I have some sort of sniper rifle that shoots grenades. Kind of hilarious to scope and land a grenade on a dime from long range.
I think game designers who implement low inventory “limits” probably enjoyed Everquest, and brought the darkness with them from that game.
My inventory capacity is at 150 too, and that’s after an upgrade. I wonder if they bumped up base capacity to 100, with each upgrade adding 50?
The base is indeed 100 which was a good change.
At 50 even with almost no items other than equipped stuff, i just have 2-5 slots open, which was REALLY dumb and not fun at all.
I’m happy for the changes to inventory and skipped travel cut scenes but it makes me question whether they did any play testing at all. These would have been caught FAST.
One also thing - I’ve never been able to research weapons or armor above level V. But I find stuff in containers above that. Don’t know why you can’t research beyond level 5, but it’s stupid.
You can research beyond level 5. Once you research to level 5 it opens up a new tier of upgrades. To be clear, they are treated as a new research item. You will research Super Power Armor to rank 5 and then it will open up a new item, “Super Power Armor Advanced” which then goes from 1-5.
Well - hell. They should really be a lot more forthcoming w/ that sort of information.
Well that is weird, because it seems armor changes names within the I-V ranking. Like the Initiative armor I’ve been using, went to Initiative Recon armor and then at level V became Spearpoint. It’s a little tough to track.

I have the Prima Guide (because why not?) and it’s explained on page 444:
Armor names vary within a set. For instances, the first Heleus helmet is named “Heleus Defender Helmet I,” the third rank is “Heleus Champion Helmet III,” and the fifth is “Heleus Champion Helmet V.” Name difference is accompanied with slightly altered aesthetics.
Also note:
The armor system is a bit different from conventional armor systems found in other games. Armor does not inherently improve defense. Instead, each set provides unique bonuses catering to certain strengths and playstyles.
Armor of higher rank usually boosts that the stat bonuses that the lower rank already gave. I don’t think that if you pick all amor belonging to a single set that you get some kind of bonus; as far as I can tell, you can mix and match as you like.

But mix and matching armour sets would be:

Agreed. The sets are all so drastically different in design, your just look like a clown.
You can set it to use the same colors for everything. Also the Heleus chest armor apparently includes the legs and arms, no separate versions available.

Aside from changing the colours, some of the armour also looks rather similar at different levels, or at least similar enough that it doesn’t clash. I combined Hyperguardian chest armour with Pathfinder stuff and it looked fine. (The Maverick and Remnant armour doesn’t combine well with other pieces, though.)
Oh hey, been meaning to ask - did you all spot the Plants vs Zombies Easter egg on the Tempest? I wouldn’t exactly call it well hidden, but I just noticed it last night.
Yeah the zombie reaper in the bunk?
I saw a peashooter and zombie scientist, but maybe!

Outraged: Spoilers, man.
Kidding, I just wanted an excuse to Elcor something.
Just finished what I would call the first big story beat (the rescue) and am really loving the game. It has really opened up and is a lot of fun. But I have run across a rather frustrating bug. I’ve crafted a couple really good weapons with some augments but I am ready to upgrade. Unfortunately, you are supposed to be able deconstruct them and get your augments back. However, the game doesn’t give me that option on the screen, so there is no way of getting my augments back :) And since you can’t craft more than one copy of an augment, I’ll have to rely upon stumbling across them in a loot crate. Very frustrating since I’ve lost my sticky grenade firing assault rifle :(
Make sure you take the armor/weapon off first. In some cases this means having another piece of armor/weapon that you equip just so you can break down your old stuff (which is indeed kind of dumb UI design).
In other news, i’ve been using a build based around Dhann shotgun with bio converter, turbocharge and a low CD tech skill with health regen on tech. It seems like any build following this basic ability set is going to be INSANELY more powerful than anything else i’ve ever heard of. You just do so much damage that anything basically melts.
The only downside is i use charge for mobility and survival and it only works half the time. As anyone who uses charge knows, enemies become immune to charge at random giving an invalid target message EVERY time you try to target them, even if you are standing next to them. If this surprises you at a bad time, you can die on insanity. Especially since i’ve started to buy in to the theory that certain major enemy attacks do a percentage of your health and ignore defenses.
