I need to go back to Goblin Town an grind a bit for Rivendell rep, but if you catch me on anytime (Cindalin the RK) I’d take a break from Moria and come finish some quests in Angmar with you. I just couldn’t take the bleak landscape anymore, and as much fun as the epic quest story is, I needed something new!

If we’re thinking about the same thing, the items are posted on the AH for ~1 gold each. I ran Carn Dum to get 2 of them, and then just bought the other 2 off the AH. Much easier than farming thousands of skirmish marks. And if you’re patient, you should be able to get an Angmar instance fellowship together on the weekends.

Both Hammet and I are on a new server, where those arent there yet, unfortunately. So, its still incredibly hard to get those, even though it has been made easier

And hey, WARDENS OF THARBAD CAN BUY A KINSHIP HOUSE ON WITHYWINDLE NOW!

Too bad there’s just two of us still playing =)

hmm… I actually think I have about 14 gold right now…all we need then is a few more gold to make sure we’ve paid a few weeks ahead :-D

Thanks to Datt, I was able to complete my jewellry crafting quest in Angmar with my level 10 minstrel. The xp from the quest gave me enough xp to almost finish level 11 (basically half of 10 and almost all of 11). Awesome!

Thanks for the advice on the LI… once you get one, it all starts to make sense, but I could not get my head around it until I could see how it worked. Just sad to find out that my warden LI is a javelin… sigh, L52 before I get a main hand weapon.

I just checked on the AH and one of the four items were for sale for 8 gold, 10 gold buyout. And surprise! Not one single bid.
And since I just splurged over 5 gold on my first Kinship Horse (the Mathom House) and have been buying hides like crazy I was down to 3 gold.

Got back into playing my Warden again, doing PUG Fellowships in Dol Dinen for two nights. I really love my Warden and have mixed impressions of PUG:s. Some obviously know what they’re doing and some just run around attacking anything that pops into their sights. It’s too bad so few of the knowledgeable ones are willing to communicate and lay down some basic tactics though. I’d wager most players would be willing to at least try to adhere to whatever tips they get.

This night we had a group of four, a Warden, A Hunter, a Lore-Master and a Captain and we kicked major ass on pretty much anything that came our way. We had one wipe where the Hunter pulled the-gods-know-how-many orcs and trolls on top of what we already were fighting. Then the Capt said I had pulled two trolls which was BS since I honestly can’t help when they spawn on top of me. I quickly abandoned any thought of primary tanking since both the Captain and the Hunter were four levels above me and intentionally drawing mobs to them. At least I think the Hunter did it intentionally but he might just be ignorant. I told him not to fire when I go into Ambush mode (the easiest and fastest way for a Warden to get initial aggro) but just like every DPS I’ve teamed up with he never listened. Then the Capt was upset after I had Ambushed a Defiler that was mezzed which was correct, I saw the mez and forgot to move to cancel the Ambush, instead I switched target which doesn’t work. And bingo! We had a tactic! Let the LM mez the Defilers while we kill everyone else. Everything went smoothly after that. Especially since I just concerned myself with using a nice rotation instead of trying to hold aggro away from the trigger-happy hunter.

And I admit to being totally in love with the Wall of Steel gambit. 1-2-1-2. 4!

But ye gods, how tired I am of all the idiotic acronyms that everyone just HAVE to use to show how cool they are. “4/6 for SG. Need CC + dps.”
I mean, it’s not like you’re pressed for time when you stand around waiting for more players to join and pretty much all the LOTRO group instances has a g somewhere in it. GA, GB, SG, BG, GS and what-have-you. I’ve taken to always asking on the global channel what they stand for. Even if I already know. And then asking “Well why didn’t you write that then?”
Which invariably gets me a long-ass answer. So they have time, they just want to keep the riff-raff out.

I am levelling my second toon – this time a warden. He is currently lvl 10.

