Mario Kart DS vs. Tony Hawk DS

I can’t decide! They both look so good. I know everyone seems to think Mario Kart is awesome, and I’ve played it a little bit and it’s good, but i haven’t seen any discussion of Tony Hawk around these parts. Anyone played it? Which should I get?

I’d toss in a vote for Sonic Rush as well, that is if you have a hankering to play the best Sonic game in over a decade. It’s stolen me away from MK shockingly enough.

I’d like to hear Tony Hawk impressions too though. I’ve not bought one of those since my dormroom addiction of THPS1-2 so long ago.

I wanted to buy both, but I’ve been to Fry’s 3 days in a row and they haven’t had Tony Hawk in stock. Bummer, because I want to get it for the new release sale price, which often only lasts a day or two. Heck, with Mario Kart it was only on sale for a few hours.

I’d be very interested in hearing impressions of Tony Hawk, though. Portable THPS with free multiplayer through WiFi? That sounds awesome.

I’ll be getting Sonic Rush for Christmas, along with whatever of these two I decide not to get now.

If I had to guess, you’ll be more likely to find opponents online in Mario Kart DS around Christmas time than you will for Tony Hawk around that time. Therefore, if you plan to play online now, I’d go with Tony Hawk so that you don’t miss out on whatever online play materializes and you aren’t searching for opponents with absolutely no luck in a month and a half.

Good point, Dave. However, after sitting down for ten straight vs. computer courses, I think I’m going with MK.

That’s funny, the one in Garland TX had THSK8 but not MKDS. Screw 'em.

Mario Kart ROX! I played the hell out of it tonight and last night and I totally didn’t intend to. I just love Mario Circuit 1 from SNES. That’s such a classic track. Same goes for Choco Island 2 SNES. Moo Moo Farm N64 0wnz j00 also. God damn it’s an awesome piece of software. So simple and yet so deep with strategy when you’re in a good four-player game. I had one tonight that was very evenly matched. Got totally smoked in the first race but came back to win the next three and take the overall crown. It was just plain awesome.

So you can’t go wrong with MKDS.

My record right now is 18 wins 12 losses online.

I hooked my DS up to my Nintendo.com ID too. You get some extra stat stuff on the Nintendo wi-fi pages if you do that. It’s cool.
