You guys are such optimists. They’re gonna retcon that whole shitty ending and just say that Shepherd defeated the Reaper invasion.

Is there really? Well I won’t play my old PC version then.

What retcon? That was one of the three end game options.

Surely they can just 3D print another Commander Shepard anyway. Problem solved, heh.

I would agree with that. A great series regardless of the way people thought of the ending. Well worth the time to play, which isn’t a lot compared to the last title.

The original Mass Effect remains one of the best game universes I’ve explored, and finally the best space opera In gaming.
The later ones had flaws, but also improvements. The companions in ME2 are iconic and memorable for a reason. Though I like the story and game overall less, because it was more uneven narratively, the high points are just so high.
@jpinard it has my strong recommendation. Just know going in that the space opera world building care of the first game is somewhat jettisoned for sci fi action. So don’t expect a satisfying resolution to the main story. It is the side story’s and character companion bits that really excel though. Things like everything about the genophage are incredible.

I missed the Mass Effect boat but the remasters might give me an opportunity to check them out. I tried firing up the first one a few years back but as you would expect it feels quite dated (because it is).

This is the strength of the series, without a doubt. The relationships you build and what happens with them are so vital in this game. The DLC in the third game involving the characters is required playing.
There’s insane world building going on in these games too. Hardly anything gets handwaved away (insert ME3 ending joke, canned laughter) but has been thought through and documented in the Codex - it’s fun just reading through that thing. How faster-than-light travel works, how biotics work and how humans were modified to use them, even the dietary habits of turians; all that’s in there.
Yeah, I remember spending the first hour in the original Mass Effect just reading the codex. And it’s the only time I’ve ever done that in a game where I didn’t mind, and I was doing it because I enjoyed it.
I thought it would be the same with Dragon Age, but I started reading the first few codex entries and I couldn’t stand it. I successfully ignored the codex in Origins for the rest of that game.

Cool thanks! I’ll adjust my focus to recognize that.

Heartily recommend the series, @jpinard though I also recommend the up texture mod.
The unified installer for all 3 games is here: https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect3/mods/363/?tab=files
Downloading all the required installer assets might take a while via the torrents and NexusMods downloads (took me 3 hours) so I could share my copy directly with you if you want. It’s 128GB.
FWIW, ME1 is one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. Never finished the second or started the third, but the first one… definitely give that a go

Mass Effect is top 3 map music, with FTL and Rome Total War 1 filling out other 2 spots. So evocative.
It’s such a great game. I played the first one 4 or 5 times, at least 2 directly back to back. It ended and I immediately fired it up again. Such fantastic universe and NPC companions. 2 was my persona low point. I did play 3, even to the end, but honestly, there is nothing I could tell you about it, was totally forgettable to me. Looking forward for the remaster to give them another go from start to finish. Andromeda is also very stand alone and you can dive in alas it misses the enormous world building that came before it and assumes you know who is who re Alien species.