I spent a number of days in Bree with my first toon. Is there some other place I can level my man warden for the same levels I would have levelled in Bree? Would like to try a different place.

thanks

I actually thought about this the other day but, this may show how shallow I am, just watching the promo video and looking at screenshots put me off. It just looks like ass. I was thinking it might be a fun way to learn some 3.5ish concepts (admittedly changed around for MMO friendliness) but…shudder…even free-to-play I don’t know. I’ve got so many other games sucking up my time as it is.

Unfortunately it appears that you have to spend at least some of those levels in Bree, but you should be able to get to uh … crap, I just did this … 15ish? before comitting to ~15-18 in Bree. But those 3 (somewhere in that range) are inescapable simply due to the Story.

Then it diverges again into uh, Lone Lands and North Downs? Or you can tool around Bree for another handful of levels - but yeah, you will be in Bree for about 3 levels in the upper teens.

DDO stuff

Tried it, have several alts, enjoyed the combat (Priest mace power yo) but … it’s really just running dungeon after dungeon, often repeatedly. The best part was being able to do the outdoors stuff, but there’s not really all that much to those zones, that I recall. However the lack of viable exploration and focus on the dungeon running (yes yes I know it’s in the name but this is the LOTRO - the realized, large, hugely explorable world game! - thread) ends up being a turnoff fast.

We’re getting a large influx of WoW refugees on our server Elendilmir. In the last two weeks alone my kin has picked up 10 ex-WoW players in our time zone. I wonder if this is indicative of a larger exodus from WoW post-Cataclysm.

OK, quick geek out about the storyline. I ran into Smeagol for the first time last night. How cool! A random quest chain in the middle of no where introduces a key character… how totally cool! I admit did not see it coming, although in retrospect the quest chain leading up to it did give a bunch of hints. However while I was reading the text, it just did not click who I was meeting until he crawled out of the water, at which point I was almost jumping up and down with geeky enthusiasm. As I am only a Tolkien geek in so much as I love the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, I sometimes forget what world I am playing in when i am in cold northern reaches never explored in those books, grinding basically meaningless quests.

Yup, same here. Even if I am even more geeked out with reading and playing the various MERP modules covering most of the areas. For instance, The Forsaken Inn should be right on the other side of The Last Bridge in the Trollshaws, not where it is now. However, almost all MERP modules covered T.A 1640 which is 1400 years earlier than LOTRO.

And that Gollum quest is totally awesome, especially since you don’t see it coming when you pick up the quest. I’m having some trouble surviving alone in Goblin-Town with my Hunter or I would totally go to Gollum’s Cave.

About your LI, btw. As long as you have levelled up your javelin to 10, reforged and gotten the quest to go back to Moria - you can. I know it says lvl 51 for Hunter and Warden but I went there at 48 and got my second LI, no problem.

One of my top favorite quests in LOTRO!

Is the free-to-play worth it if you don’t intend to spend ANY money on the game?

yes…

I think you can play f2p without spending anything up to Moria. You can purchase the expansions using Turbine Points that you accumulate as you play but the expansions cost quite a bit and would require a hellacious amount of grinding.

However there is a LOT of content available F2P as you move through the lower levels and if you spend your Turbine Points judiciously you can have a great experience.

As Marcin says, Bree is inescapable for the Epic storyline stuff but the Huadh Lin and Rath Teraig areas of Ered Luin can get to you to 16 fairly quickly. (They are actually more dull than Breeland but good for a change of pace if you haven’t played through them yet.) Rath Teraig actually has a hill with a ton of elites on it that can probably get you most of the way to 17 as well.

In The Shire, the Brockingborings and Bridgefields areas can get you from 10-15 but I’m not sure if there is anything in The Shire to get you from 15-20.

Sounds like you can do everything there is in the game if you are willing to shell out $10, once you hit level 20 or so (and invest the time, of course). From another thread: http://lotro.mmorsel.com/2011/01/realizing-free-to-play-dream.html (and the rest of the site has valuable tips as well).

I still play WoW as my ‘main’ MMO, but that link above is what keeps me from looking too seriously at any other MMO right now (ie., Rifts) - if I burn out on WoW, I can play LOTRO to my hearts content.
