now. It’s pretty nice to group as a default, I must say.
Both on Landroval.

Did something drastically change with Skirmishes lately? I tried the new Forochel one when I came back on my lvl 52 guardian, and I died 7 times.

The final battle, against the mammoth and the wizard is simply unwinnable.

I exited the game in disgust after my eight defeat, but seriously, I have never had trouble with this - even when they launch attacks to take back the places I took, I got beaten to a pulp

That particular skirmish is devastatingly difficult. I have a level 62 captain (with very nice level 60 gear from raiding the Watcher back in Moria) and I wiped on the first pull somehow on tier 1 at level. Then again, Captains really aren’t impressive solo. I think my minnie would have done better, or the burglar.

Yeah, the new skirmishes are definitely tougher. My warden is pretty damn good at soloing (I used to solo a bit of the level 65 3-man content) but that one was definitely a challenge. It didn’t help that, unbeknownst to me at the time, all of my relics had been unsocketed.

The old skirmishes are still rather easy though. Don’t try Icy Crevasse though, that one is even harder and I died a couple times before getting it.

You really have to be aware of the steam vents and how they buff yourself, your pet and your opponents. I did a bit of a dance to ensure that my pet got max damage whilst my opponents and myself got the healing buff. It was tricky the first time.

Steam…vents? I don’t think I lived to see one of those. Very neat mechanic, but I wish they’d tell you about it somehow in the quest text (or maybe I missed it and they did hint at it).

I think this is the same skirmish that you’re talking about. Go near a steam vent (the little islands of rock on the ice floor) and you’ll notice a buff that increases your healing rate, step away and I think a red buff comes up that increases your damage. The same applies to mobs, so you should try to avoid your enemies having the damage buff since it can really hurt.

All I saw was some “Winds of Forochell” buff - no vents or anything.

And THANKS, I thought I was going crazy with the Ice Crevasse skirmish being so damn hard. Why is it so damn hard? I can solo mobs 3-4 level above me without any issues, with this??

Even the friggin event bear killed me two times…

Raz: Is this your Warden on Laurelin? If you want to hook up again add Vengil or Ayes.

nope, it was on Wy…the other server ;-) Cant remember what I have on Lauralin, but I’ll check it out :-)

Oh alright. I can check if any of my toons on Withywindle are still alive ;-) My Hunter is around your level I think, in Moria.

Both of the new Skirmishes are tough. They’ve given me more trouble then any of the others by far, so you aren’t alone.

I wonder whats up with that - I must admit, it soured me totally on the game for now.

So I just got around to installing this and poked my head in for about 10 min. Is Nimrodel the server I should be using (did NOT search through the close to 2000 posts in this thread to find out)? No idea if I’ll ever get serious but i would like to play through the first 10 or 20 levels of the free content to find out.
