I’m still in too after a month hiatus. Look for me most evenings this week. Cindalin.

I’ve been back playing off and on for a couple of weeks. Having a pretty good time with my Rune Keeper. Someday I have to try to actually get a toon past 40.

This is my standby MMO when I get the urge, and I throw in a few bucks here or there as appropriate (riding and and a quest pack so far). Lots of new stuff coming out right now (Naev, Starfarer, Section 8: Prejudice, Brink) though, so my MMO urge is at an all time low.

I’m still playing regularly but I’m on a different server than you guys.

Same here. I play fairly regularly, but it’s on a couple characters on Meneldor with some buddies of mine.

Dumbshit move #5673: So I make 50 with my guardian, complete the intro Moria quest, you know the one where you get a free Legendary at the end. So I like I have a senior moment or something and pick an axe. A nice two-handed axe…for my guardian. And didn’t realize it until I waltzed to the Forgemaster. There were many Hank Hill “dammits” after that >:(

It’s okay Scharmers, my guard uses a two-handed axe as well. If you’re soloing, you’ll spend almost all your time in overpower mode and the axe will be worth its weight in gold.

I NEVER Overpower. Sure, I can solo mobs just fine without my shield and with Overpower on, but I end up losing way more health even though the mob goes down a little quicker. And I’ve gotten to like being able to take on multiple mobs at will…especially the archtypical sneaky orange mob that wanders up behind you when you’re hammering his brother.

The axe got levelled up and reforged per the quest requirements, was melted down after that. Some of its runes now occupy a nifty guardian belt and I’m on the hunt for a 1H legendary :)

You will be drowning in legendary weapons in no time.

This. Incredibly true. Amazingly half the Orcs in Moria all seem to carry around amazing Legendary weapons! Not that you’ll have a use for 99% of them, but you’ll still find a few!

Finally been making my way out of Moria and going through Lothlorien. It’s pretty. I guess. I dunno. I miss the mines already and elves are not as fun to quest for at all.

I really liked Moria, actually. Moria was high paced; lots of quests, dense mob population, often very small areas to move around in. Lothlorien was kind of the opposite; it was very easy, though. I was quite happy to move to Mirkwood, which was a pretty fun zone.

Aaah, finally hit 65 with my Cappy, now I guess the gear grind awaits. Does anybody have any suggestions on where to find guidance on gear? I know I’ll probably need to collect some medium and light pieces for a healing set but I don’t know whether I should go for stuff in instances or if some of the factions offer stuff that’s better.

I have so much more to explore and I’m already 65, I’ve just started Mirkwood and I haven’t done anything in Enedwaith, not too mention I haven’t even stepped in Dark Delvings or the 16th Hall.

Whoa, that’s a lot of places you haven’t stepped into.
My 65 cappy has the full Barad Gularan set but grinding that has caused me to give up on the game for a while. I’d recommend getting the captain set available from handing in skirmish tokens, superior marks and Helegrod tokens. With the right weapon legacies you can get your ability to heal after combat down to every 8 seconds or so. This is similar to the Dar Narbugund set (which I also have) without having to do that raid over and over- which people no longer do.
All the cool kids are doing the latest raid but by all accounts, you need to load up on armour and jewellery that pumps up your total morale.

Dinged to 63 last night and I’m much in the same place as Super_D, though I’m still working through Lothlorien. With the deadness of most of the Qt3 folk in the Kin, I haven’t had a chance to really explore a lot of the different raids/skirmishes in Moria and elsewhere other then the ones that are easy to get a PUG for (“4/6 for GS Daily. NEEED 2 MOr!”) but would really like to go explore all those other 3/6 and more instances out there that I’ve never even touched!

I hit the level cap yesterday whilst working my way into Mirkwood. Enjoying it a lot more then Lothlorien. And in honor of the accomplishment, Turbine released Update 3 today.

Patch Notes:

Things that are good? Two new Skirmishes, and two new instances. Come on by tonight and join me in trying out the new stuff! Our Kinship has been quiet recently, but I’m trying to be around a bit more often and am always up to help anyone, or join in on any 3-6 man fellowship.

I subbed for a month again, to poke around and see what has changed. They’ve done a lot of good work with general cleanups and class tweaks, with more in the work. Evendim seems to have had some improvement in quests. I haven’t been playing my 65s, but most of the Legendary Item changes sound good, giving the players more control over their items. The UI has been cleaned up a bit. They’ve been adding a ton of new skirmishes and small group instances. Overall I’d say the game is a lot better.

However…

The store has very much become Pay to Win, which is pretty galling when one is already paying a subscription fee. The stat tombs are as ridiculous as ever, there seem to be even more store only consumables, and the only way to recover LI relics is apparently a store bought scroll. In the patch today they’ve also added store exclusive high end relics. Turbine has lied enough over the years that I’m not even angry about them going back on their “we won’t sell top end gear in the store” pledge. I’m just not interested in paying a subscription for a game that wants to double dip so heavily.

I’ve been playing a lot lately since I quit WoW. Got my Rune Keeper up to the mid-20s, and I’d love to get him into the kin if I could ever find someone online :-)

Vis a vis the Store: My goal is to play like the store doesn’t exist as much as is possible. I’ve bought some quest packs and the riding skill for my RK (and I have a bad feeling that I may have to buy some more AH slots and bank space in the future) but thus far I’ve been able to buy everything I need with earned deed TP. I’ve yet to spend any cash on points, and my plan is to try and keep playing for free for as long as possible.

It’s a heck of a deal, really. Since I’m not paying a monthly fee, I don’t feel any particular time pressure to get things done, and I can wait for things I want to purchase until I earn enough points in the game.

Hah, look for me on tonight - Cindalin

Yea, I’m a subscriber, but I’ve not really used the store for anything other then quest packs and a cosmetic item or two. No “pay to win” shopping was needed to get me to the cap or play. I’ve earned and grinded or played my way to what I’ve got for my RK. I’m sure I could have taken shortcuts by buying things for my LI’s, but I’m fine playing through the game to get them to where they are.

If you’re a VIP, you can ignore the store. Seriously. The only things I’ve picked up there were a couple of crafting buffs (to get me through tier 4, I think…I haven’t crafted for a while). And yes, I admit…I bought like two or three stat tomes. (Hangs head in shame). But there’s nothing there that is going to replace hours of grinding in Moria to go from L51 to L55, or teach you how to root and interrupt multiple mobs, or…

Now, if you’re freemium, the store is going to be your expensive friend. I tried freemium after be a subscriber a year ago, and after a month or so of that I just said screw it and reupped.

I have to say, despite all the bad points of the game and the store and whatnot, this is pretty cool…a 2-day player-designed, in-game music festival. One has to think that that’s the kind of thing you hope for when designing massively multiplayer online worlds.
