What happens if I don’t import a character and start a new one? Do I get a generated level 30 guy? Do I start at level 1? Does the game scale like Oblivion?
After the intro sequence on Earth (covered in the demo), you start at level 3, with 5 or 6 points to spend on skills. To be clear: Shephard is basically starting from scratch again. In the demo sequence, there’s a passing reference to you having gotten soft after being released from duty (covered in ME2’s “Arrival” DLC), but I hope that isn’t meant to explain the near-total loss of skills. It sounds like importing a save is the way to go. I imagine that there are saved games floating around the Web that you can just download and plug in, if you don’t have one of your own available. For example.
I thought that’s been pretty clear in a broad manner. The better your Galactic readiness, the better you are prepared for the end battle against the reapers. I suspect that it will impact who lives/dies, what happens to certain planets/races, etc. Just like your loyalty missions and Normandy upgrades in ME2 determined who lived/died in the last mission.

Which is complete bullshit, if it’s only affected by MP - I don’t play that, neither does my GF. Why should I have to pay MS dollars to be able to play my singleplayer game?
In ME2 on the Collector ship you had a choice of choosing certain weapons or weapon skills. For example an Infiltrator could choose the Widow sniper rifle or assault rifle training and the Soldier could pick up the Revenant assault rifle. If you didn’t get either of those, will you have the opportunity to pick them up at some point in ME3? Anyone know?
Oh, I know how it’s supposed to work. And if I’m not mistaken, Bioware insists that it’s not a prerequisite to getting any sort of “good ending”. At least that was the last I heard. I’m just not convinced that, uh, well…I don’t see how…I mean, I thought…well, I suppose we’ll have to have more talk of this in spoiler threads.

But the MP isn’t required. “Galactic Readiness” is also affected by how much side stuff you do in single player, so if you don’t care about MP you can get by fine without it.
That happens whether you import a save or not. It also happens whether you’re a dude or a chick. It looks kind of weird to have Admiral Anderson telling a female Shepherd that she “looks a little soft” and then patting the flat stomach on her immaculately narrow waist.
Oh, Bioware.

Not quite, Brad. Galaxy at War is a bit fat display where you’re standing after every mission that shows the progress you’ve made in multiplayer. I don’t think anything you do in single player has an effect on it. However, it’s a multiplier to the assets you’ve assembled in single player. I think your “Galactic Readiness” is that adjusted value.
My point is that I’m not sure a) how it affects the end of the game, and b) how you can then supposedly make the most of your game without playing multiplayer.

The theory was, or at least Bioware said, there were other methods/systems to increase the “Galactic readiness” level in the single player part. They didn’t specify what, but people supposed side quests or maybe some equivalent to planet scanning or whatever. They said to calm people, to show the multiplayer wasn’t required to have the full Mass Effect experience in single player.
But i trust your word more, you have played the game.
From what I’ve read it is a prerequisite to getting a “good ending”. The concern I read that people were having is that they needed the MP benefits to do that but Bioware has said you don’t need MP to maximize your War Readiness, it can be done via SP alone, MP is just another means of maximizing it.

Reviews are live! I’ve just spotted Jim Rossignol’s and Pentadact’s. Sounds like it’s a good game or something.
From what I’ve read there are a number of mission/sidequests that from which you obtain war assets to add to your Galactic Readiness pool. In addition, as you explore you can scan and find other war assets. All of these go into your war readiness pool and impact that number. I even saw a gameplay video where this was done. A planet was scanned and war asset was found.

Man, I’d really like to thank Origins for not using my Amazon download files and then deleting them. I was really looking forward to downloading 10 GBs again. THANKS ORIGIN YOU’RE THE GREATEST THING EVER!
That’s dumb - you couldn’t launch the installer from the Amazon files?
Infiltrator is out for iOS and based on the level that I played it’s pretty good.
Anyone know where do I go to get the From Ahes DLC? I Don’t see a link on the website.
That seems like a big difficulty swing. Starting at level 30 vs. level 3 ought to make Insanity easier at least. Maybe it auto-balances.
That reminds me, I don’t recall choosing between Action, RPG, and Story after I imported my save. Am I remembering it wrong? I have it set to Full Conversations in the options.
Hmmm. Regarding the War Assets mechanic:
In singleplayer, everything you do accumulates ‘war assets’. When you finish the game, how many of these you have determines how good an ending you get: how well the final fight goes for your side. Success in co-op multiplies your war assets, up to twice their normal value. That means that if you only play singleplayer, or want to finish singleplayer first, you’ll have to grind the living hell out of its most tedious fetch quests to get the best ending.
