Wow! That’s a really useful summary, thanks.

Both Colossus and Human Torch (who actually has some survivability for a glass cannon) look good for your purposes.

DDB, you forgot Gambit under hybrids.

I’ve always enjoyed dungeon runs (think WoW style dungeons) and was hoping terminals would feel like that. (they didn’t at all for me)

I’ve always hated raids, this didn’t change with Marvel. Raids are too unforgiving in both requirements and skill and tend to bring out the elitest asshole in everyone. I don’t need help bringing mine out and with everyone’s showing I’m not as special, so I avoid raiding ;P

Mr Fantastic is out. I…really don’t care. Never been much of a fan of the FF in general and Stretchy in particular. I’m sure we’ll see the usual glut of them in the next week or two, though.

More importantly, there’s a 100% boost to XP/RIF/SIF this weekend.

New code: STRETCH for an SIF boost.

I bought the 6 pack so I have Mr FF but he was the only part of the pack I had absolutely no interest in. He’s got nice animations but so far I’m kind of flailing around with his power choices.

Is there any kind of timeline for adding Mac support, I want to play with my kids.

Didn’t realize this until I logged into today, but it appears login rewards are also live now. The number of days goes way high, well past a year, so I assume the count doesn’t reset if you miss a day. Sort of a cross between veteran rewards and daily login rewards.

You can get the Mac client now. It’s in open beta. Haven’t tried it yet as my Mac is my travel machine and I’ve been at home.

I’ve used the Mac client, it’s been stable enough for me. I have an almost 3 year old Macbook Pro, so I have the graphics way down, but it’s still a workable option.

Correct - it only counts upwards and it just counts days you log in, irrespective of whether they’re consecutive or not. Also, I think I read a dev post saying there are rewards between the milestone ones you can currently see after the first 8 or so days. They just don’t show up on the UI yet. Unless I dreamt that post…

Mr. Fantastic seems kind of broken right now. I got him to 30 but I’m not touching him again until they tune his powers. I tried a green Kurse at level 28 or so and I died 7 or 8 times - at least 6 of which were against Kurse himself. I don’t think I’ve played another character that squishy & lacking in damage-dealing at that level.

Yep, Doomsaw said there would be some sort of reward every 2 days iirc.

A lot of people are complaining about Mr. F. Haven’t played him yet, because I was working on cosmic prestige over the weekend, but he certainly looks great.

What you said is interesting, though. I would argue that doing green Kurse, sub level 30, dying a few times is probably to be expected. That’s the hardest terminal by a mile, easily equivalent to half or more of the red terminals. There a few, if any, strong artifacts in that level range. Do have a costume core & affixes yet?

Well that was perhaps not the best example but I was dying in every terminal I tried and I don’t think I got past wave 2 or 3 in holo-sim. I know what you mean but I was definitely having a much worse survivability/damage experience than I’ve had with any of the other 12 heroes I’ve taken to 30 or beyond. Maybe going through the story until 30 is a better approach with him, I don’t know. My “build” maxed out anything that helped defence though.

I didn’t bother sticking any artifacts on him (none dropped either) or costume affixes/cores (don’t cores only start dropping at 30 anyway?). I didn’t want to waste the resources at that point and you can usually bumble along without that stuff up until that point (level 30). Usually…

Mr. Fantastic is very strong but you have to build him correctly:

Throw the Graviton Emitter to clump dudes, Super Stomp the dudes, Inflate, and then use Outwit to reset your cooldowns. Repeat.

Once you have 3 stacks of Outwit going (30% extra damage), use Spectacular Spheroid and smash fools. Then use Outwit and smash fools again.

Reed is really bad if you use his Plasticity tree. Which of course is the coolest looking and most logical tree to use. Good job Gazillion.

I’ve updated my list to reflect this btw.

That’s what I figured. I more or less do the same thing these days. In fact, I like to use Magneto or Kurse to get an early glimpse of what cosmics might end up feeling like.

For what it’s worth, certain heroes are waaaay better in holo-sim than others. There are also some waves that are ridiculously overtuned at the moment. Hell, if I can kill 5 sentinels during the invasion wave, I consider that an accomplishment most of the time. And the helicopter wave with madame Hydra? The elites take forever to kill, etc

Since we’ve got some new players coming in, Here’s some notes on difficult bosses in the game:

Kingpin: Kingpin is tough because he comes early in many character’s careers and introduces 3 hard targets to fight at once. Kingpin is not too hard on his own. His real nasty trick is to summon 2 friends to help him out: Electra and Bullseye. Both these jokers have decent ranged attacks and so every non-tank character that gets in this fight has the “fun” of kiting these clowns around a pretty small, annoying combat area trying to kill Kingpin in between getting nailed. Oh and also other Maggia gangsters show up too. Yuck. If you’re playing a lower-leveled area/ranged character be prepared to do a lot of running and a lot of dying. If you’re playing a melee character it tends to be a lot easier: get in there, smack Kingpin around, and try not to get dogpiled.

