Note: game closer than it looks.
Picking up where we last left off, it was another crazy game against the Rams, with it being tight most the way through.
Following a long field goal, the Cardinals get a long drive going, only for it to go the other way when Bartell jumps what looked to be an easy pass and returns it for a TD. The Cards, however, respond with a 107 yard TD return by rookie D.J. Claytor.
Now, I must stop here and ask: who was it who drafted this cut rookie? Sure, a 62 overall for a halfback - and 12 overall for a return man! - ain’t sexy, but holy shit he’s been quite the weapon for me. Well, thanks for whoever cut him!
Second quarter was back and forth - some long drives, some short ones, and some more Fitzgerald greatness - and we go into the second half 28-21, Rams.
Despite shutting out the Rams in the entire second half, it was plenty tense. Long drives by both teams, with the difference being two interceptions, such as this one where Bulger tries to hit a post in the endzone, but Dansby tips it into the hands of Antrel Rolle. Unfortunately, during the return, Rolle tried to cut back in at one point, and takes a direct shot from an offensive lineman. Result: broken collarbone. Out five weeks. Oh well, at least I’ll have him back in time for the playoffs.
The fourth quarter was all Beanie Wells, with a touch of Fitzgerald. Beanie made one outstanding run after another. Final score: 48-28, Cardinals.
Another great game with Cubit’s Rams; far more tense than the score indicates. Greed cost me my best free safety for five weeks, but damnit, that’s how I play.
Next week, it’s to Carolina to take on Strummer’s Panthers!
