My LIs are at max DPS having used all the crystals of empowerment possible. Some legacies are not at max power though. Still, they might remain useful.

There is sure to be a replacement grindfest, it’s just not obvious to me yet. Or, more likely, a mithril coin pay fest.
I checked out how it works and have since converted my Warden’s LIs.
- So you need to go to a room in Rivendell on the second floor and talk to some NPC to get a base lvl 45 LI. There is now only one type. No 1st, 2nd, 3rd Age tiers.
- When you reforge it, it scales automatically up to your level. This costed me over 15 gold. (to get to 130)
- Then you go to these bookcases in the same room to find all your classes traceries which are the new legacies and barter for them using the new items. This is the part where the latest content is required to get the best versions. I was able to barter for the incomparable light blue tier level 121 from the items I got via appraisal of my classic ILs.
- You can apply six traceries to the legendary weapon and class item
- But wait there’s more, in an adjacent room there’s 3 more non-class specific bookshelves for 3 other categories that can be applied to your legendary.
- And after affixing all those, you are NOT done yet. This took me a while to figure out, but you have to drag the legendary item onto the flame icon on the item screen to open the Enhancement rune panel (no other way to access it AFAIK). From here you drag Rune Enhancements onto the traceries, power words, etc to level them up. All of mine started at the base power of 400 with a cap of 449. I was able to get all of them to 430 and about half of the rest to 440. The thing here is the power levels stay constant even if you replace the traceries in the slot, etc. (you can simply override the existing slot, or remove/reclaim with a scroll that can be barted)
In conclusion, actually this is a way better system, since you can pick and choose exactly what you want without the RNG of leveling up LIs in order to find what you want, and the new legendries are actually much more powerful. I fast traveled to West Gondor and took down a roving threat in under 10 seconds afterwards. My DPS is much higher now.
Although I wonder if I am overlooking something, but basically you’ll only need to replace traceries with better versions to increase your ILs power, and increase the power levels via rune enhancements, which once maxed out, are done. That’s it.
The DPS increase for my burglar is huge! Even with an old legendary that was completely under-developed.
I did the same thing.
Now, where do you get more Ancient Script?
And what about people that didn’t have old LI’s to appraise? The answer is instances if you’re lucky. Until February, when the rest of the system is put in place. That’s the problem here.
Yeah, no clue about that. I have no idea.
I suppose if you didn’t already have fully leveled LIs ready to appraise, and even trash ones gave a lot of value even, you might be shit out of luck?
I hit the cap on ancient script several times (10,000) after just two appraisals not even from my prime LIs. Not sure if I lost anything but I quickly tried to spend it all.
On two characters so far I was able to max out everything I could. It does make me wonder how the new system works with lower level characters in progression.
But generally, if you understand the level 100 LI panic, it’s real and it sucked. Made Gondor zone mandatory for the quests awards and barter power alone. Not the mention the grinding for scrolls. This changes that, completely…as far as I know.
So almost all legacies carry over wholesale to traceries (BTW I hate this arbitrary term switch, because is traceries even a word?).
For Burglar and Warden,
Straight up Bleed Damage and Light Damage is gone. Literally; the two most potent. I am not complaining though since my DPS is now through the roof for some reason
.
Yes, but it seems to be related to stonework, not smithing:
Although I guess you could stretch the 2nd definition to cover this use.
I never understood the original LI system, so maybe this will be an improvement if I pick the game up again. Which I will. At some point. Lifetime sub guilt is real. Stop looking at me!
I can say it looks like a huge improvement. You can pick and choose your weapon stats provided you have the resources. No RNG anymore.
The original system was esoteric as fuck and you needed to grind specific quests daily. It was a nightmare. (and of course I opted out and just progressed with sub-par LIs anyways because fuck that!)
The incredible thing is, my classic LIs are now inventory trash. I can’t sell them. I can’t break them down for resources. I literally have to just delete them AKA leave them by the road side.

Anyone have any current experience with the legendary servers? Got a bunch of days off in a row, and the idea of going back to a non-faceroll LOTRO and playing the original content is appealing to me for some reason. But not if it’s just a ghost town.
If you missed the Black Friday sale (like I did), the LOTRO Marketplace has War of the Three Peaks expansion content on sale for 50% off and Minus Morgul expansion content at 75% off. Sadly the newest expansion, Fate of Gundabad, is still full price.
Still, you can nab the base editions of both Three Peaks and Minus Morgul for $10 each, and that nets you all the quest, instance and mission content of both along with the Stout Axe Dwarf race and an extra character slot to create said dwarf.
Nice, snagged Minas Morgul, thanks!

I do - they are pretty nice. For some reason, its only on the legendary servers, that there is an option to increase the difficulty of landscape combat.
That means, before level 10, in your starting area after the tutorial area, you can talk to a ranger and set your preferred landscape difficulty. Dungeons and instances are unaffected.
You get increased money and xp, and the monsters are much tougher.
Oh - I choose the slow one. Its still plenty fast. The fast server has 200 x xp or some crazy such enhancement, and pretty much no players.

Seriously? I guess it’s time to log in and check this out.
I built my “main” lvl 127 Burg around bleed damage. Maybe blunt DPS increase will compensate, but bleed is how I kind of defined my play style for a long time.
There is still Keen Strike bleed damage, but the general one is gone with the new LI system.
So guys I’m a bit lost and could use some help. I figured I’d continue the story/book quests as we discussed above, but the next quest, Volume 1, Book 8, Chapter 1: The Flickering Flame, has enemies that are way too tough for me, and I’m not sure I can do it. I’m a level 52 hunter so I might be missing something and am unsure what to do next.
I was questing in the Misty Mountains before this. Should I keep doing that instead? Any advice would be apprciated. Thank you.
At lvl 52?
Get your ass to Moria.
Misty Mountains has quests only up to like lvl 45. (40-45)
Technically you should be able to clear all of book 1 at lvl 50. (original level cap). The final book 1 quests are in Eregion prior to Moria (Book 2)
Is there a specific way to get to moria? Usually I’ve been given a quest to go to the next area. Also all these dudes I’m running into have way, way more health than me and I’m barely damaging them. I wonder if I’m doing something wrong.

I found myself in a similar situation, but at a lower level than you Brian, so I went straight to Gwingris, the first town in Eregion and followed the quests for that area that eventually led to Moria.
Being the level you are, you can skip Gwingris and the next few settlements in Eregion and you can start the pre Moria quests directly by talking to the Dwarf just outside the Moria zone, which is right above the Echad Dunann settlement in Eregion.
Getting to Eregion, which is the gateway to Moria can be tricky.
There are two ways I know of.
The hard and confusing way is through the valley of giants (not recommended)
The easy way is to follow the Bruinen (river) south until you hit a fishmens cabin, then cross the river and follow a path that goes up.
As far as enemies, you should be above there level? Maybe it is your gear?
