Now I have to watch that show.
It looks its age (very early CGI - done with the Video Toaster!), and the first and last seasons are (sometimes very!) uneven for different reasons, but I think it holds up pretty well in spite of that.
As usual, the media gives old white Republicans way more deference than anyone else would get. According to CNN’s headline writer, “Former deputy national security adviser declines to show for impeachment inquiry deposition Monday.”
“Declines” implies that this was totally optional. Which it wasn’t - he was subpoenaed:
President Donald Trump’s former deputy national security adviser Charles Kupperman defied a congressional subpoena Monday, failing to appear for a closed-door deposition before House impeachment investigators and throwing a new hurdle into Democrats’ plans to quickly gather evidence in their inquiry.
But hey, everyone knows that for Republicans the law is only a suggestion.
Honestly, I don’t thing his lawyer is serving him very well here. The claim that he is ‘constitutionally immune’ to subpoena is, I think, a novel one advanced by the White House, and one which is not likely to prevail. His lawyer claims he really wants to testify, but he is stuck because the government has ordered him not to. The thing is, he and he alone is accountable for failing to comply with the subpoena, and any consequence of that failure is going to fall squarely on him, not on the White House. If in fact he really does want to testify, he ought to show up. It’s in his own best interest.
Lot of shitty hot takes today about booing the president.
Without looking I expect its “respect the office, not the man” which is absolute nonsense because the title and office isn’t worth shit anymore. Chief Turd and Supreme Joke. I say that for someone for who “Prime Minister” is now synonymous with deceitful, lying, racist, sexist, corrupt clown.

If POTUS wants to raise the national discourse he should lead by example. But he sets the tone, calling members of Congress “total scum” and saying “he likes soldiers that don’t get captured” and belittles everyone around him.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Yup, he degrades the office.
One example: WaPo sees Trump being booed and immediately concludes … Democrats in disarray!
‘Lock him up’ chant ignites a debate among Democrats: Give Trump his own medicine, or stick to the high road?
It’s possible that somewhere some newswriter wrote an analysis piece about the booing that concluded that what it means is that Trump is unpopular … but probably only in the alternate timeline where newspapers send reporters out every few weeks to talk to people in diners about why they still support the Democrats.

If they wanna talk to me all they have to do is send Ana Cabrera out. I’ll meet her at a diner for some hot coffee.

It’s really no different than the home fans booing their local sports team, after the team raped a bunch of women, is responsible for various crimes against humanity, encouraged violence and avoided solutions for mass shootings, etc.

Well done! Also would have accepted most other pro sports teams.

Man oh man, that is quite the thing.
And now I am reading this, which is downright sobering.
Drew Magary is my favorite writer there.
Heh, not sure what this is all about.

I don’t know who that guy is, but Jake Gyllenhaal is playing him in the movie.