Magneto: The first “real” difficulty spike for most players of any type of character. Magneto is not exceptionally tough but he’s got a lot of ways to prevent you from engaging him directly and hurting you real bad. His most deadly attack is his Magneto Christ Superstar (MCS) (the floating T-Pose with the big purple globe centered on him), which lasts up to eight seconds and buzzsaws off player health at a truly alarming rate. The only real counter for MCS is to stay the heck away from him. He also can freeze players in place by tossing junk at them, which does good damage on it’s own and sets them up for MCS. There’s a reason that I put one point in every character’s CC breaker, and it’s this guy - use your CC breaker to break out of his junk prison so you don’t die! Also, landing a hit on Magneto with any kind of attack with a stun, freeze, knockdown, knock up, etc. during his MCS phase will end MCS early.

Kurse: A mean mammajamma for every kind of player. Kurse has massive burst damage with his no-telegraph leap up/ground pound, summons black clouds that hurt players that stay close to him, hits pretty hard, and on top of it all occasionally summons a dark elf retinue that’s plenty cable of dogpiling the unwary and laying the hurt with their own special attacks (although - thank goodness - they telegraph them). Not much to say here - make sure you can take a good hit before you fight this dude. He one-shots people that don’t pay attention to defense and if you want to go toe-to-toe with him you had better be able to take A LOT of punishment.

Other notes:

Red/Cosmic Terminals: these are mostly gear and build checks and are a lot tougher than regular Green terminals. If you can’t do these, don’t feel bad. It has a lot to do with pumping your character’s effective skills/combos to 20 and getting good gear. Having a good, properly-chosen Legendary is almost required for decent clear times (read: not freakin’ dying every 30 seconds) on Cosmic terminals.

X-Defense: Keep in mind that in X-Defense, the glowing Blue/Yellow guys are NOT affected by any kind of crowd control. That means they don’t get stunned, knocked down, charmed, confused, moved around, etc. Just bomb on them until they die.

Midtown: Always group up in Midtown. Always. All of your quests will go faster and there’s no experience sharing, so there’s no point in not doing it. Nobody talks or expects anything out of you in Midtown groups - it’s purely a mechanical benefit.

Hope this is useful to new players.

Also:
Madame Hydra: her invincibility shield is powered by yellow minions that air-drop in around her. Kill those, she becomes vulnerable.
X-Defense: the blue minions are the ones that attack students, so you’ll want to prioritize those during the generic enemy waves. During boss waves you’re -usually- better off burning the bosses down so that the wave will end, but if you’re hurting bad enough you might want to play defense while everyone else boss kills.

Good info, DDB. Probably would have died a lot less my first time through these had I read this back then.

Couple of additional notes that might also be useful:

With Kingpin, if you find you’re having trouble going straight after him while Electra and Bullseye kick you around, you can kill them first. It’s slower, and I don’t think you get any extra reward, but it beats dying repeatedly. Hit Kingpin a few times, then avoid hitting him while you take out Electra. Then go back to Kingpin until Bullseye shows up, then take him out before focusing on Kingpin. It’s comparatively easy to avoid the big fat guy, as long as you watch out for his charge attack.

Grouping in Midtown is a good idea as DDB says, and don’t be afraid to be the guy to start the group if no one invites you. Open your social panel and invite everyone on the Nearby tab…especially easy to do when a boss is up and everyone is around the area anyway. Note that you’ll need to be in the same difficulty level as anyone you invite, so try to mostly follow the difficulty levels: Normal for 1-25, Heroic 26-40, Superheroic 41+.

Oh oh oh, I totally forgot to mention this here: I finally got my Colossus slot 2! After several months (though most of those pre-60) and 30+ unique drops & crafts (at least 3 times I’ve been through the “exchange 4 of the same for one you can use” crafting), I finally got it to drop on monday night from a yellow shared quest chest! Now to actually get some level 60 uniques for my Hulk…

I’ve got a definite focus problem. I’ve now got 4 60s, which is good (Colossus, Surfer, Hulk, Storm) but I didn’t even have 1 when the 2015 patch hit and I’ve been playing intermittently for months. I’ve got 1 in the 50s, 3 in the 40s, 5 in the 30s and 10 sub-10. Next up for me is Wolverine (who I took from the mid 30s to level 48 or 49 over past couple of days) and probably Thor as he’s sat at 52 and got those buffs in the mini-patch. I really want to go back to Cap, who is sat at level 9, but so many distractions!

Grats on getting Kitty’s shirt, finally.

Got Gambit from 36 to 48 (cosmic) over the weekend, and Hawkeye from 41-50 (who knew it could be so excruciating to play a character that kills things so fast?)

Been tinkering with my surfer build to make him more fun to play (emf = effective but boring).

With Star-Lord due to hit test next week, I might just look and see if there are any energy synergies that might be good for him that I don’t have yet.

Curious. I have Deadpool at 33 right now. While I like to group up in MM it seems that he’s just unstoppable solo. I can play for an hour and not die once. Does this change at higher levels?

Im 43 with deadpool and i agree, so easy to play solo and dying rarely happens.
