So Desslock - you’re saying if we had the Olympics in Saudi Arabia we’re supposed to overlook the terrible abuse of women there? And not fly flags of “women empowered” in our home country to recognize we do not overlook the ills of that nation, even for the spectacle of sport? Or say, when the Olympics were held in Nazi Germany?
Olympics are not just a “bring the world together” idea anymore. For some countries like China it’s all about domination of a brain-washed society to push patriotic fervor, and for some Western nations, it’s more about a gigantic paycheck and sponsorship deals vs. sporting idealism. So I’m just saying, it’s not at all what you imagine as there are nuances to it all, but you just picked one you don’t like as a Conservative. To be fair to the rainbow flag ordeal, you should have also complained about the insane level of commercialism on everything. People are basically walking billboards there and if I am correct, that is NOT what the founders of the Olympics had in mind. If they don’t perform naked, then there should be no logos, no matter how small, no branding on equipment etc.
Personally I don’t care, but I’m just saying… to be fair…
I learned I’m a socialist liberal a month or so ago for saying maybe you shouldn’t shoot your own kid when they come home late at night and that if you hear an intruder the correct thing to do is gather everyone together, call the cops and hold the fort.
This makes me a communist. Just like that flaming liberal Mossad Ayoob.
I can understand the confusion, which I contributed to with my sloppy initial reply - it was not just the use of the term, it was also the context in which it was used - dehumanizing someone with a different view by divesting him/her of individuality and they saying “they” are bereft of human qualities or attributes (empathy).
That’s the definition of dehumanizing, and it’s constantly used these days to try to marginalize opponents and diminish viewpoints (or just make them go away, and de-legitimize them) when unable to effectively refute them on merits. Certainly a hell of a lot more common than calling people monkeys, notwithstanding the craven use of identity politics these days.
It really disgusts me how he keeps lying about how great his tenure was and how he fixed Toronto when those talking points have been debunked multiple times. If you say it enough people are prone to believe it?
So REI, as a Canadian, what did you feel watching the Jimmy Kimmel interview with Ford?
I think wishing death on him is crazy… but he should drop out of politics immediately. Unfortunately his idiot self and his idiot supporters make that an unlikely proposition.
