Is it too early to preorder?

Just got ME2 for ten bucks from steam. It’s gotta be worth that, right?

Has a chance to stun/overheat, not a guarantee. Go ahead and do whatever you like though, see how well it serves you in the Collector base.

I’m fairly confident that hong lives in the Collector base.

Well, I’m not gonna spec to disruptor just for that, when going against collectors.

However, Zaeed is pretty good for those missions still, on account of his ability to use the Incisor (best weapon for NPCs) and the passive +50% damage boost.

So I picked this back up again last night, 360 version. Had beaten the game once on Normal, as a Solider imported from ME1.

Started a new game on Hardcore as an Infiltrator, and its really not that fun because I am dying too much and the load times blow.

I am getting wasted on the first plot mission after you meet the Illusive Man. What am I doing wrong? I get to cover ASAP, but the enemies seem to never miss and there are a lot of encounters where its easy to get flanked if you dont waste the first round of attackers immediately.

I was pretty good at the first ME, never finished an Insanity run but I came pretty close before ME2 hit.

I’ve only gotten into the first mission as well, also as an Infiltrator but on Normal, and I’ve been killed almost instantly each time I enter the first big room with bad guys. Very frustrating.

Your experience on the Infiltrator mirrors my own. I started over as a different class immediately. :)

With the infiltrator, tactical cloak = invisibility = invincibility (almost). If you’re getting swarmed, activate cloak and get the hell out of there.

General tactical tips:

  • Don’t stay out of cover for extended periods. Line up your shot, then pop up and fire a burst. Hosing down a target is not recommended, unlike in ME1.

  • Use the pause feature to help aiming if you’re having trouble. Bring up the power menu, then rotate the camera so that the crosshairs are lined up on a bad guy. Release the menu, and shoot.

  • Pay attention to your teammates’ powers. Miranda’s overload and Jacob’s pull are nifty ways to shut down mechs. This is particularly important on hardcore and above, because Shepard alone typically won’t have all the necessary tools for stripping defenses.

  • While some attacks work better against some defenses, all damaging powers will still cause damage against all types of defenses. So even if a mech still has its yellow armour bar up, Miranda’s overload will do damage (it just won’t cause bonus damage or proc side-effects).

  • Newgame+ is kinda borked in ME2. All the enemies are scaled to your high level, but you lose the mods you picked up in your previous playthrough, and that makes a big difference to the difficulty. If you chose this option on your second game and were unaware of this, consider restarting.

Not to nitpick but Pull would be useless on Insanity because every enemy has some form of second layer. And yes it will do a tiny bit of damage if you use it on an enemy with shield/barrier/armor but not enough to matter.

Pull followed by Warp = death to enemy with no risk to you.

Risk of taking a useless squad member who has Pull on an Insanity run. And while I’m not going to test it I imagine that for the brunt of enemies that wouldn’t do any more significant damage than just using Warp by itself would do.

Sorry, yes, that’s possibly true, I don’t know off the top of my head what other skills pull users have. My statement is true, though doesn’t necessarily reflect the most effective approach.

You can melee every enemy to death except the final boss. That doesn’t mean you should.

Not on Insanity it doesn’t, unless you know a magical way to bypass shields/barriers/armor. Pull is practically useless on Insanity.

Tardshep?

And if you’ve got a submachine gun (or any weapon) that can burn through shields/armor/barriers, you’re going to cut their health down even faster with it, making Pull completely pointless. The only biotic powers of use in Insanity on a regular basis are Warp and Reave.

It is someone’s shepard picking up the Locust smg in the kasumi mission.

You won’t have the ammo to do that.
