They probably did back then as well, you just didn’t talk about it.

FFS, not this bothsidesism again. Democrats are giving up on compromise and bipartisanship not because they’re brainwashed, but because Republicans have repeatedly demonstrated that they have zero interest in good-faith engagement.

What you’re saying is like claiming that Charlie Brown is just as bad as Lucy for giving up on trying to kick the football.

FFS not this inability to read the full paragraph and extrapolate context again. Let’s examine the full quote in context.

I’m not saying people who vote Democrat are brainwashed and that’s why they’ve given up on bipartisanship and compromise. I am saying that as a response to the fact that Republican voters have been so thoroughly brainwashed by the GOP media into believing anyone not voting GOP is “the enemy”, and the GOP reinforcing that belief at every turn, Democrats are now also in the mindset that you either vote with the party or you are the enemy. You don’t have to look any further than this very thread to see prime examples of this mindset.

I then go on to present my own situation as an example and mention how I (and other Deomcratic voters) now feel that the GOP is attacking the very foundations of democracy and how dangerous that is. That’s far from “bothsidesism”. The blame for where we are now lies squarely with the GOP, their actions and their media propaganda over the past 30+ years.

It is funny you should mention Charlie Brown, Lucy and the football, as in another thread discussing this same topic I posted something to the effect that it is time Democrats, knowing the GOP will always pull the football away, stop trying to kick the football and maybe aim their kick at Lucy (the GOP) instead.

did you mean to reply to me?

Sorry, my bad. I think I hit reply on one of your posts by mistake when creating that one and it must not have wiped it out completely when I posted. Post was meant to reply to Zylon only, and explain my previous position a little more clearly. My apologies for any confusion.

I’ll intentionally reply to you, @Banzai! <3

CNN keeps delivering.

I was surprised to see the WaPo Twitter bickering from a week ago pilloried by Maher on HBO. I agree with much of what he says on the topic, but also feel a bit sorry for the girl now getting blasted by a much bigger microphone - after getting fired.

(CNN was hardly alone in their gleeful reporting of course. The NYT et al all played along.)

Rep. Karen Bass has widened her lead to more than 6 percentage points over developer Rick Caruso in the Los Angeles mayor’s race, according to results released Friday by the county Registrar-Recorder’s office Bass has 42.9% to Caruso’s 36.3%, with a vote margin of more than 40,000, the results show

The recall of the SF DA was a comment on his philosophy but he had also rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Plus SF is a mess.

Wasn’t sure where to put this. I like him. RIP.

The linked response sums it up. We could add the NYT and Atlantic articles treating ‘cancel culture’ as the existential threat of the time, or the media’s breathless reporting of a single source claiming to refute Hutchinson’s 1/6 testimony over the steering wheel anecdote (instead of you know reporting the evidence for seditious conspiracy). If (and as is looking increasingly likely, when) the country falls into autocracy the 4th estate will share much of the blame.

Opinion: The Far Right and Far Left Agree on One Thing: Women Don’t Count

That’s a really good headline.

Jeeeesus. I had to double check that wasn’t the New York Times because it’d be so very on-brand.

FYI, if you don’t want to click through to figure it all out. Scott Adams posted a series of crazy-ass tweets about his stepson becoming an addict and dying and how the “ONLY” (as he repeatedly stresses) two options for a parent with a “troubled” son are to either wait for them to kill other people and themselves, or kill the kid yourself.

“If one more person hallucinates to me about some ‘program’ where teens are kidnapped and ‘fixed’ and returned to their happy parents, I might explode. No such thing exists. You have two options. Only two. No help is coming. Only death and suffering.”

What I can’t figure out is why the LA Times, or any big media outlet for that matter, that isn’t FOX or OAN, continues to signal boost Scott Adams.

Just when you think Adams couldn’t get crazier.

McSweeney’s, once again being far too accurate to qualify as satire. Apparently this is from a few years ago but honestly, it’s pretty timeless.
