This argument if yours should go into the cancel culture thread as an example of bad cancel culture claims. Criticism is criticism. It isn’t restraint.

Lol then my criticism of thread copping is fine too!
Of course it is. It’s not prohibited, it’s just wrong.

No, suggesting that Fox.ferro is arguing in bad faith is what’s wrong.
I mean it’s also possible he’s arguing earnestly for very vile beliefs!
A+ would chortle again.
I have no idea how it’s possible to read the last few pages of this thread and come to any other conclusion than that they’re arguing in bad faith. Honestly, I’ve been sitting here wondering if the account’s been hacked, it’s just such transparently circular, disingenuous nonsense.
Edit: Pronouns corrected.

It’s because these news media orgs have their heads shoved so far up their asses they see it all as political gamesmanship instead of actually attempting to destroy our democratic way of life. And they’ll continue to think that right up until it happens and then be shocked and dismayed as they’re rounded up for being enemies of the people. Despite platforming people who literally call them that.

Yea it’s really a problem of the James Carville / Mary Matalim generation, where all the public on both sides are rubes and it’s all a big cyclical game in between genial dinners off the record in DC. They’re just extremely slow to grok the existential difference here. They’re also run by people who don’t actually support the ‘democratic’ process and see it just as an income stream to be husbanded, and to be honest, kinda like low taxes and no regulations as much as the braying ‘phant.
There’s also an element of acquiescence and fear. Media is terrified of reprisals by the GOP if/ when they take power… so they basically enable the GOP to take power. Facebook has more or less openly aligned itself with the GOP in order to curry their favor. You clearly see in Big Tech a willingness to acquiesce to non-democratic govt demands whenever their access to markets is threatened, so it’s not new. It never occurred to me except literally right now, but enabling if the rise of populism by traditional media kind of is in a sense Roko’s Basilisk in real life, that the fear they will be punished by a populist revolutionary government for not supporting it convinced them to support the rise of populism (or at least try as hard as possible to not be seen as opposing it ideologically).
I hate this post so much.
You’re not wrong, and I hate it.
Man, that is grim. I think you are probably exaggerating, but like Adam, I fear you may not be.

The Republicans will win because the media is so addicted to conflict generation and bothsiderism that it can’t do it’s job.
Americans are stupid, and the media’s behavior is a major contributor.

But they’ll be totally shocked when suddenly Congress decides they’re the enemy again and should be killed.
Send more money to save us!
It’s in the media’s interests to play the two parties against each other, in multiple ways. They would prefer if control of the govt switches between parties often.
100% This.
There is a shitheel running for the House of Representatives here whose campaign commercials are like a highlight video of GOP propaganda set to ominous music. He promises to:
- End welfare for illegal immigrants
- Ban the teaching of Critical Race Theory in our public schools
- Ban mask and vaccine mandates
- etc. etc.
And the idiots eat it up. They don’t understand that illegal aliens already can’t receive welfare, medicare or a host of other benefits. They don’t understand that CRT is not taught in any public school currently. And we all know so very well that they don’t understand that mask/vaccine mandates wouldn’t even be a thing if these same idiots would have just voluntarily worn a mask and got a shot to protect themselves and others in the first place.
It’s a cycle of idiocy. The idiot candidates broadcast their idiot messages and the idiot media gives them “balanced” coverage so that the idiot public sees their idiot messages as equal to those coming from legitimate sources, therefore the idiot voters elect the idiot candidates and the cycle continues. The only way to break it is if the media grows a fucking spine and starts pointing out how ridiculous and wrong a lot of this messaging is, but that would require them to in effect choose a side, even if that side is the side of democracy and the good of the people. It’s easier to simply amplify the messaging, rake in the cash, and then act surprised when the idiots come after you once they are in power.
Sorry for the rant, just really pissed off at the media in general lately.

Would you like a berth on the USS FTNYT? We’ve got plenty of room, and Thursdays are Bingo nights.
Can I get a cabin with a view please?
Media just begging for war, every day.
