Make my browser appear to Youtube as if I'm in Sweden

Back in the mid-90s I spent a year in Norway. During that time I came to like the music of a Swedish band, Bo Kaspers Orkester. They have their videos on YouTube, but they are restricted-view by country location. I guess you can’t watch them unless you are in Sweden. Here’s the site:

How can I get my browser (Firefox or Safari – I’m on a Mac) to think that I’m in Sweden so that I can watch these videos?

It’s not the browser that you need to change, it’s your IP address, and the only way to do that is to go through a proxy. Unfortunately open proxies like that come and go on an extremely fast basis, so hunting one down can be problematic. Start searching for things like “ip proxy sweden” and hope you get lucky, I guess.

I’m not in Sweden and I can watch the videos. Well, all but the one on the main page: “We are unable to show you the original featured video for this channel due to age or location restrictions.”

The rest of them seem to work just fine.

Really? Hrm. I’m in DC… What about the ones here?

Non of them play for me. I get the “This video is not available in your country” error for them all.

Some of them play for me, others don’t and give me the ‘not available in your country’ message. E.g., this one works, but this one does not.

Couldn’t one just change the local YouTube version?

If not everything is blocked for you Americans, it’s because geolocation doesn’t know your IP-range. You can probably get to a lot of interesting sites. I used to have a Swedish VPS which looked like it was in the US to iFilm and Hulu.

I tried that. It doesn’t work.

Have you tried using keepvid to download the .flv directly?
