Early on this is definitely true, at least for doing each skirmish once per day for its daily quest. Each skirmish daily awards 4k xps. This is the same at level 65 as it is at 25. At level 25, 4k xps is a ton. Later on it starts to taper off and it makes sense to go back to questing. This is also a good way to start working on your skirmish soldier. For a warden I recommend either a warrior or a sage (I have a sage but kind of wish I’d gone with a warrior instead). You should be able to keep yourself alive easily enough and so you want a soldier that’s going to help you do lots of damage.

P.S. the argument for a sage is that it will do tactical damage which is nice since most of your warden’s damage is common damage. The argument against a sage is that it will stand away from the mobs and therefore, if it gets aggro, the mob will run to the sage and away from the group. It’s easier to get everything grouped up with a warrior. This is good just because both the warrior and sage do AoE damage (but also because it means less running around). Also the warrior is a little bit sturdier for times where it does get aggro.

Also, I don’t really have gear (all of my warden gear is bound and I can’t craft any of it personally) but I do have lots of advice as I’ve played quite a bit of warden. Let me (Gaffyn) know if you have any questions at all. At least after this weekend – I’ll be out of town.

I can help you out there…well at least with non-spear/javelin weapons, and with the shields, jewelry and tailoring. Can you send me hides or minerals (I think it’s gold at that level for jewelry…ok on the metal ore though)? (Brakkis is fine, I’ll just stick them in the shared storage for my crafters).

My current conundrum:

RoI is in about 2 months. I’m excited about it and having a lot of fun building up my character again. Working on relics, jewelry, armor all makes sense as a lot of that will still be usable with RoI and there’s not a huge cost.

However I’ve got at least 50g worth of items that I could use to improve my Legendary Items and I’m not sure I should use them. Burning a few scrolls of empowerment will only slightly improve stats, for example, or I could sell those for around 15g each on the AH. I could make a few new 2nd agers with symbols I have but those will take a long time to level up, etc., and the symbols would also sell well.

I’m thinking I should just go greedy and make a buck but the powergamer in me wants to burn all my items even if they’re of minimal value.

We have anyone who’s a jeweler at the T6 level who could make me a second age runestone for my RK? I’d buy one of those symbols off of you to trade around and get one made for me if I could for my guy. I’m not a power gamer by any means but my current main weapon is long in the tooth and in need of a replacement!

I think my focus over the next two months will be getting my RK better equipped (I’m still using a lot of the gear I got in Moria, and am needing to really join some PUGs and maybe adventure with StGabe and eightball for some extra fun). My guard alt will be the other focus. He’s been a ton of fun so far, and I like crafting with him.

Maybe everyone has done this but make sure you do everything in Volume 3. There are some great rewards, including a level 65 2nd age item (secondary item, not main weapon unfortunately).

I got to group a little with Eightball a little last night and we discussed how nice it would be to have an RK along to do a bunch of the 3 man dungeons. :-) Unfortunately I won’t be around this weekend but next week it would be great to find some time to group up. I’d particularly like to try out Northcotton Farms and Stoneheight.

Last night, as it was getting late, I decided to do a run on 2.6.8 to see if I’d get lucky and nab a Cloak of Shadow and Flame. And I got it!

I’m in. Next week I’ll be around and we’ll take them all on.

Volume III was fun as well, with a lot of great rewards to pick up on (including that level 65 LI secondary item!)

Anyone play on Landroval? Couple of us have a small (tiny) guild there. I started playing recently and hit level 25. I never lasted that long in previous attempts but it seems like they added a lot of positive changes to the game so I am getting more mileage this time around.

Ok, here’s a maybe dumb question, but I’m a bit confused. I have a LOTRO account, that’s been inactive since, um, 2007. Is there any way to reactivate it as a F2P account, or would I have to resub?

You should be able to just log in with your old account.

Thanks. Though…I just noticed if you install it the launcher uses Pando. I generally loathe Pando, but do any of y’all playing LOTRO have any issues with it?

I have a 65 on landroval that i sort of have ignored recently in favor of the qt3 nimrodel clan. also because nimrodel generally is not empty like it used to be (one nice side effect of the f2p changes).

St gabe, any advice for a newly 65 warden who basically just solo’d the whole time not worrying about deeds, gear, etc? Are there some virtues that are must haves? Is there some gear that doesn’t require constant grind but is still worth it? Was going to wait until isengard to get xp for volume 3 so I thought I could work on other stuff in the meantime.

There is only 1 true server: Nimrodel.

Switch my precious…

so I jusdt got the 12 month $99 VIP… I have pre-ordered Isen (25% XP bonus) and I bought the LOTRO store 25% bonus item. Do they all stack?

Rest XP is automatic… then if I use my 2 different 25% XP bonus items do they all stack?

Kinda feeling like checking this out but as noted above, 1) I’m not a fan of Pando–can it be eliminated after downloading the game, or is it needed for patches? If the latter, can it be set to not suck up bandwidth all the time?; 2) I’m kind of baffled with all the payment choices. I’d like to work on my existing characters, so I’m gathering I’d have to subscribe? Does subscribing (I guess at what, fifteen a month?) get you full access, or is their more you need to buy? I can’t really find a lot of clear info on the site.

I haven’t had any issues with the Pando. Wasn’t really aware of it really.

If you’re not sure what to pay for maybe you should just play a few days for free to get a sense of how things work now. Once you are in the game you can browse the store. Then you can decide what you want, and based on that find the best price to get it. Because they don’t have an extrernal version of the store you pretty much have to log in to see all the pricing.

Hope that helps a bit. There are always people asking in OOC and advice about payment packages as well so it’s obviously not that clear on the website.

I am, currently running around with a friend of mine (Champion/Loremaster), and we’re both level 21 (and guild-less). Add Cinvariel if you want.

  1. Install the game.
  2. Uninstall Pando.
  3. Profit!

You don’t need Pando to play, the game doesn’t seem to use Pando to update. I’ve been Pando-free since November.

A text about Virtues here. I personally don’t swear by it, but the Virtue Finder Tool on a linked page there is pretty damn awesome.

A few questions, then.

  1. Are some Warden Fist skills/gambits Tactical attacks or do they also use Might for determining hit and damage and crits? I’m thinking about Goad, War-Cry, Desolation etc. Ie, is there any point with Elven Medium Armor as a Warden or are they just for Minstrels? I have to admit I love Fist Gambits as shouting monsters to death never gets old.

  2. Some ppl have white name labels and the text “Roleplaying”. How do I get that?

Nix, I have an alt who can make them. E-mail Daeleb.

Have to look at the mat requirements, but generally you need 5 legendary fragments, 2 mithril infused ingots (or 1 mithril flake, which makes 3 ingots), and a symbol of celebrimbor.

You can either buy the symbol, or you can get one skirmishing…even the solo skirms. About 1000 skirmish marks, plus either 1 superior third mark (gotten in a 3 man skirmish like Library), or 5 third marks (which you can get in solo runs).

I think this is right (doing from memory)…open your social panel. Under the who tab, you can see some options in the top left; anon and I think roleplaying is there, too. Check the box, and there you go.
