Red is harder than current live raid, including additional boss abilities that aren’t yet in. Green will be easier.
Okay, Gambit rocks. He alone is getting me back into MH. I’m going with a range heavy build adding Street Sweep, Savate Expert and Rajin Cajun from the other trees.
I unlocked him in the past week but haven’t even given him a quick spin. And with Star Lord coming out in a few days I don’t know if I’ll get to Gambit anytime soon. So sell me on him… what’s so compelling about him?
Well, for me, I love Gambit’s fluidity. He just feels good to play. A lot of characters get old eventually, but he has some powers that never get old no matter how many times I use them. He also has a ton of diversity in viable builds. You can play him pure melee, pure range (*sort of…you pretty much want Street Sweep in any build, and it is technically a melee power, but feels like a ranged one), or, my personal preference, hybrid. Bouncing in and out of melee range, dropping house of cards, swinging your staff around, giant purple explosions all over the screen…good times.
I’ve actually spent fairly little time with Gambit at 60. These last ten levels of cosmic prestige are going to take a while, but I’m really looking forward to getting back there.
What Misguided said. I’m too low level to understand how powerful Gambit is, but he’s so smooth, his powers are varied and gorgeous, and it seems like there are a lot of different ways to play him. Some heroes just “feel” right – and Gambit is one of them.
It was even better when the hitch at the end of Bo vault was fixed and you didn’t have to roll out of it, but then they broke it again. At any rate, other characters that also have a “smooth” feel to me include Spidey and Surfer, and to a certain extent, Human Torch.
I’ve jumped around too much to develop a good feel for some of the new characters, but I don’t think I’d consider Surfer as being “smooth” - and I’ll fully admit it’s probably because I’m playing him in some horrible way. I feel like I cast a couple of abilities and then I’m shooting the default attack for 5 seconds.
Right now I have been feeling like I need Odin Marks (for blessings) so much that I’m cycling through all of my toons doing legendary quests. As a result, I don’t play any single character too much (and when I do it’s either Nightcrawler or Squirrel Girl). So while I’m “leveling” Cyclops, Mr. Fantastic, Psylocke, Hawkeye, Iron Man, and Surfer, I don’t play any of them for more than say 10 minutes in a row. So a lot of the time I’m thinking “ok, so what do I hit to kill stuff?” - granted it’s not that hard to kill stuff, especially in Midtown, but when I go into an instance I have been seeing some issues. Like last night when I used Surfer to kill Kingpin. That fight is always painful.
I guess I need to slow down, smell the roses, and accept that the game isn’t going anywhere, and just have some fun with it. Seems strange to say that but I guess it’s easy for me to get caught up in a self-induced grind for stuff.
Anyone else looking forward to Star Lord and Rocket’s revamp? I have been reading a little of what was going on on the Test Center and it’s always good to have some shiny new toys to play with.
For Surfer I use the ranged build I linked a few pages ago, so his basic attack is a 1 pointer I rarely use. Most of the time I’m laying down his DOT (the subspace rift thing) and then engaging in some combination of deconstruct/reconstruct, death from below, electromagnetic flux. When there’s a boss or lots of bads (or I just feel like it) then the signature gets dropped in a good spot after the rift is placed.
I’m looking forward to Star Lord based on what I’ve seen, although some people on stream yesterday were commenting that his element gun is sadly not worth it (in terms of an endgame build). They reckon the ammo types need to stick, rather than lasting however many seconds they last. I guess we’ll see how his build(s) shakes out over the coming weeks. I shall be spending points in the usual hap-hazard fashion whilst levelling him. I’m also really looking forward to the Rocket rework as I’ve been saving playing him until that appears. The Thanos Buster mech looks awesome!
This game has really taken over my play time the past few days. Had a blast last night. Finished up Madripoor then the whole next section to boot(took down Kingpin). I even managed to take down Green Goblin all my myself which probably isn’t that big a deal but damn it just felt epic chasing each other through the streets, throwing cars at him etc. I do kinda feel bad for car and property owners in there though, blowing up all their stuff is just too much fun.
So far I’ve only been playing through the story. Between missions I see it list all of the different daily objectives. They really don’t do a great job of explaining those or any of the different mission things you can do. Should I just ignore those until I’ve finished up the story?
