LOTRO to relaunch as free to play?

Yep. Except for the stat tomes bit. As a VIP, all I’ve bought is more shared storage and slayer deed accelerators — there’s no fun in going back at lvl 50 to kill 160 lvl 30 whatnots for a virtue you want. I did it on my first character, and that was enough.

I’m kind of tempted by $100 for a year of VIP. That seems like a pretty good deal. I doubt I’ll still be playing a year from now, but $8 a month or so is cheap.

I jumped on that deal, even if I haven’t played at all for a few months. Now that we’re all one global happy family you poor miserable sods in the US can join the awesome awesome Qt3 guild: Wardens of Tharbad on Withywindle! Or, more likely, I’ll come crawling over to you on my hands and knees. But should anyone feel like starting afresh on a VERY sparsely populated yet friendly server, head on over and send me a tell. Starless or Arcathlon or Njali.

I have the bug a bit as well, Hammet - But, lets face it, we won’t get the Euro guild up and running, so I’m inclined to jump over to the US guys as well.

I’m kinda tempted to pre-order for the 25% exp bonus. It’ll give me a chance to work through a couple of alts and experience other classes before Isengard comes out, all while making my way down to the last area available right now. Getting close to Dol Guldur here in Mirkwood and all the associated quests there.

that’s a bit silly, I must admit, since I get a lot of great items for pocket slots.

I’m a bit unclear on the Isengard expansion. What does “•Access to the Path of the Fellowship Quest Packs including Trollshaws, Eregion, Lothlórien and Moria plus the Mirkwood Quest Pack as a special bonus” mean? Does that mean I get those quest packs permanently enabled and added to my account?

Evendim is brilliant. It’s completely streamlined as far as quests and quest hubs. I’ve picked up 4 levels in just a few hours of play in Evendim.

From what I’ve read on the LOTRO forums, that’s exactly what it means. The only catch is that it’s the Mirkwood and Moria Quest Packs, and not the full expansions.

The purchase system for this is kinda weird. Like, as near as I can tell it has no actual connection with my LOTRO account, but is some sort of a la carte digital river thing.

I personally have no desire to increase my character’s leveling speed. It seems to me that that just increases the chances that the character is going to out-level the quests in the game. I don’t see how that’s much fun.

I was specifically not going to pre-order because I don’t want my characters to automatically get a 25% xp bonus. If it’s coming from an item I can choose to wear or not, I’d feel much better about that.

yes - You do not have a +25 xp bonus, if you dont want it. It’s only if you equip the item.
