Memoir '44 on VASSAL

Just thought I’d mention Memoir44 has been ported to Vassal. I didn’t see any posts about it here when I searched, but this forum originally turned me on to M44 so I’m sure someone here might enjoy it.

Haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but it looks quite faithful.

Hey, this looks like it could make playing the game take less time than setting up the game!

I love Memoir 44, though find some of the scenarios included with it to be lopsided. But hey, that’s the great thing about this game: you can make yer own scenarios easily.

WW2 was a bit lopsided at points too. ;)

On the official site they have lots of great resources, including a breakdown of scenario win ratios based on submitted AARs. Here’s the listing for the standard scenarios:

01 Pegasus Bridge - Allies/Axis: 509/208 - 718 AARs
02 Sainte Mère-Eglise - Allies/Axis: 273/150 - 424 AARs
03 Sword Beach - Allies/Axis: 220/247 - 467 AARs
04 Pointe-du-Hoc - Allies/Axis: 153/62 - 215 AARs
05 Omaha Beach - Allies/Axis: 52/252 - 305 AARs
06 Mont Mouchet - Allies/Axis: 100/98 - 199 AARs
07 Vassieux, Vercors - Allies/Axis: 44/72 - 117 AARs
08 Operation Cobra - Allies/Axis: 81/88 - 170 AARs
09 Operation Lüttich - Allies/Axis: 86/87 - 173 AARs
10 Toulon - Allies/Axis: 72/36 - 108 AARs
11 Liberation of Paris - Allies/Axis: 69/23 - 92 AARs
12 Montélimar - Allies/Axis: 73/54 - 127 AARs
13 Arnhem Bridge - Allies/Axis: 87/14 - 101 AARs
14 Arracourt - Allies/Axis: 77/33 - 110 AARs
15 St Vith, Ardennes - Allies/Axis: 45/41 - 86 AARs
16 Saverne Gap, Vosges - Allies/Axis: 47/46 - 94 AARs

Looking over this list, you can see that Sword Beach, Mont Mouchet, and Lüttich appear to be very even matches.

And while of course WWII was filled with unequal battles, there are other ways to handle victory point awards if you want each scenario to feel more balanced for the players. I personally like the system as it is, because it uses approximate historical victory goals and makes you feel the pressure of the situation if you are playing the weaker side.

Days of Wonder is developing Memoir Online, which I hope is as good as Ticket to Ride Online.
