I have to admit this news has hit me harder than I thought it would.
I’m contemplating if I should leave the game now instead of finishing it.
Here’s my reasoning:
- right now I loved the boss fights, I loved the 2 Kett bases so far, I loved the exploration on both Voeld and Eos.
- I’m not tied especially deeply into any kind of story that might or might not be continued in a future sequel
- I’d be going out on the highest note possible. If there’s one thing I gleaned from this thread, it’s that there’s repetition of the elements I loved so far ahead of me. That can me a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on how it’s handled.
But if I bow out now, I think of this game as a 9/10, and I’m not particularly tied to any story loose end that I want to see resolved.
If they ever do decide to make a sequel, I can always come back to the game a year or two down the road, and suddenly the architect fights will be new to me again, etc. So I’ll get the best of the stuff I love again, with some time in between to make it fresh.
You don’t know how I long I’ve waited for a Pathfinder to say that.

I can’t even get into the game now just sits at loading without getting to main menu.
Obviously YMMV, but i don’t think there are any loose ends really. It is of course hard to talk without spoiling things, but the end basically wraps up the main story line. It does heavily hint at DLC/Sequel stuff though. There are also a number of things that are not explained fully.
If you’ve seen Batman begins, the end of batman begins reminds me heavily of the end of this game. You finish the current plot and then the game is like “hey, you might have won these fights but these is these other fights over there to look at later.”
If you’re enjoying the game at this point, i don’t think you will be disappointed in the ending. I wasn’t, even if i don’t personally feel it picks up to the level of the endings of the previous games.
Disappointing, but they are clearly trying to appeal to a younger audience with andromeda so the clothing style does kind of fit.
Patch is somewhat meh. About half of it is multiplayer changes in a primarily single player game.
Some of the changes are just freaking dumb too. radically increasing the damage on the dhan shotgun? This is the gun a lot of the power builds use and they just gave it some insane ~20% damage increase.
I’m glad they realized that most powers didn’t do enough damage to be useful compared to guns or the few useful powers, but i don’t think they went far enough from skimming the changes. They also increased the damage of a lot of guns as well.
The increase to weapon damage would probably encourage me play a turbocharge/tech heal/dhan shotgun build now, if i was still playing.
Changes to Annihilation probably limit its use to very specific builds (such as charge/Annihilation/lance which plays in melee range and doesnt have cooldowns).
Really glad they lowered the armor on Krogan Berserker. These guys are the most annoying enemy ever. They take FOREVER to kill but are basically zero threat.

The Improved Shield Generators for Nomad side mission resolved itself from my log. Task: Watchers is still bugged.
I couldn’t get into the game, even to the main menu even after a Repair. Had to redownload the whole 50GB game to get it working again. Took only 45min on my 150Mbps connection though.
I’ve had two terrifying crashes so far - both with the same symptoms. Once just a few hours into playing it (previous patch/last week) and then tonight.
I’m playing along, suddenly both my displays go dark, my PC is still on but some fan is revving up to max (cpu? gpu? not sure) and nothing responds (even though mouse/keyboard/PC all lit up, no display). I think maybe a video driver issue? I hard power the PC off, turn it back on, it’s all good.
Since the first crash I keep gpu-z up and running, temps never break 68-72 degrees, and everything seems nominal. I do have it set to Custom/max ultra settings (side note: why do games have an ultra setting if there are some settings that can yet further be set higher - especially when one such setting actually can go to Ultra?!)
I have a 1080 GTX FTW from EVGA that I just got last summer, no problems with other games, so I don’t suspect the card is at fault.
This happen to anyone else? Only twice isn’t a huge deal, but if there is a chance ME can harm my hardware, I’m probably going to bail.

Ever since applying Win10 Creator’s Update I get freezing (with sound still going on) at transition scenes (landing, lifting off, elevator, cinematic like Mass Effect logo transitioning to Ark Hyperion) randomly. I have to Windows-key or alt-tab out and end the game from taskbar AND then open Task Manager and find + end the MEA process.
I find it happens less in Borderless Fullscreen than in Fullscreen but this continues to happen with 1.05 and 1.06 and for last two NVIDIA drivers. Using 980 Ti here.

I’ve had the full-blast fan thing happen once or twice briefly.
The lack of consistency in having High/Ultra for different settings in graphic options for games really bothers me as well.

Also, they tarted up my FemRyder to look like a painted clown (Suvi?) by making her lips/lipstick pinker/brighter.
I am also noticing they moved the sub-titles to the top, but now they run into the mining UI (on the left) and the objective UI (on the right) which is baffling. The patch notes say they made subtitles more readable, but I don’t see why moving them to the top does that (especially since now several words are hidden behind UI elements).

It happens to me often enough. Can’t alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del or anything. It just freezes, and after a few minutes it unfreezes itself.
I have a Radeon with the latest stable drivers so I don’t think it is a graphics card issue. But I don’t think it is going to kill the hardware. If I record the session, it will still go on recording, so it just looks like the game has turn the whole system unresponsive.

the quest tracker and inventory change (items added etc.) appear not at the edge of my screen interface but inside an invisible 4:3 boundary now with the FOV maxed.

I don’t know if Sara is dolled up. All the human characters, including multiplayer characters, have shiny shiny hair now (shampoo and conditioner in the future must be really good), and the lighting is just different.

Well, that ain’t good.
I think EA is figuring out just how hard Mac Walters and Casey Hudson crashed that franchise into a wall.
EDIT: quote from EA’s Andrew Wilson from upthread:
And so we’re very happy with BioWare. BioWare has continued to support Mass Effect, and the new team is doing some amazing things, and you’ll hear more about that in the months to come.
I guess this is the “more about that” we were promised.

Take a look at the image. She has pink lipgloss now and they made her cheeks narrower.
I don’t know that I’d call that ‘dolled up.’ Default hair style still doesn’t fit, tho. At least for me.

And I’ve checked INSIDE the game. As far as I can tell, the model and texture are the same. Sara is still pretty down to earth. The lighting in the skill allocation menu is different. Like the multiplayer characters. So hair is now shiny. There is lip gloss. It is everyone, not just Sara.
It is like that person you meet in dark bar. You bring that person home and in different lighting that person looks a bit different. Of course there is a possibility that the person you meet in the bar and in your home are two different but similar looking persons, but it could be one and the same and the lighting makes the difference.
And beer goggles.
