Medal drops in xdef are no longer random, I don’t think. I honestly wish they’d just make it X waves like Holo-sim
FWIW, The bow is probably her best unique and I’ve seen people complain it is too damned hard to find. Go figure. That item was a winner in the first design-a-unique contest, I believe.
I’ve had the same thing happen before. I think my last 6 unique drops (and 8 of the last 10) for Human Torch are his slot 3, when I am in serious need of an upgraded slot 2.
They may not be random anymore, but getting to wave 10 hasn’t exactly been guaranteed in my recent experience. I suppose I would do better to grind it with one of my 60s than with my current levelling character, though. (Hulk, in this case.) But even then, if I had to run more than like, two consecutive xdefs it would be beyond my interest level.
Well my super hero itch is flaring up again (Dr said there was nothing he could do) and this game has been looking like something I could use to scratch it. Normally I’d just jump back into CoH, but well we know how that went. How is this for jumping into fresh? Is it pretty easy to get going or does it take some pre-research to make sure you get acquainted with things? I’m not really up on all the Marvel heroes, but it sounds like there is plenty of variety for different play styles. As long as I get to mow down legions of mooks I’ll be happy. Also, if this happens to catch my wifes eye as I play, is it easy to group up and play together?
Marvel Heroes is great for mowing down legions of mooks, no question there, but it’s ARPG style (think Diablo) rather than MMORPG style (like CoH was). Super-busy screen, effects flashing everywhere, non-stop action with very little downtime while you’re in combat zones. Very little in terms of content in the sense of storylines; you’ll play the story once, then pretty much ignore it. There’s plenty of mook-mowing to be done in the terminals and Midtown/X-Def once you’re done with the story.
MH is not for those who were into the character customization that CoH offered…every hero is basically the same with a few pre-determined costume variants. The good news on that front is that you’ve got a ton of different options to choose from. DDB posted a great list that gives you an idea of what all is out there. If you were an alt-aholic in CoH (like I was), this is perfect.
Grouping is…good and bad. If two people pick a character each and play them exclusively together, then it works pretty well. But if you get more than a few levels apart, you’re going to have a hard time, since a lot of the content is broken up into five-level tiers: 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, etc. If you happen to be 19 and your buddy is 20, you can’t get into the same shared zones, although you can play story content together. If you get more than about 5 levels apart, even that won’t work well since it’ll either be trivial for one or crazy-hard for the other. Once you both get to level 60 this pretty much resolves itself, as a duo can handle most things the game throws at you outside of the raids.
Thanks for the response. I knew its an ARPG and it’s set characters so I know what I’m getting into there. I guess I was just more concerned whether its going to be a chore to learn or not. Good things to know about grouping up, will have to remember that if the Mrs decides to try it out. Thanks man.
For what it’s worth, I did zero research before I started…just jumped in and blew stuff up. After 30 levels or so, I did go read the forums a bit to see what I could do better, but that was about the extent of the learning curve.
@Shellfishguy, one thing you should know is that the Marvel Heroes community is without a doubt one of the nicest and most helpful communities I’ve ever seen. You don’t see much in the way of exclusion or elitism in people (well, outside of raids, I guess).
MH also has a great F2P design - they make it easy (but not required) to spend cash on the game, and after playing a bit you won’t mind throwing them some cash so they can continue to work on and improve the game.
Definitely worth a try to see if it scratches that superhero-beating the snot out of people itch.
Started out with Colossus and am really enjoying myself so far! Quick question, should I be donating to the crafter and vendor equally or is one more important to level first?
Crafter until he hits level 10-ish, Enchanter until he hits level 10-ish, back to Crafter until maxed at 20, back to Enchanter until maxed at 20, then the other guys. You won’t get much utility out of anyone but the crafter and enchanter.
You guys are all wasting your time by playing before they put the achievements in. I’m just sayin’.

Or we are all getting ahead of you in the “Get all Heroes to level 60” achievement that you just know will exist.
Achievements have been “coming soon” since the game came out. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Played a lot longer than I intended to last night. My colossus is now level 11 and into Madripoor. In the prologue I had some cosmic boots drop, which have been awesome. I’m going to miss my summoned alien buddy when I finally get to the point where I have to replace them. Had a lot of fun helping take down Venom and Rhino in the docks. This game is definitely a winner so far in my book. So when codes for boosts etc come up, you have to enter those into the website, not in game correct?
Yep. Log into marvelheroes.com and then click profile at the top of the page. From there click on redeem key on the left. Enter the code and that gets you the goodies. Tough to find the first time but easy after that.
Oooh one more question! Are loot drops personal or shared? So when Rhino goes down and the sweet loot pops out, is the loot that I see just mine or am I hoovering up everything thus denying other people items?
Yes, in your website Profile area, use “Redeem Key”.
One caveat: if you drop an item from your inventory onto the ground, other players can then see and pick up that item. Otherwise it’s all per player. And mostly character specific, for that matter.

Raids are only snobbish and elite because of the dumb enrage timers, which just function as a DPS check.
Right now it’s ok, but Lord almighty when they actually bring out Red Raids (and even MORE extreme DPS check) get ready for a real 1% mentality. I’m a hardcore Min/Maxer and I’m not dedicated enough for that group.
I thought the idea was that current raids are “red” equivalent and they’re planning on bringing out “green” versions that are easier?
