Ack, I sold my shield, silly I know but I forgot I was using a 2H and I thought it was a lower tier quest reward shield. Now I am in need of extra protection for my 59 Capt. Can anyone make nice level 58 or 60 shields?

I have some mats like brimstones and shards but no ores for that level.

Sure, send a tell to my main (SM Metalsmith) Rashh and I’ll fix you up. Mats won’t be a problem.

Wow the new 6-man instances are brutal. Definitely need some well geared players to achieve success.

Unless you’re kite-healing an instance, you’re better off without a shield.

I agree, cappys should be two-handing all the time.

I seem to remember being tasked to off-tank some beefy adds once or twice as a captain (Rift?). I liked having a shield then. But yeah, normally you’ll be wanting to two-hand your weapon*

  • Sadly, not as dirty as it sounds…

Skirmishes are 20% off this week, btw.

It also looks like they will be running daily specials all through April. The last time they did this they had a day where all expansion packs were 30% off so hopefully we’ll see that again as I need Evendim and Trollshaws and have been waiting for a sale to buy them. Moria is 30% off Saturday (tomorrow) for anyone who doesn’t have it yet.

I did the glacier fortress at tier 2, challenge mode. Even with awesome players who were totally geared up from BG we managed to wipe a couple of times before succeeding. As per usual, the hunter won the piece that was ideal for my captain.

Even at 100% off Moria is a bad deal ;)

Well, the mines part…

Wooo, just ran Fil Gashan for the first time today with a nonstandard group… 2 cappys, 2 LM’s, a Mini, and Champ. It was my first time there so I’m glad we had some people who knew the place, I don’t know how long it would take to figure out the tactic to take down the final boss.

We just chewed the place up with only one wipe when someone pulled some extra sentries and lieutenants.

Ouch.

Yet another reason why you all should be playing DDO…

I would, but its so damn clunky in its UI, and frankly, looks horrid. Or, at least it did a year ago. There arent any great vista’s either, or places to go to explore just for kicks.

Thats what LOTRO does very well, and DDO fails miserably at.

Dungeons and Dragons Online? I saw something about that game the other day and it occurred to me I don’t know much about it. It seems to have slipped completely under my radar. Is it any good?

Not really.

There’s another thread on it here if you want some information about it.

Honestly, SolomonG, I understand who you work for, but still find it bad taste to advertise DDO in the LOTRO thread.

I actually really enjoyed the mines. A really excellent job of creating a unique underground architecture, each of the different sections feeling distinct for the most part. I’m actually a little sad to be back in yet another forest on the other side of the mines, but I’m sure Galadriel and Celeborn will be nice to visit once I get enough rep to talk to them.

Alright, I need to get back in. Taken a couple weeks off to do other things, but now I’m going to be back in tonight I think.

I like the forests just fine, they all have slightly different touches to them as well, but I agree with Nixon that Moria is a work of friggin’ art. Essentially a whole world underground. And it is the mother of all dungeons too. That’s where the idea came from. A party slogging through monsters in an underground labyrinth. So Moria had to be impressive, and varied, in appearance and execution. It delivers.

Sure, after a while, you want to get back into the sunlight again. But if you didn’t…would it really have felt like Moria?

I don’t get the Moria hate, either.

Man, I freaking love LotRO so much. Sure, DDO is nice, but to me LotRO is Turbine’s flagship game and I hope it keeps getting additions and updates for a long, long time. :)

Me too. I want to play a Morgoth raid instance as a Valar when I’m 60 years old, which is probably a reasonable time frame considering the pace that Turbine is updating their Middle Earth playground :)

There is a super ugly anniversary horse available in game right now for anyone who is interested. (Well, I guess it’s not super ugly if you’re a woman but, after this year’s Spring stead, it’s the second horse in a row that looks better suited to the Rose Bowl Parade than Middle Earth.)
