In about 2 hours today I got my Storm from 5 to 28 using Midtown and some XP boosts. I wanted to get her Synergy, her ultimate (I have 2 tokens using space) and get a bunch of points ready for whenever her level 52 review hits over the summer.

Last night I thought the game was broken. I’ve gotten so spoiled with the loot-boosts that only having 1 - 3 items drop from a boss kill seemed…wrong. So wrong that I logged a bug. Turns out I wasn’t the only one. Lots of folks thinking loot is busted, but in truth it just went back to how it was supposed to be.
Going to start saving my RIF/SIF boosts for bonus-loot weekends instead of keeping them up at all times. Having 300%+ RIF seems a waste outside of bonus days.
They provide so many boosts I no longer worry about wasting them.
It’s quite the cold bucket of water when you get an unbuffed boss drop. :)
Edit: Oh yeah, in the 5 minutes the server was up (down from 8pm until probably 10pm+ on a friday night - boooo) I opened the random box from that link and got Dr Strange as a new hero, which was nice! I was really expecting an ultimate token as I’m over the tipping point where random boxes are no longer worth it.
Finished the weekend with 42 Omega points. I should probably look into actually allocating some soon. I also managed to get to 706 splinters, which is nice. And I’ve nearly run out of buff potions - I’ve got enough to pop a whole bunch when Silver Surfer releases and then just a few odd ones left.
After looking over the Omega tree, I decided I’d just put all my points into the XP buff nodes for now. More Omega points that way, and when they remove the “beta” tag we’re supposed to get a respec that will let me move them somewhere else if I want.
Yeah, I was contemplating that.

I’ve been logging in once a day for about an hour to run legendary quests and the daily rewards. I really like the dailies except for the X-Def one; it’s very random whether you get any of the defense tokens at all during a run, so it’s really annoying when you complete a whole run and get nothing. So I just ignore that one and do the others. I wish Man-Ape would show up a little less on the terminals daily since it takes so long to complete, but that’s a minor quibble.
They’ve started handing out Birthday Cake Slices every day on login, plus drops all over the place. You have to collect 365 to get something special. Gonna take me a while, since you only get 10 per day on login. They drop fairly often, though. Also there’s a code to get 10 extra: B1RTHDAY
I’ve collected enough Odin Marks to pimp out Black Widow with a Golden Bow of Apollo and some artifact blessings. The Bow is at rank 2 at the moment (600 ranged damage rating and 10% attack speed), so the really good stuff is still to come (10% chance of 6000 damage explosion on hit, 600 crit rating, 10% chance of 200000 damage over 5 sec DoT on hit). She can clear little stuff like nobody’s business with Anti-Personnel Grenades plus Rolling Grenades, but it can take a while to take out bosses. Coup de Grace only goes so far. I went with a couple of Blessing of Odin, since that gives me better boss damage as well as keeping spirit up against little stuff. Still have to choose my other two blessings.
Both Natasha and Storm are capable of running the easier terminals on Cosmic level now, which I attribute mostly to gear upgrades. I’m sure that my familiarity with how all the boss encounters work plays a part, too. My two level 60 melee characters, Wolverine and Thing, aren’t at nearly the same level. Mostly that’s because I just don’t like the melee playstyle nearly as much as the ranged-with-big-AoE. In Wolvie’s case, I think I probably need to do some build-browsing and a respec, because he just doesn’t deal damage fast enough at all. Crazy burst with his signature power, but horrible DPS while it’s recharging.
I’m also leveling up Ms Marvel, and she’s a blast to play. Built her as ranged with Photonic Blast as my basic, Photonic Wave for AoE, and Crashdown Strike whenever it’s available. Kicks ass on damn near everything, and very survivable with all the defense bonuses from her passives. I have Cosmic Haymaker too, but I find myself not using it all that much since it eats spirit and doesn’t get bonuses from the energy/ranged damage rating that’s on much of my gear. Bosses mostly go down with a couple cycles of her signature, Radiant Cascade, and the same attack cycle as everything else. Looking forward to getting her to 60. Thinking about buying her a Cosmic Control Rod for her legendary slot.
getting so many cake pieces it’s pretty awesome. Sucks that so many people are afk’ing to get free cake though.
Yup, they were going to run the event all week, but now I think they are going to shut it down, then run it again next weekend, to fix the afk nonsense in Lower Asgard. I haven’t been on today, but was getting over 9 slices per minute yesterday. The mine cart fights in lower Asgard are also good.
My favorite hero of the moment is a summoner-build Squirrel Girl. She is crazy fun.
Kind of sucks that those of us who played normally got so much less cake. I’m just under half the way through earning a second cake and I played way too much over the weekend.
I’ve got 700+ Odin marks and I’ve been really enjoying my Colossus recently (he’s nearly at level 55), so I’m going to buy my first proper Legendary tonight - Excalibur. Red terminal Doom & Kurse are nice and easy at the moment - I mostly just stand there kicking ass. Man Ape requries some dashing around to let the health regen a few times but he’s otherwise straight forward enough. I tried Man Ape with my 52 Thor and… wow, so much dying.
I’ve also got 820+ splinters but I’m saving those to probably buy the Beta Ray Bill team-up this week.
So what specifically is going on in Asgard that makes the cake drops so much better? Is it just farming those infinite spawning lieutenant battles or something else?

That offer’s all done now. I passed it onto a friend who has just started playing (he got Luke Cage) but by the time I got home to try it myself, it was shut. The takeaway from this: don’t help friends! :) I mean, what am I supposed to do with just 20 heroes?!
I know, right? I now have Scarlet Witch, Moon Knight, Gambit, and Rocket Raccoon all sitting around at level 1 waiting for me to get tired of blowing shit up with Black Widow, Ms Marvel, and Storm.
Yes, but I think the real problem was people afk farming at the fountains, standing there doing nothing but picking up cake every 15-20 minutes.
I wish I could pause my boosts while waiting for cake to be turned back on
Silver Surfer has been approved for public consumption by Marvel so it’s due on test today and, barring any issues they can’t resolve fast enough, should be live on friday. Huzzah! Slightly wary: Marvel got them to change the FX on the beam powers from that lovely blue to something described as “silver”. Hopefully it still looks good.
Doomsaw made a teaser post on the forums about Sunspot (New Mutants/X-Force/current Avenger). As he’s Brazillian (World Cup tie in, obviously), I’m assuming that means he’s probably an unannounced team-up releasing this friday (alongside team-up Beta Ray Bill and playable Silver Surfer). I guess we’ll see.