Also, does stash space ever go on sale? My one tab is getting pretty full already with just crafting materials and various buff items. I have to agree with some sentiments I read ages ago earlier in the thread but they have really made a game where I don’t think i’ll mind spending some cash. As I get closer to 175 splinters I’m already looking forward to seeing what hero I get next!
From the MH forums: “The Marvel Heroes 2015 servers will be coming down at 6AM PDT for Game Update 1.1 featuring Star-Lord.” I think that will include the Rocket rework too. Looking forward to that…my Rocket is 45 and these changes will be a good excuse to get him the rest of the way to 60.
You’ve got two major non-story things going on: the shared quests (you get three of them each day) and Legendary Quests (they show up after your character hits level 20). Both are good sources of extra XP, especially the LQs, and both provide Odin Marks which you’ll want to have later on to get legendary items and blessed artifacts. When I started playing, I made it all the way through the story once (except Loki) before I started doing LQs, but you can start any time. It’s easy to outlevel the story bits when doing shared quests and LQ, but there’s nothing stopping you from going back to get the story parts you missed. I do it all the time to pick up story mode rewards that I find helpful.
Not that I know of. Stash space is definitely my big reason for spending real cash in this game. I’m about to buy some more, actually. I recommend getting one crafting tab to store all your runes and some elements (since the crafting tabs are cheaper). The hero-specific tabs aren’t really worth it early on, better to get the generic ones that can hold any item, but once you get a few heroes and have lots of items for each the hero-specific ones get more appealing. If you’re going to spend any money on a hero, get the pack that gives you costumes and the hero-specific tab…those do occasionally go on sale, and IMHO are a pretty decent deal.
Hero tabs are great for rings, insignias, Urus and any hero (and the specific hero’s) Uniques, but, yeah, much less flexible. Costume cores can also be stored in crafting tabs.
I started playing at the beginning of the year, and I don’t think there has been a stash sale since then, but they have occurred at some point.
Some of the hero bundles are rather cheap and worth it even if you have the hero already (in which case you get an ultimate upgrade token)
Stash pages is how Gazillion makes all their money from the game!
Here’s a few tips for helping with storage space
- unbound rings can go in any hero’s tabs. For example, I stash (get it!) purple rings in Invisible Woman’s tab, Cosmic rings in Ghost Rider’s tab, etc.
- unbound Urus can go in any hero’s tabs. I have a tab where I stick level 50 ones and a tab I use for level 25 ones.
- unbound insignias can go into any hero’s tab but only if the hero can potentially use it.
I ended up with 1 general tab for ‘all hero’ uniques, 1 tab for specific hero uniques for heroes I don’t own, 2 tabs for artifacts (I try not to keep more than 2 of any specific artifact. If I get a new one where I have 2 already, I sell/donate the worst one), 1 for misc. junk. I’m thinking about getting one more tab though, as they are all pretty full now. 2 tabs for crafting mats (1 for runes, 1 for cores), and all the individual hero tabs.

Looks like Steam tripped over its own dick on this update. No patch on Steam yet.
Woo, I didn’t know about these unbound things going into the hero-specific tabs. Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, something’s hosed. I had to restart Steam to get it to recognize there was an update. It downloaded and updated the game, but the client still says my version is out of date.
There are some issues with the Steam patch. I read you first download a 200 MB patch and then if you exit and restart Steam you’ll start the real patch (which I heard is on the order of 2 GB).
I hope that works or they get it fixed up by tonight, I have a new addiction that needs feeding! How much are the crafting storage tabs? That’s whats taking up most of my space at this point. As for the crafting mats, is it a good idea to keep some of each level on hand, or should I just do the combines to make the higher level ones?
There’s a post saying that the initial download is the first step, as you said, but that the main patch isn’t up yet for Steam.
The initial download (~200 MB) is the first step in correcting this issue - I’ll update you when the patch itself is available for you.
Crafting tabs are 350Gs I think.
As I leveled my first guy I kept a lot of crafting mats, but now I only keep 10 of each of the Pure elements (so that’s 4 slots). The upside is very low storage requirements. The downside is that whenever I want to add an affix to a costume, I spend 5 minutes breaking down stuff. It’s easy to get the pure element drops in MM with a max level hero so I don’t think you need to keep lower level ones unless you have the room.
No patch yet on Steam, but the notes are up. Apparently those Eyes of Demonfire are used to buy recipes that let you upgrade the Item Grade on your items…slightly better stats, basically.
Edit: And the patch is up for Steam too. And it be large, expect much download time.
