Yes. The epic will take you south through Hollin. If you’re above level 50, though, just go straight south, all the way down the road, and talk to the dwarf. You’ll get you first New legendary and Moria.
Well, I tossed down some money for VIP and have been trying Treebeard the last few days. Unfortunately, it seems about as half-assed as everything SSG does. They just added some hp and damage to the landscape mobs and left everything else exactly as-is in the current game. Instances are a total faceroll. My understanding is that you can pretty much solo everything up to and possibly including T3 raids. Unlike WoW Classic, they’ve apparently made no effort to tweak any content to make it credible.
That said, just noodling around in SoA-land is still pretty fun and nostalgic, but I think I’m probably only good for this one subscription.
Just an observation / fun fact.
@scharmers in this thread used Hollin which is the Westron (common / men tongue) term for the region.
The original name and name still used on the LOTRO map is still Eregion which is the Sindarin (common Elvish).
I also like that region in the game and recommend playing through the quests there because it is “on the path of the fellowship.”
Also I suspect it might be a major region in the upcoming Amazon series since Eregion was an Elven stronghold that was ultimately destroyed by Sauron. It’s where the rings of power were forged by Celebrimbor & Sauron.
Question for current/recent players:
I took advantage of the 50%/75% sales to pick up War of the Three Peaks and Minas Morgul for $10 each. I debated buying the $30 version of War of the Three Peaks because it came with your choice of Large Carry-All, but in the end decided that alone wasn’t really worth $20 more (the rest of the Deluxe content didn’t really interest me). Now I think I may have screwed up.
When I look in the LOTRO points store (via the character selection screen) I don’t see anything under the Carry-Alls category. The category is there, there just isn’t anything to purchase with LOTRO points despite the wiki claiming that small/medium/large carry-alls should be 1295/1495/1995 LOTRO points respectively. While I don’t really need one now, having crafting, task item and/or essence/tracery carry-alls would be beneficial at some point in the near future. I assume they occasionally go on 20% off sale like the other account items in the LOTRO store?
Since I just purchased Three Peaks and Minas Morgul maybe the carry-alls will show up in the store after I update my client with the new content?

Try logging onto a specific character and access the store from in-game. For some reason, there are a lot of things that don’t show up when you access the store from the character selection screen. Carry-alls are account-wide (on 1 server) so you can pass them around.
Yeah, I think that’s right. The only thing that shows up in the store from character selection are things that apply to the account and aren’t restricted to one server: quest packs/expansions, inventory slots, character slots…like that.
Anything that’s an item in the world (and is therefore stuck to the server that you bought it on) has to be bought from a logged-in character.
Alright made it to the Walls of Moria and got the Epic Volume II quest from the dwarf. Looks like I made it. Thanks y’all!
Wow the music here is really nice.
That worked, thank you! It is kind of crazy how expensive carry-alls are, basically you’re looking at $20 worth of regular price LOTRO points for one large carry-all. Think I will hold off for now until carry-alls go on sale, or I may pick up the LOTRO Starter Bundle from the LOTRO Market if they put it on sale for 25%-50% off at some point, as it includes both a small crafting carry-all and the High Elf Race among other goodies, making it a decent deal even at the full $10 price.
Congrats! Moria has been much improved over the years from how it was when it was first released. I very much enjoyed my second run through with my current main character (Slainte - Champion - Arkenstone) but even with all the improvements I found it to be just a bit too long to the point where when I finally emerged into the light of day on the other side it was literally one of the most impactful moments in all my years of playing the game. I suppose that’s by design though. =)
Have fun, and good luck!
But Moria will be Moria. Weeks without sunlight.
I sort of hate the Durin’s Way and Waterworks, and try to bypass those areas as much as so I can cut down on the sprint to the First Hall.
Luckily, Lothlorien provides a bit of an out, leveling wise. You still want to progress the Moria epic for that sweet skill point buried within.
But going back in, I never did after the first toon. Once I’m out, I’m out.

Could you explain how a carry-all works please?

One carry-all can collect several different types of related items, such as crafting ingredients, task items, essences. It reduces multiple storage slots for those items into one item that takes up only one slot.
Then you can pass that carry-all around to all of your characters who are on the same server via shared storage at the vault (or perhaps via mail, I never tried that). All of the items in the carry-all travel with the bag. Very handy if you have alts with different crafting skills.
I’m on a goat!! ;)
Back after a break, really enjoying Moria despite how confusing it is. I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

You know, as long as the interface stays hidden that game actually does hold up pretty dang good. Though I’ve always had issues with the character animations. But the amount of stuff they are putting into the f2p pack… wowzers.

Is there a carryall I can buy for task items? That stuff takes up the lion’s share of my bag space

Are any of you playing together? I know there were kinships on Landroval back in the day, and some people have mentioned Arkenstone. The legendary servers also sound interesting. I think I still have my original characters I’ve never transferred from Nimrodel that would need to move somewhere, and would sure prefer to play with folks from here rather than take a chance with random LotR guild 123.
I personally prefer solo play myself.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

There apparently was because I have one.
But I don’t see it in the store. I think it might have been a special promotion or whatnot a few years ago.
