Things for you to look forward to:

Bree, Weathertop, your first time entering Rivendel, Evendim in the sunset, the gates to Moria and many of the sights inside it and many more.

The ambiance of LoTRO and the community is why I’m a lifer there. It’s like a little vacation every time I play.

This was the main problem with City of X; it got boring to go from zone to zone and have it be relatively unchanged. That’s why I was one of the few that liked the Hollows and Faultline :P

first time in Rivendell

That was when I quit playing the game the first time. Rivendell itself was/is gorgeous, but seeing all the key Fellowship folks just stand there Poser-model like, like WoW NPCs do was very discouraging.

Not sure why there than any other place. Maybe because it was Rivendell, one of the gorgeous movie locations that was so vibrantly depicted. At least the Shire has all those Nosey/Hungry hobbits wandering around constantly, giving it a little pseudo-life.

Weathertop is much more impressive in Lotro than the movies.

I’ve tried to take the classic route. That’s why I rolled a hobbit.

Shire > Old Forest > Barrow Downs > Bree > Lone Lands > Trollshaws > Rivendell

Although I had to do some late North Down and Evendim quests after Lone lands to be more level appropriate for a lot of the Trollshaws quests. (40)

This is going to sound dumb as heck, so bear with me and feel free to pop my balloon: I was in the LOTRO F2P beta events way back in July or whatever. Since I primarily play WoW, I never dedicated any serious time to LOTRO.

Out of morbid curiosity, this thread, and sites like lotro.mmorsel.com I’ve become curious once again and decided to look back into it. I fired up the game, and was a bit confused because the only server I could select was ‘Bullroarer’ which the notes were telling me was a test/beta server. I dug up some of my old beta-invite emails, and it dawned on me that I was running ye old beta client. So, I’m uninstalling that and will be putting on the real deal.

However, those old beta emails came with some codes for Turbine Points. Hey, let’s see if they work?

My account now claims that I have 10020 TP. I’m assuming this is not real, and is somehow tied to my ‘beta-ness’ and will magically disappear once I get the correct client installed. Right? Otherwise, I may need to go round up a $10 Moria expansion pack and do the whole VIP-for-a-month unlock frenzy and go to town…

JACKPOT!

Note that I’ve only played three or so skirmishes, but of those, I think I actually like Trouble in Tuckborough the best. Most likely because there’s no stress to it.

Finally got a PUG and did Tomb of Elendil. What a rocky ride. The whole party kept dying except for the two hobbits. A hobbit warden and myself. We killed the turtle in the first try as the sole survivors. I guess it helped that 1 player was level 60 and another was in the high 50’s.

Okay, as expected those 10000 points are tied to Bullroarer alone - once I logged into a ‘live’ realm, they went bye bye. In fact, I don’t even have the 250 TPs for being a new account - I’ll have to create a new one. Haha.

250 for new account? bahuh…

I never got that.

I think im going to download this again, havent been playing Eve much anyway.

Forochel (the whole region), the Tall Statue in Evendim, the immense depths of Moria, the fields of Eregion. Some fabulous scenic destinations in LOTRO.

I love the locations tied to specific events in the books. Apparently the arguing trolls from The Hobbit exist in game somewhere, but I have not seen them.

(except the old forest - hated that zone! There is a reason Bombadil got cut from the movie)

They’re in the Trollshaws, in a little valley heading North from the main road. Not to hard to find, although i think there are some nasty beasts on the path.

There’s also a quest to find them and to talk to Bilbo about them.

Tomorrow’s Turbine Tuesday special is 50% off the riding skill. Despite my plan to only spend Turbine points on quest packs, I still have two characters without the riding skill so I think I will break down and shell out the points.

Is it not possible to get a mount without using points?

For subscribers, there’s a quest at level 20 to get the riding skills.

While mounts themselves aren’t points only, the riding skill is for free to play people.

Been traveling past few days, just catching up on the whole thread. Rightbug - thanks for the detailed reply on Alts, you’ve convinced me to rollup some other characters. After reading the rest of the discussion, I’m now staring at the Character Creation screen for a Dwarven Warden :>.

Chris

Whoops. Meant I was looking at Dwarven Guardian. Tried to switch to Warden and find out that Dwarves can’t be Wardens. Too bad.
