Gah! Will he have a pornstar 'stache and remind you of the guys you know who are basically still in high school, even in their 40s?

Ok, who wants to try to cast this??

I’ll start with Matt Damon as Rick…

And Samuel Jackson as TC, becuase SAMUEL JACKSON IS IN EVERY MOTHERFUCKING FILM EVER.

(I’d dig Forest Whitaker, though).

Another one! This is even dumber than Miami Vice, because the entire appeal of Magnum way back when was Tom Selleck. Remove him, and you’d have to, because he hasn’t had any screen presence since Quigly Down Under, and you’ve got a generic cop show set in Hawaii. Who would pay to see that?

And didn’t that Dukes of Hazzard abomination bomb? And Bewitched? Why the hell are studios still looking to make this garbage?

I would like to see Tom Selleck return as the character. He is only 61.

Nah, only Matthew McConaughey can pull off the slacker with a moustache thing. There was always something a little sad about Magnum that would become overwhelming if the title character was over sixty.

Magnum WAS an overwhelmingly sad character. What would make you think he would change?

Dukes didn’t bomb. It didn’t do as well as hoped either (ie likely no franchise) but it will turn a profit.

Bewitched did bomb though.

George Clooney, with his Brother Where Art Thou 'stache, might pull off Magnum.

A couple people have mentioned that Magnum was a “sad” character. Would you please expand on this?

McConaughey is a good call. What about Will Ferrell or Vince Vaughn. If he was smaller, The Rock would be an interesting choice.

can you smell what magnum’s smoking?

No…what is overwhelmingly sad is your misunderstanding of all things Magnumian.

Magnum is Odysseus, not Willy Loman. The lost hero searching for home, not some sad sack never able to close the big deal.

What prevents Magnum from being a tragedy is that he does return home and we always knew he would. Come on, didn’t you see the series ending? He regains his maturity, finds his lost daughter and rejoins the Navy. I don’t remember, but I think he may have also remarried his long dead wife and discovered the cure for gingivitis.

It’s simple, man trying to become an adult at 40 is sad. Man still trying to become an adult at 60 is tragic.

You are either insane or a genius of the highest order. There can be no middle ground on this.

Now you’re just insane.

The Rock definitely can pull off the personality of the character, but I’ve seen pictures of him where he’s grown a goatee and, well, he’d need a prosthetic mustache for sure. I’m not sure even then it would look good on him.

I actually like The Rock as Magnum more than McConaughey. It could be awesome.

The problem is that it could also blow donkeys.

I’d see it if it was Sam Rockwell as Magnum.

The story line for the Universal Pictures film sees Magnum, with the help of his former military pals, searching for a missing buddy.

See? maybe he could save this from being exactly like every other retarded remake that wasn’t Dawn of the Dead.

But see that was tragic. He spent so long trying to escape his past, instead of finally forging a new life, he goes back, to relive it. Surrendering to repeat his past mistakes over again.

Except for the fact that the Dawn of the Dead remake was retarded also.

I vote for Andy Serkis in a blue body suit with ping-pong balls taped all over it. No CGI, mind you --just Andy in the suit.
