The WSJ are taking much deserved flack for publishing an op ed piece on how Dr. Jill Biden shouldn’t use her title. Idiot who wrote it is an 83 year old former university professor who has written other heinous things in the past, so I don’t really fault him for writing the piece. It’s in his nature. But for the WSJ to give him a platform? Fuck that shit.

My wife, a female PhD who never uses her title, will be joining the rebuttal movement by reclaiming her title publicly for awhile.

While I’m sure there are plenty of sexists out there, in this particular case, it’s worth noting that there has long been a notion among the uneducated members of the right wing (people like Limbaugh pushed this idea first, i believe) that PhD’s aren’t “real” doctors.

This idea isn’t limited only to female doctors, but is a broader rejection of the idea that education itself is worthy of respect.

All of which “technically…not a doctor” criticism is backwards, in that physicians became known as “Doctors” because of the degree, so they actually took the term out of the general use by the rest of us, not the other way around.
