dwolfe:
I for one think it’s cool to hear of ye olden days of hardcore grinding ;-)
I know I’m bitching a bit but the thing is Withywindle is a new server, opened when F2P launched in Europe and there’s just not that many players in my level range and those that are, are playing in bigger kins. (We’re down to two active players on the Qt3 kin now.) I’d love to play with others, it’s just that so far I’ve never ever gotten one single response when asking on LFF.
Thanks for the Misty Mountain tip, that was where I went before I logged out.

Isn’t the Seven Swords one a small fellowship that can be 3-manned? I have that one now to do. It can be tough when you’re in a small kin I’m sure. I think in that case you might want to establish a relationship with a larger kin. Especially since custom chats are supported in LOTRO.

Honest I don’t want to ignore it at all. I’d love to play some of the instances that require a fellowship or more. I think of the Tomb of Elendil, which we got some of us here together for and had a blast, or the Fornost instance. Is there a better way to find groups for some of the mid-level content? Finding groups for GB or GA was fairly easy, and it sounds like end game grouping isn’t as hard either, but beyond spamming the LFF channel I wish there was an easier way!

Goblin-Town! What an awesome place. Awesome design, awesome music and goblins that are awesome (and pretty easy to kill) too. Just to continue with my whining about finding others to do Fellowships with - at more or less peak hours we were two (2, dos, zwei, två) players in the whole of Misty Mountains.
Seven Swords is a Small Fellowship, quite correct. There’s just no way I’ll be able to solo it with my on-level Hunter though.
I decided instead that my participation in Volume 1 ended with me defeating Khamûl in Helgerod and that Misty Mountains and Eregion are the places this elf from Rivendell wants to hang out. Until heading into the Dark Pit of Moria.

It is hard to find mid-level groups even if you join a gooc/glff channel, because leveling is fairly rapid, and even a 4 level difference between members means some members are barely helping in an instance. There’s no good way around it, currently.
My only advice is to find friends to form a static group with (esp with an alt) or find a large kin where some of the level capped people might be working on alts.

So. After getting slowly burned out on the slogging through Angmar and the Epic quest, yesterday everything changed when I defeated Mordirith (and finished Shadows of Angmar!), levelled my LI to 20 and the final two missing pages of my Legendary Books dropped, all within the timespan of ten minutes. Especially the page drops were pretty astounding. I was hunting turtle beaks in the nice, cozy atmosphere of Angmar, when I came upon a Hillman fort. A sentry was walking out the front gate so I naturally shot him dead. Yay! Final page of A Shot in the Dark. As I was thinking about which Bard to head to I saw a goblin roaming around and ended his misery. Yay! Final page of my remaining book. I have no idea of how many baddies I’ve slain without getting those pages over the last two weeks and now they drop within one minute of each other.
As this is my first character in LOTRO I’ve changed my mind and decided to follow the whole of Volume I of the Epic quest. Thank the gods I’ve a hunter so I never spend any time travelling from A to B and back again.
LotRO down for the day, I guess. Turbine posted about their tech difficulties on their Facebook page.

All I ask is that they get it back up by this evening so I can enjoy! Actually just started into Moria, and am looking forward to exploring it.
But isn’t traveling there and back again the whole point?
No, wait, that was the Hobbit.
OK, hit L44 yesterday, been trying to follow the LI discussion here (thanks guys!), but having never gone through the process before it all reads a little complex no matter how you explain it. Thus quick confirmation checks:
-
I get my first LI by following the main story quest, should hit it about level 45?
-
Given that this is my first time to 45, and my first LI, and I don’t have a heap of spare ones hanging around, I should pretty much just level it asap? I don’t need to worry about reforging so much. Playing a warden, so pretty much looking for a dps boost as most warden LI powers are merely ok.
-
I should immediately start looking for L51 LI’s on the AH? Are those 2nd age ones?
Thanks.

You can get the class items with skirmish points now. Check a skirmish vendor.

2000 or 4000 skirmish points…takes…quite a while to get it.

And … there’s … FOUR of them. So, somewhere between 6-10.000 skirmish marks. For one Trait. Thanks, but I’ll just pass until I happen to find a group wanting to go to Carn Dûm and Urugarth. I came close on Sat where I happened on a PUG (see, I’m learning!) that ran Battle of Aughaire, which was tons of fun, even if completely uncoordinated and just generally chaotic.
And if they, as dwolfe wrote, is going to make Carn Dûm and Urugarth Classic skirmishes soon then all the better.
I have to say that the story after Shadows of Angmar but still Volume I is very well written. Even if Annuminas is a mess and why they designed it so you have to run through (or swim around) the main enemy force to reach the friendly camp is completely beyond me. I can see the whole “fighting in the streets” appeal, but no one seems to be playing it. And I can more or less promise that I’ll never play through the whole of Volume I again. Maybe with a Warden. I really love finding all the out of the way places in LOTRO but going between northeastern Angmar, Rivendell, Tinnudir and Annuminas like you do just to advance the quest isn’t THAT fun.

Its almost like they designed it to be a timesink :-D
But yeah, that last part had me screaming a bit as well, even on my warden.
So a slight defense here, and I agree with what you said, but Vol I was created at the tail end of the first generation MMO. It was all about weird vectors to keep people in game. That of course has changed. Turbine has slowly been going through each reigon and cleaning up the vectoring, how this will effect the main quest…who knows.
Now everyone go play the REAL Turbine MMO and go play DDO. Much more exciting things going on in that game :)

Well, there’s honestly no need to defend anything since Turbine gives the option to jump in or out of the Epic quest where and whenever we feel like it. I’m doing since I
a) Want to see how Amarthiel’s story ends.
b) Want that nice horsey.
c) Love the Evendim setting (apart from the logistics). Especially that pleasant music that I think is exclusive to that area.
That there’s stuff that needs updating - absolutely. Almost none of the equipment I’ve seen that are exclusive to the Factions are worth getting a Kindred status for, as an example. Updating those would probably mean more people being willing to grind and fellowship in those areas.
Check out the event coming out in a few weeks. Very different from anything I’ve seen in an MMO.
That is all I can say.

Ok, I just about finished Goblin Town with the exception of the Great Goblin and his nearby minions. There is some serious running around and back and forth travels in that goblin infested pit. Much of it is soloable for a high 40’s with the exception of the cave trolls and the final instance.
There’s occasional 65’s who are in there grinding or doing the quests for some reason (deed’s or rep?), but even hooking up with a level 65 it’s still several hours to complete that thing.
Now if only I can get some fellowships in eastern Angmar.
